A couple old friends and an ex once unanimously vetoed this movie after I selected for movie night. I was already a fan, and I thought these punks would love it. They didn't just eject the DVD 45 minutes in, they basically implied it was worse than a waste of time. They did not laugh at any of the intentional humor, but they more than made up for it by laughing at me. Every 5 minutes they would moan about how awful the music was, the characters were, the story. "You picked THIS? You LIKE *THIS*?" *Old friends. Ex.*
Theyre close minded if they cant get past the image and find the humor, dialogue intriguing. The film is so deep on so many level for me to explain it. Im glad youre not friends with them anymore. I even cut my ties with few of the people in my life. I dont need them.
This movie hit me like a ton of bricks when I saw it 5 years ago. My best friend surprised me with tickets last Friday to see John Cameron Mitchell perform in NYC. To this day, the best gift I've ever received.
CZ Burke Oh I'm so jealous you got to see John Cameron Mitchell in it! I'm going to see it at the Pantages next week with Darren Criss playing Hedwig :)
I actually found this movie very late one night while channel surfing before bed. I watch television without any sound when I go to bed and turn on closed captioning, and imagine my confusion when I landed on this movie. Without sound, I couldn't wrap my head around what was happening, what the hell is the storyline, and what was the deal with that crazy drag queen?!??! Even with all that, the movie drew me in so much I actually sought it out the next day and watched it. This movie to me is one of those rare original masterpieces, and the music is amazing. It's definitely not for everybody, but for the lucky few, it's a joy to watch.
+GodoftheHanged In the future, make sure you read the whole comment and not just the last line. It will save you the heartache of writing a response that is completely opposite of what was said.
I didn't see this until about 7 years ago. Got to watch it with a group of trans girls (how apropos!?!) I had met. (We also watched "Breakfast on Pluto" which was pretty entertaining)(Bummed me out that I couldn't get them to watch "Different for Girls"!). Anyhow...aside from "Wicked Little Town", I also love "Midnight Radio"
I actually have performed the play as Hedwig in Oklahoma City.. had a 6week run 3nights a week and didn't think it would go that well but surprisingly enough we were sold out each night.. Was one hell of show to be in and very liberating as a performer
I saw a production of Hedwig before I saw the movie. This song blew me away. Then when the reprise came at the end, I just ended up sobbing. Just could not believe how beautiful and soulful. I love Hedwig.
I absolutely love all the Biblical and Catholic references in this move. And I love how Hedwig's make-up stained dish rag is a low-key reference to the Shroud of Turin.
What I like about this video besides the awesome song is, every actor / person is so likable in this scene, they all give off a great karma. it's so easy to watch and enjoy.
I happened upon this movie, which I'd never heard of, while channel surfing one late night and somehow managed to get drawn in. Very good movie but this little melody, and Hedwig's performance, are mesmerizing.
This movie and soundtrack inspired me when I was overseas working a tough contract job; my friends and family thousands of miles way. I'm forever grateful to Hedwig and Steven Trask!
I love this film, I've watched it so many times. And this bit is so amazing it made me love the film and got me hooked. I found the soundtrack on a trip to Florida and was so excited to get the CD. How sad am I. I think I know every word! I'm just a ordinary guy from South Yorkshire, just the sort of place Hedwig was playing in. I wish they would make this into a stage show in England.
Give it up for kwan yee lol she was jamin' totally love his little band here ....I love the sound of JCM"s voice. Was a fan when it first came out and still one :D
Such a lovely song. "And if you've got no other choice/You know you can follow my voice/ Through the dark turns and noise/Of this wicked little town" How freaking beautiful is that?
@LivewireRemote What an experience! Congratulations! Yes, I knew about that because they mention it in the documentary I think, but thanks so much for sharing your experience. JCM is very talented, focused and passionate. I love his work!
What is so moving and touches ones soul about Hedwig is deeper than any loss or pain but it's the loss of self and the meaning of path to finding that where you have been is not truly your path and finally breaking down which happens at the end of Hedwig is when he/she recognizes there never was a need to find her soul mate she was already whole
Aw, honey! That was so beautifully written. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'm missing one song, though. I'll upload it as soon as I can. Take good care of yourself.
Yes! I actually have videos of the performance. Check them out! The play was set at the Roxy in Av. Niceto Vega. I don't know about Av. Corrientes. It was last year, maybe there's a new one this year. I'll google it. It was great but nothing compares to JMC in Broadway. Lucky bastard you! I'm happy for you! =D
"Give it up, Kwahng."
This cracks me up every damn time :o)
I think "Kwanghee" is right spell

I agree, lead with the positive. I love your response. It was a joy to watch. Sometimes uncomfortable, yet...
I agree.

Godammit Tommy why couldn't you love the front of her
*heart shatters*
Your comment just broke my heart for Hedwig all over again.
😢
He was too young and inexperienced. They didn’t belong together.
This song has stayed with me. "But then again, aren't we all?"
Elaine S same
allways ;)
And yes, I hope we all are. I know I am.
Hedwig looks so beautiful in this song. John Cameron Mitchell is prettier than I'll ever be.
Judging by your photo I think you give Mr. Mitchell a good run for his high heels...
I also REALLY love the song "Origin of Love".
Your so right there.
That's not true as as transbian I'm offended lol
Me too Honey...me too....
I freakin' love this song!!
Quang Lee everybody!!!
Give up, Quang. -_- lmfao
She stole that scene!

:)
I actually love this film more than Rocky Horror.... Because it has a bit of everything and so well balanced
I absolutely love all the Biblical and Catholic references in this move. And I love how Hedwig's make-up stained dish rag is a low-key reference to the Shroud of Turin.

Same thing happened to me. I enjoyed the songs very much, too :)
This movie and soundtrack inspired me when I was overseas working a tough contract job; my friends and family thousands of miles way. I'm forever grateful to Hedwig and Steven Trask!
The kwahng yi part is one of my favorite parts of this movie it's so awkwardly funny!
There is no movie that equals this.........It still amazes me how much this movie moved me.
This has been my top favorite movie since I first saw it in 2003! The soundtrack is the best too!!!
This movie was fantastic and this song is so lyrically perfect. Perfect flowing song. Love it!

I had to leave to listen to Hedwig, over and over again :)
One of my favorite moments of the movie. He's so beautiful.
aren't we all
One of the best movies ever made. JCM is a genius.
Sook-Yin Lee as Kwang Yi is one of those performances that's less than a minute onscreen yet remains eternally unforgettable.
Lauro Andrea have you seen her in short bus?
I kinda don't want to. Let me just remember her this way....
So excellent. Hedwig is coming to my city next year after waiting for Years to see the show. I scored two orchestra seats for yesterday. I can't wait!
Evan Tapper I'm going next Friday to see it at the Pantages (Hollywood) with Darren Criss as Hedwig!!! I cannot wait! ♡
Love this movie and one of the best soundtracks!
Hedwig's version is the best of all!!!!
Great movie. I love Hedwig and the songs.
A brilliant song and performance.

thank you, ladies and gentlemen. thank you, both of you.
The decision to have all the songs performed in little shops like this was brilliant. My lord, this entire film was so moving.
This was my song to one of my best guy friends who was struggling with severe drug addiction.
one of my top 5 movies of all time :)
Thank you... both of you.
This song is beautiful and can make me cry.
Wow...Hedwig is so beautiful....
Love the song, love the movie and I love this scene! I saw this off-Broadway and it was fantastic. I wish they'd bring it back!

Yes! I'm so happy that you discovered the film, the entire Hedwig's world. If you can, make videos of your playing and share. Blessings and love.
