Rallarvegen - Norway's most beautiful ride? - Indoor Cycling Training

- Rallarvegen is Norway’s most popular bike ride. It is regarded by many to be the most spectacular bike ride in Norway. The route follows the railway and is named after the construction workers building the railway. The total length is 82 km / 51 miles. This ride follows the most popular segment of Rallarvegen (Navvies road), which starts at the train station in the beautifully located town of Flåm. From here you move up the valley along the railway and the river. Along the way, there are many spectacular waterfalls and the scenery is simply jaw-dropping. Two-thirds into the ride, you cross a river and get to a very popular goat farm serving goat’s cheese and sausages. This is a good place to stop and enjoy the local food. If you have a good grip on your bike and strong legs, then you can continue up the notorious Myrdal turns. The Myrdal turns is a set of very steep hairpins. The average gradient of 17.4 percent is just one factor that makes this segment difficult. What is making this climb almost impossible is the surface that consists of loose gravel. So there is a reason most cyclists take the train up and ride down. As you complete the hair-pins, you continue your ride up to your final destination Myrdal train station.

Most cyclists would agree that the ride to Col du Tourmalet is outstanding. But with music, opinions are very mixed. So we have added no music. Instead, we recommend adding your favorite music to the ride. It is quite simple. Mute RUclips and open a browser window. Find a site that offers music (Spotify, RUclips, etc…) and pick the music you like, and enjoy the ride...

How many waterfalls did you count on this ride?
Approx 15. That zig-zag section near the end looked brutal! 🙂
@@christopherthomas3403 It is brutal. Average gradient 17.4 on loose gravel. When asking the bike rental company if one could climb it. The reply was: Everything is possible.....
@@BiketheWorld kudos for making it up there on that surface.
Kind of a funny question since we watched this and were swearing because you just couldnt stop and take a look at their beauty - you just kept on going.... going.... going... like somekind of a machine. It was interesting to see how you just went on and even children and animals had to be aware of your going or there would be an accident. Hm. Nice scenery but filmed with a camera only looking directly ahead and never stopped to see the beautiful details. So there is room for improvement but thanks anyway.
Hey there, I just came across an exciting new project called the freebeat Morph 2-in-1 eBike. It's a game-changer for cycling enthusiasts like us! One of the most outstanding features is that it can be charged indoors, which means you can power it up while enjoying an exhilarating indoor cycling experience. Plus, with its powerful motor and durable tires, I can imagine effortlessly conquering all kinds of terrains, including the stunning Rallarvegen in Norway. I can only imagine how many breathtaking waterfalls there must be along that fantastic ride. Count me in for an adventure with freebeat Morph eBike!
THANK YOU for not adding music!! I have to turn the sound down on other videos. I don't want to hear music, I want to hear nature.
Glad you enjoyed it :-)
i second to that‼️ Love to hear the sounds of nature🤗
Magical! I love that there is no music and I can listen to nature. It just couldn't get any more beautiful!
When we cycled through the goats I had to stop cycling as I was afraid to hit one! That is how realistic your videos are. Thank you!
Magnificient Video!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Glad you liked it :-)
I really enjoyed riding with you. Norway looks beautiful ❤️. I had a knee replacement in June and have been cycling with various RUclipsrs and countries. I really enjoyed your video and the ride with you. Of course I just do my rides 12-15 minute sessions, twice a day, but I was cheering you on! I will do this again! I will be looking for other videos from you.
thank you for the beautiful ride, greetings from Greece
Hi Stravos, thank you for your comment. Glad you enjoyed the ride. Any good rides in Greece we should share?
@@BiketheWorld for Athens for me the best route is from the area of Vouliagmeni to the temple of Poseidon in Sounio where the whole route is next to the sea. also interesting have the mountains of Athens where is Ymittos ,Parnitha and Penteli the ascent and the descent.
Hi Stravos, thank you for sharing your preferred routes. Looks very interesting :-)
This is astonishingly beautiful. It leads me to feel that I was born on the wrong side of the Earth. Thank you!
This is a spectacular ride and so enjoyable. Thanks very much for making the video and sharing for other’s to enjoy! That river looks like it holds some trout…. I’d have to stop and take-out my fly rod along the way 😂
Este es realmente un excelente video. Desde Colombia un saludo para el ciclista!
this is really an excellent video. Greetings from Colombia for the cyclist! Thanks BTW
Many thanks for posting this video. I recently bought a spinning bike to get healthy and loose weight. Well produced videos like this make my workouts much more interesting and enjoyable. My wife and I travelled between Flam and Myrdal on the Flamsbana railway in June 2022, while enjoying a Nordic cruise. It's been lovely to do it by bike and see all the wonderful scenery close up. Norway is such a beautiful country. As others have commented, I also like the natural ambient soundtrack which makes the video much more immersive.
PS - if you're ever back there in Autumn could you do the same video but in reverse, thanks.
Beautiful ride, thanks for making the stationary trainer so much fun.
Glad you enjoyed it!
That was the absolute most beautiful ride/walk I have ever seen. It took me 2 workouts to get it done but I am over 50 and just started exercising again. The 2nd day I would incline treadmill if you were going uphill and I decline and speed my pace on down hill it was fun really. Thank you so much for this beautiful tour
Hi Donella, thank you for sharing your experience. Glad you had fun with the video :-)
Stunning! So nice to hear nature and the cyclist getting a workout. Feels like I'm there❤
Finally!! Beautiful view with real sound!!! Thanks!!!
Glad you like it!
Great bike ride, lovely scenery the endurance off the hills told on my legs, will do it again, thanks from Steve in Greater Manchester, England 👍
Thanks Stephen :-)
I love this video ! ❤️❤️
Thank you for a beautiful ride! A wonderful diversion on my rollers and training bike as I virtually rode with you. Thank you also for the real sounds of the road, the train and the wind. A truly fabulous part of the world.
thank you very much for providing live sound instead of horrible cheesy music like every other bike video. it helps so much with the immersion. well done.
Glad you like it!
You picked a really nice route...beautiful scenery. I put my tablet over the display on my elliptical so the time wouldn't be a distraction & just enjoyed the ride
Expectacular! demasiado lindos los paisajes! mil gracias!.
I watch the way beside mointains, rivers and waterfalls free of noises and smoker motor vehicles (just only the train). Really a pleasure. Of course, one of the most beatifull pieces of Bike the World.
Thank you Gustavo Yes, it is a magical ride. And what we have shared is just a part of Rallarvegen. It is 123 km long...
My God. So beautifull places. Thanks a lot "Bike the World" Team...
На горе к шуму воды добавился шум дыхания )
Красивые места!
Without a doubt, one of the very best virtual rides I've seen. Thanks!
Wow, thanks!
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!! Exactly what I've been looking for. I have to 'ride' indoors in the winter, I LOVE this ride, and how it does not have music to it. I like hearing the water, the changing of gears, the wind in my ears.......... I will check out your app.
You're very welcome! Let us know if you need assistance with the app :-)
Thank you so much for this wonderful ride, stunning!
You make the best video for bike i never seen
Thanks Antonio :-) Really appreciate your positive feedback.
Sadly I live in the U.S. and I'd give anything to live in Norway. Avid bike rider here, riding my bike trainer indoors while watching this and DREAMING.
Most beautiful ride indeed! Been to Flam, it is just like being back there again, thank you BTW!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Did the whole video today. Starting my journey of weight loss. I’ve found your videos to be the best. So far watching your videos I’ve lost 12 pounds! Thank you for these insanely gorgeous videos. You deserve a million+ subscribers.
Hi Billy, thank you for your wonderful comment. Great job on your weight loss. Kudos to you too :-)
@@BiketheWorld thank you brother 🤝
Incredible ride. I love the Norway rides. It makes exercising fun!! Thank you, Bike the World!
Beautiful. Erg mooi. Groeten uit Nederland.
Awesome! Fantastic ride right there! 😎❤
Speechless, utterly stunning. A big THANK YOU to all who made this possible.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for watching :-)
Pairs perfectly with Pink Floyd's The Division Bell. Thanks. Beautiful country!
Just found your channel today. Bravo and thank you! I have not had the pleasure of cycling in Europe yet. And, this first video has inspired to begin thinking of doing so. Your videos are great company while I'm on the stationary bike at my local gym. Keep up the good work!
Thank you for this beautiful ride, from Québec !
Incredible. It's on my to-do list now. Thank you so much 🥰
Glad you liked it :-)
Many thanks for a great video
Glad you liked it
Lovely ride! Thanks for this!
Beautiful!! Amazing ride. Thank you so much for sharing. Worked off my Sunday lunch. But I will have to improve my fitness - I was a bit slower than you, just as I came up the station, as I watched the video, the guard blew his whistle and the train doors closed…
This is really a beautiful ride . I'd like to do it myself.
Thank you for creating these!!
Again riding this road on my home bike.... I love it.
Great 👍
I did not expect a gravelroad. But damn, this is so beautiful to watch 🥰.
Absolutly perfect for my evening "don't get fat" training 😁😇
Came across you channel last week . Love your videos always struggled cycling indoors the scenery gives me something to focus on and ive now feel more motivated 👍🏻 thanks .
Awesome, thank you!
Easily the best virtual ride I have done this year - thank you. (Would love to take that train sometime, too!)
Hi Gary, Glad you enjoyed it. We hope to film the rest of rallarvegen. But that year, we could not go further, due to snow...
@@BiketheWorld Excellent - looking forward to that!

I have been following this video over several days as I do it in 20 to 25 minute sections. Today I was in the last half hour section as you went up, on the swish back path. You are an amazing rider to do that without stopping. I had to wonder whether the people walking their bikes either way had any idea what they were getting into. That is one tough ride for sure. I guess the great view makes up for the hard work. Well done on your part.
Hi Ralph, thank you for you wonderful comment :-)
Hey, just watched your outdoor cycling video and it was fantastic! Really loved the way you captured the essence of cycling in the beautiful outdoors. As an avid ebike user, I recently came across a new crowdfunding project called freebeat Morph 2-in-1 e-Bike that blew me away. One of the standout features is the ability to charge the bike while using it indoors, which is a game-changer! The Morph eBike's brushless 750W motor, 80Nm torque, and top speed of 20mph are truly impressive. Plus, the 80mm front suspension and puncture-resistant tires ensure a smooth ride on any terrain. Can't wait to try it out myself! Keep up the great work and keep us updated on the crowdfunding progress!

Gorgeous, but a tough ride as I tried to simulate (to some degree) that uphill grade. I had to stop after 40 minutes. Aside from the first 5 minutes it was ALL uphill!
Wonderful ride , ! Amazing views! I really worked up a sweat and good heart rate ! That hill climb felt to real where most rides I watch make one feel really out of shape ! My breathing pattern was great! Keep them coming, my first one with you !
Glad you enjoyed it!
You should try not to breathe so loud! 😀 Kidding! Very nice scenery and well done video!
Thank you. When I asked the bike rental guy if it is possible to do the last bit of the ride (the hairpins), he ironically answered "Everything is possible"...
@@BiketheWorld I haven't gotten that far yet since I mostly do short HIIT workouts on the bike, but I look forward to that! Is that the opposite of the climbs and you're stifling screams instead of huffing and puffing? haha Is it possible to occasionally note the altitude at the beginning and end of a climb or something? The camera angle (or something) sort of flattens everything such that it's not that obvious to me when you're climbing (until the heavy breathing). It might inspire us to increase our effort similarly.
@@lorinichols1847 Hi Lori, our app open Road has all the data (altitude, gradient, etc.). You can read more about it here: bikethe.world/
This is the first bike video I have seen from Norway, such a beautiful country and you covered a great route. The video quality is lovely and the ambient audio makes it even better.
I am in Canada where we have lots of lovely vistas, but this seemed outstanding. looks like a lovely country to live in or to at least visit. Now I know why on Monty Python they used to say they were missing (pineing for) the fjords of Norway..
I saw the website you mentione and Im definitely considering a subscription in the near future. I have trouble riding safely outside, so i'm electing to do indoor cycling at the gym, but still want to feel like i'm just cruising and exploring. Thank you!
That is awesome. If you need any assistance to get started, do not hesitate to write our support.
You inspired me to go up a resistance level. Hats off to you. That was a climb.😅
And kudos to you for going up a resistance level :-)
Thanks for doing these they really suck you on making the ride much easier. I would almost say I'm enjoying riding on the trainer LoL. God bless
Thank you for your comment David :-)
This is a wonderful video!
Thank you so much Leslie :-)
Lovely. Thank you.
Thank you too!
Very nice, beautiful!
Thank you! Cheers!
Thankyou for sharing this wonderful video to us. Such a beautiful trail ride & i wish to go there someday. i have few suggestion to improve the quality of the content. Maybe you can invest on a very good camera so that the video upload can be watch with lower quality pixel. Also, maybe you can stop during the ride at certain point of attraction to capture the beautiful surrounding. I really wish to see the several beautiful waterfall during your ride that can be seen from far but cannot see it as you approaching the site. Thankyou also for adding the natural sound in this video. Your earlier video doesnt have any sound. Hope to see more of your ride videos in the future. May God ease your journey & your work capturing the beauty of the Earth & sharing it to viewers.
That was so special I did it twice! how did you avoid all the goats (and children and cyclists)?!
Hi Mikko, Glad you enjoyed it. The wideangle lens makes it look like they were very close. But they were not that close actually.
And cars!!
Thank you for this beautiful video! I loved every bit of it and nearly forgot I was riding a stationary bike. What kind of bike did you ride while shooting this? I'm wondering whether it would make sense to use an electric-assist bike or if I could do the climb with a regular bike.
The last bit is very steep, so you will need fat tires (to get grib) and mountainbike gear... Most people are taking the train up and riding down.
Best ride ever!!!
Very beautyfull nature.
Thank you :-)
Yay sound!!
Hi do you know any other bike route like this ? I have done rallarvegen before it’s really fantastic ! But looking for other bike route like this
Hi Jin, It is really fantastic. We could not do more of the route because of snow, but i hope we can get back, so we can share the rest of the route. New Zealand has some pretty awesome rides too...
Great ! Thanks BTW
This amazing! Such beauty and splendour. That last 1/2 hour! Up until that I thought I’d love to do this myself, maybe not! If I can ask, how much did your trip for this route cost? I live in England and would need to hire a bike..Thanks, it’s a great video!
Hi Paul, Most people take the train up and do the ride downhill. The last part is very steep gravel. You can hire a bike at the begining of the ride.
Magnifique paysage dommage que le cyclo soit si pressé j'aurai aimé voir les cascades . Un instant. à part cela c'est une des plus belle promenade que je j'ai put faire
Merci :-)
Hairpin Respect!!! 😄
Thanks John :-)
If you don't have a E-bike you can always take the train up to Myrdal and ride back down to Flåm effortlesslsy ;) Bikes for rent in Flåm 😃
14mins in beautiful waterfall barely look at that's where I quit.
How do you find these rides? I'd love to find similarly beautiful routes with less climbing.
Lot's of research is being done to selet the best rides. The climbing on this ride is not to bad if you stop at the goat farm.
Thank you for sharing this beautiful route! Now I am tempted to do it as well during my trip to Norway. When did you ride it (month)? And on what time of day? Maybe it would be smart to avoid too much traffic. ;)
It was done in the middle of July in the afternoon. Notice this just features the most popular segment of Rallarvegen. The whole route is much longer. On the rest of the route, there will be much fewer bikes. But that part of the route was closed due to snow when we were there. Have a great ride :-)
@@BiketheWorld Mid of July - closed due to snow... Okay, thanks for that valuable information! :)
@@reneh.8817 That year had more snow than normal. Check out this video shot a week before: ruclips.net/video/UluJy9D3SM0/видео.html
Thanks!
Welcome!
I thought I'd spot a couple gnomes hidden in the forest?
Did you hit the only day without rain? 😁
It rains a lot in Norway, so timing when to film these videos is very difficult.
Which place is this brother
what camera are you using?
I go so much farther Thanks
Beautiful scenery but video too fast, not relaxing at all, I let you go ahead before it ended.
Too many cyclists for my liking :(
might be popular but I just wasted 10 minutes watching a boring ride--no doubt there are a LOT better and scenic rights
No worries Drew, We would love to learn of more scenic rides not already on our channel, so we can share them with others.
I had to stop watching, you almost hit a kid and a puppy, what the heck is wrong with you, COURTESY, look up the word, it will make you human.
Thank you for your concern. Using a wide-angle lens makes everything look like it is closer than it really is. As everybody can see I did lower the speed and almost stopped. But was able to navigate securely.
