The first time I heard this was on The Benny Goodman Story. He wrote this for his wife to be. That was their theme song. It almost brings a tear to hear it and see him putting all he has into it and him so aged. Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller were the two that shaped the music of the WW2 era. The rest just played catch-up. There were good bands but those were tops.

A master at work! Because of my mom and an older sister I knew him, Glenn Miller, the Dorseys, etc when I a kid in the early 50's as RnR arrived. Loved it all and still do! Thank you for posting this

Thanks for sharing this classic video. My late grandfather used to play this on his clarinet, it was his favorite song. Seeing and hearing Mr. Goodman play like that reminds me so much of him.
I should have been a younger man in the 1920's through the 1940's. I liked the people better back then, the cars better back then and I really liked the music better back then.

Benny is probably the greatest clarinetist! I started playing Bb tenor saxophone in 1965 and shortly after that I watched the Benny Goodman story with Steve Allen.....I went out and bought a clarinet and have been practicing ever since but cannot match the talent and the performance of Benny Goodman...!

"Benny, Benny, not tha jazz!" I think his music instructor when Benny was a boy leaning away from classical music was wrong. Benny Goodman was still killing them at that age, beautiful!
I believe it was his classical training that made him the great clarinetist that he is/was. The great masters are the periodic chart of all truly beautiful music.

@LalaLoney Dear LalaLoney, Tell your band director, from me, that He can get back to music school and learn more. I was a clarinet player when I was young and now I play the trumpet. I played in a jazz Band when I was 22 and I loved jazz from the first minute I played it. That was 29 years ago.
