- This is an overview look at the TCH850 folding rigid handcuffs, in black. They are as expected NIJ certified. These are used by UK police when they need covert handcuff capability. They are concealable in a pocket when folded and the black color helps hide their visual presence in the dark. I like these handcuffs a lot. Same usual great TCH quality.
In the next video I visually compare the sizing between the TCH 840 series (842) and the 850. Surprisingly the 850 handcuffs are further apart than the cuffs on the 840 series.
EDIT: 08/12/2016 (UK date format) I won't be buying any more TCH or any other brand cuffs that are black via oxide/bluing. Rust is ridiculous. I had to clean thick orange rust from the inside skin-contact areas of the cuffs the other week. Even they aren't being used. I do not want high maintenance cuffs. I have since cleaned them up again. Due to the heavy cost, in the future I might buy a non-black version of these but that is low priority.

Any lock pickers out there? The TCH handcuffs are usually pretty easy to pick, with a thinned down wiperblade tool with, a resessed diamond/flag at one end and unmodified at the other. Use the diamond or flag end in the cuffs to lift the internal double locking pin and then, turn the tool round and use the flat unmodified part as a shim - so long as you have smoothed it down enough, this does work. Then use the shim section of your tool to separate and depress the ratchet mechanism holding the teeth inside the cuffs, by pushing it through the cuffs teeth section from the point closest to the lock point. At the same time as pushing through your shim tool, all you need do is, gently click the cuff closed one notch more until your shim slides between the teeth and the ratchet mechanism then, pull back the cuff bar manually to release them. Nothing to these cuffs security really and, you don't even need keys to get out of them. It's about they thought harder about how the secondary pin locks off a set of cuffs.
Love the cuffs
Hi, I'm a collector and are the cuffs really worth £60. It's a big amount for a pair of cuffs, also how bad is the flex when there folded out, it seems quite a lot when you shake the cuffs. Do you know where I could find nickel and black finished 850s with double key way ??? Thanks
They are a bit on the pricey side but they are very nice. They are very rigid when opened. They won't close/fold without using the key in the middle. A certain size of flat head screwdriver can also make them fold but of course would not be able to open the cuffs themselves.
@@SilentButDescriptive thank you I'll keep it in mind ☺️, on police supplies I found a double key way version in black for around £70. Do they do the same but in nickel and black with double key ways? Thanks
@@JohnSmith-fh8qk I personally do not like the twin side versions of their cuffs. I bought the 842 model which is a standard speedcuff but keyholes on both sides. I had to send them directly to TCH to be repaired because the spring wore out. The problem with those are, the "alternate" keyway interacts with the leaf-sprint at a very close angle to the pivot point of the spring, meaning when you use that keyway, you are putting more force on the spring and making it less springy. This is my opinion based on my experience with one pair of cuffs. Actually I did have a chain link version as one of my very early purchases that I sent back. I just did not like it over all. At all. Normal all the way for me. Less to go wrong! I also am not a fan of TCH black, because it needs more maintenance to not rust. So I prefer regular nickel plated steel models or the light-weight models.
@@SilentButDescriptive thanks again for the advice. Brilliant channel 👍. I'll probably just get the classic nickel and black 850s. Thanks again
I got a pair of 850R tch 850 Red they are really good and save space in my pocket I like to arrest my cousin and her boyfriend for fun I am going to use them for the first time on the 30th of march 2019 for the best time they save space the 840R set I have hurt when I want to sit down because they get my hip these fold and do not hurt they save space and are useful I way to hold them grab them with your thumb on the double lock and let them fold out onto your hand you will have the keys facing up and your thumb on the thumb grip easy peezy
I'd love a pair of these... my tch rigid ones are too big ! how much were they?
Too big? These have the same wrist size capacity as the plain old rigid ones. I think I found these cheaper on eBay at about £50 delivered. If you are talking wrist size being not able to go small enough go to police supplies and get the TCH handcuff reducers. I think they cost about £10 and perfectly fit TCH handcuffs (not other brands) and it allows them to fit smaller wrists. I have a video on them somewhere. on my channel.
Silent but Descriptive I ment to big to carry as they cannot fold. I suppose you wouldn't be willing to trade a pair of tch 840s for them would you?
Unfortunately I cannot. I actually have also an order for a brand new pair of 840 at this time. I am waiting to receive it in the next few days. I prefer brand new perfect handcuffs. The only second hand pair I have are a brand new pair of Hiatts speedcuffs I put on the channel a while back that I got from a collector. Other than this all my cuffs are brand new from retailers online.
Silent but Descriptive it's alright. I have 20£ and probably will just save some money for them.
Does the black finish rub off over time?
Absolutely. Once it rubs off, they rust even by them selves if you leave them. The silver ones are fine. But the black ones I will never buy again.

Is it posible to break these handcuffs if you bend them strong?
If fully open, no.
Silent but Descriptive I think yes, because the little piece that makes the handcuff rigid its very thin
Do you have a pair of them? Have you tried to bend them? I am betting no on both counts, hence your initial comment being a question "is it possible". I have tried and they are strong. The only weak point is when you are using the key to disengage them to fold them. If you put force when you are in this state it is possible you could damage them. But when they are fully open, they are secure and do not bend or break. I speak from experience, but guesses.
Silent but Descriptive I have one pair of them broken, I can send you a video.
By the way, I think that the central piece that makes the handcuff be rigid should be longer and more heavy. Do you?
Well of course thicker would be even better. But the damage of this mechanism happens when releasing them to fold. The folding process is where the danger of breakage is. The manual clearly warns users about this. This is what the manual says in all caps *DO NOT USE FORCE TO FOLD THE HANDCUFF* That is crucial. Once the cuffs are fully deployed, the bars are rigidly in side there and won't move. Very little could go wrong. When you use the key to fold them, that is when things can go wrong if you are ham-fisted with them when folding them.
