If the decreasing rows at the end are confusing, try ending the beach bag by crocheting it to your desired length, then cut a tail of a few feet and weave it in and out of the last row of stitches, then pull the tail tight to cinch the bottom. Tie the tail tightly a few times to secure it.

    If I were to reduce the number of beginning stitches to accommodate a thicker yarn, should the number of stitches have to be an even number? Also, would I reduce the number of stitches from 5 to a lower number for the strap? Your bag looks great!

    • @CrochetWithJulie
      @CrochetWithJulie  Год назад +1

      These are great questions! For a thinker yarn, I would reduce everything by 1/3 (that is my general rule). The total number of stitches around the entire bag would probably need to be even, but you can make the initial chain whatever you would like. If it were me, I would start with 33 initial chains, then skip the 1st 2 st and place 1 DC in the next 22 st of the 2nd row (so 9 st between the handles, and 22 st for each handle at the widest points). I hope this helps! You can always adjust these as necessary to get the bag to your desired width and height. Also, keep everything the same and just make a massive beach bag?! Let me know how it goes. I am happy to try to help if this doesn't make sense or work! Happy crocheting!

    • @CrochetWithJulie
      @CrochetWithJulie  Год назад

      I totally understand! So at 2:48, you want to repeat the last row where you skip the 1st st of the row (after the turning CH) and the 2nd to the last st of the row, repeat that row over and over until you make it down to 5 stitches in the row. Each row should decrease 2 stitches. I hope this helps, but if not I can explain it a different way! Happy crocheting and welcome to the crocheting community! It is a lot of fun :)

    • @CrochetWithJulie

      @makaylanorell2502 Год назад

      When my second triangle is at 33 stitches, it is wider at the base but shorter than the first one… I think the increase was too much? But I followed the pattern where it is 2 double crochets in the first and last stitch

    • @CrochetWithJulie
      @CrochetWithJulie  Год назад

      @@makaylanorell2502 is it significantly different? A lot of time this is just due to the stitches being slightly tighter/looser at different parts of the pattern. For the 1st triangle, you should decrease 2 stitches each row, for the 2nd, increase 2 each row, so they should be fairly the same. Of course increasing and decreasing stitches does look slightly different, so if it isn’t a significant difference, I doubt you will notice with the finished product. Do you have the same number of rows for the first and second triangle?

    • @makaylanorell2502
      @makaylanorell2502 Год назад

      No… for the second triangle it is two double crochets in the first stitch and two in the last stitch right? And then chain two at the start of each row. Should I try to only increase by one? My first triangle measured 15 inches from the base to the top…

    • @CrochetWithJulie
      @CrochetWithJulie  Год назад +1

      @@makaylanorell2502 yes that’s correct. I wouldn’t increase by one as that will drastically change them. If the row count is off, aside from the initial starting chain, then it might just be an error in one of the rows on one side.

    I do like this pattern but I feel like you should teach people how to decrease properly. Skipping the stitch makes it look gappy. With other projects, newbies are going to think that this is how you decrease when it’s not and it’ll ruin their projects.

    • @CrochetWithJulie
      @CrochetWithJulie  3 месяца назад

      Decreasing correctly with DC st creates two posts, so it would make the handle uneven and look strange (I did this first when I was doing pattern work). The bag is meant to have gaps in the stitches, so decreasing with skipped stitches isn’t an issue, and I have loads of videos where I use decreasing stitches, as the majority of my patterns don’t use skipped stitches, unless it is intentional for the look of the pattern. If this was “How to crochet for beginners,” I would agree with you, but this is a pattern tutorial and skipping the stitches is necessary to make the bag look good, which is my ultimate goal. If you haven’t seen my other tutorials, you might not know, but I break a lot of traditional crochet rules to make different or fun crochet projects. I appreciate you commenting and I appreciate your advice.
