Thanks for answering some questions I had in your video. Sounds like the Husqvarna is the one that would suit my needs. I sure would like you to look at a few vintage ones on e-Bay to help me decide on one or more of those.
Thank you for the very kind words, Kevin! I am very happy to hear that you enjoyed the carving/fine work part of the video, as I love doing that type of work with an axe! Very nice to hear from you, my friend! -Dave
I'm always a sucker for a good axe/hatchet video. Great job showing the tools. The Husqvarna has a surprisingly large head on a short handle. And the Countless tool looks quick and to be a better carver. Thanks for the work you do.
Thank you, Jonathan! I enjoy axe/hatchet videos, as well! You are exactly right about both axes. The Husqvarna has some weight to it for a hatchet but I enjoy the extra weight. Thank you for the kind words, my friend, and I hope to talk with you again soon! -Dave
I am all about quality that is affordable, my friend! I think you would really enjoy any or all 3 of these camp axes. Thank you for taking the time to watch! Great to hear from you! -Dave
This was a big help!!! As I mentioned I do not carry an ax now, but I see that the Council Tool ax would be a great all around general purpose ax if I should start carrying one. Thank You Dave for sharing your Knowledge and experience with these three axes! ATB, Lee
I haven't watched all your videos but a segment on camp axe safety would be welcomed. How you protect your hands, limbs, feet when using an axe. It would be good to get your views on this and using knives as well. Thank you for this short series on these tools.
Sorry for the late reply, work work wor and no internet where i was... You did a good job on the splitting Dave. Nice review on the 3 axe. Thank you for sharing and looking forward to your next video! -Yves
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your awesome comment, Yves! I appreciate it, very much, my friend! I look forward to having your here for the next video! -Dave
Yes, very good tools, Federico! I am happy to hear that you enjoyed the video and I appreciate you stopping by, my friend! Very nice to hear from you! -Dave
Very nice presentation of the three axes. I am considering the Fiskars as a lightweight alternative to my current axe. Thanks again for taking so much time. I too love high carbon steel!
Thank you for watching, Lawrence! I think you will enjoy the Fiskars, as it's an excellent little axe! I appreciate you taking the time to stop by and let me know how you like the Fiskars if you pick one up! -Dave
Looks like a nice little AX. That is not a bad price at all I checked Amazon it is 34 with free shipping that is a great price. I have the Husqvarna Hatchet and i'm very happy with it going to check out that sheath for sure atb John
I don't think you can go wrong with any Council Tool axe! Great company, excellent quality axes and very nice people! Thank you for stopping by, John! -Dave
Thank you for the kind words, my friend! I really appreciate you stopping by and leaving your awesome comment! It's so nice to hear that you enjoy my channel, brother! Thanks! -Dave
I think you would enjoy the Husqvarna, my friend! It has some nice weight to it. Thank you for watching and leaving your awesome comment, brother! -Dave
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your very nice comment, Christine! I appreciate the kind words! Very nice to hear from you, my friend! -Dave
Great two parter Dave. I enjoyed hearing your thought on these great camp tools. I have gone to a Stihl Wood cutter series hatchet for this category. A 600 gram head and large cutting edge do a great job. It is in the same price and size range as these great axes. take care -Chris
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your nice comment, Chris! I really enjoy your video on the Stihl axe, especially the bankline/super glue handle wrap. Not to mention, I love Stihl tools. I have the 211 Chainsaw and it's the best I have ever owned. Stihl really is the Cadillac of tools. Haven't ventured into their axes just yet but I plan to down the road. -Dave
Even though the husquvarna hatchet is my first hatchet, I still think its amazing, perfect size, great weight, cheap, retains a good edge, and bites wood great. In my opinion. But it can get a little too sharp sometimes. Because Monday, I was using it, and testing it by splitting some wood, wooked great until it glanced off the log, and hit my left index finger. It missed a tendon, and was about 3 millimeters to hitting my bone. I had to get 6 stiches, I still love the hatchet though
Oh man, Ethan! Be careful out there! Those axes tend to bite...haha! I enjoy my Husqvarna, a lot, too! Very good quality axe at a nice price. Thank you for watching and leaving your awesome comment! -Dave
Great minds think alike ;0) I have the same three hatchets and purchased the same mask for my Husqvarna. I'm going to take a crack at making a mask for my Council Tool Camp axe/Hatchet. If it comes out ok I make one for you as well.
You are exactly right, Scott..great minds do think alike! A leather mask for your Council Tool camp axe sounds like an excellent idea! I am not very crafty, myself, but would love to hear how it turns out, my friend! -Dave
This awesome bushcraft channel ever made and the videos he's are awesome and brilliant and fantastic and I am glad to support this amazing man and his awesome bushcraft channel 👍❤️🎶🎶🎶😄😄😄😄😄😄😄🖖🖖🖖
Great video as always Dave! These are all great budget options. It seems prices have fluctuated significantly since you made this though, because on Amazon the Husqvarna is the cheapest of the three, at $23.
Thank you for watching and leaving your kind words, Charles! Haha..I just made the video the other day, I just reference the price I paid over a year ago and the range I found when searching. Interesting...the price has come down quite a bit since I purchased it! -Dave
You are going to love Council Tool axes, Dawn, and those are 2 of my favorites! Great company, excellent tools and very, very nice people over there. Not to mention, their prices are very competitive. Thank you for watching, my friend! -Dave
Thanks for the great review! I need to pick up a small axe/hatchet for cleaning up a bunch of branches off several (25+) dying ash trees that I've had to cut down. (I'm hoping to build a fort with my kids out of the 1" - 2" diameter branches) I also want something to take camping / backpacking with me. I'm interested in the Fiskars due to it's weight. I like the look of the Husqvarna, and I was wondering if it really will do more work than the Fiskars to justify being nearly twice the weight. If it's going to hold an edge much longer and take fewer swings to cut, I wouldn't mind the extra weight. The many reviews and videos I've watched seem to indicate that the Fiskars works just as hard, while being much lighter.
The Fiskars is an excellent hatchet, which will do a great deal of work for you! I think you will like it a lot. For what you are looking to do, it will be just fine. Maybe after using it for a bit, you can check out the Husqvarna down the road but there isn't much the x7 won't do. -Dave
Thanks for your input Dave! I think it's great that you reply to all your comments. Even though I know you are right that the Fiskars is probably a great fit for what I need, I found the Husqvarna for $30 shipped and couldn't pass it up. Hopefully I don't regret getting the heaver one...
Isaac Chapman I can pretty much guarantee that you won't regret that purchase, my friend! The Husqvarna is an outstanding hatchet and I, personally, would choose it over the Fiskars all day long. I am much more of a wooden handle guy, anyway. All of the Husqvarna axes I own are top notch. Let me know how you like it! -Dave
I too am curious to know how you like the added weight? Im torn between the exact same two hatchets. I go camping several times a year, sometimes car camping with the family, other times long portages and hikes. Silky saws collect most of the wood, while the hatchet is more for splitting afterwards. Any recommendation and advice will be appreciated!
I don't cut down trees unless they are dead standing. I am not a fan of guys chopping down live trees in their videos. The majority of my axe work is bucking, splitting and carving. Nothing wrong with a machete, my friend! Thank you for watching! -Dave
Thank you for watching and leaving your nice comment! I really appreciate that! I have never been much of a 'hawk guy, as I have always preferred axes. -Dave
Maybe the Husqvarna is $35-40 in the USA, but it's close to $60 in Canada. The Fiskars is around $35, but even though it has a great warranty, if the axe breaks in the field there's no way to install a temporary handle (I suppose it could still be used as a splitting wedge, though). And I can't seem to find a Council Tools axe anywhere up here. I'm reduced to using my most excellent Estwing, and re-handling old garage sale hatchets till I find a Husqvarna or Council Tools hatchet. Nevertheless, all three of these tools are great. Thanks for the video, Dave!
You are exactly right, my friend! Tough to find great quality out there. I have found Council Tool to be my best option - www.counciltool.com. I really appreciate you stopping by and it's nice talking with you, brother! I hope everything is going well for you! -Dave
Got a video or two on axes and multitools coming out myself this summer. Plus maybe a Hultafors knife review. And I'll see if I can get that Council Tools axe. Thanks again!
Say Heah David, A while back even though I really didn't need a 17" Hatchet, I got a reasonable close out Hultafors Bruks Agdor Range, They stopped making that range for the Classic, I think, Anyhow it came out spot on, As far as the steel it's the same as the more expensive hatchet's the only difference is the derail isn't as good, But in a short time, I has it looking like my G. B. Small Forest Axe, and it holds a very good edge retention. Towards the later fall, I'll bring it out as part of my Trio I'll use especially when I'm Scouting and especially my "Afternoon Delight's, Generally I'll process more wood to stay warm and to cook. Yeah, Everytime I wanted to pull the trigger on a Husqvarna Hatchet, Something distracts me, Oh don't get me wrong, I'm as happy as a clam that I bought my 17" Agdor, I think it's as good if not better than some of the other hatchet's, But recently I've been using my Estwing Double Bit Hatchet which I have one bit to fell and the other side to split. My belt knives vary, But I like using my Tweezers or that size up to a 6" blade, especially my Bokor Black Rold that matches nicely with either my BK-14 with Scales or my Mora 510 as my neck knife I really like my Wicked Tough Saw because of the Sheath and that I can carry it in the opened position especially when I'm using it to set up, I usually use my Haversack, with my Military Web belt that I have my Canteen and my Necessity Pouch (Firestarter, Mini First Aide, Compass Etc.) my other C's are in my Haversack. I don't like taking my Backpacks regardless in size for day trios, I can get away going lite especially mentioning when I scout, Thanx for informing our community, Your getting better and better and letting us know what's out there or to simply compare what we already have Again, Thanx, David.
It's funny, to me, I thought this had a great fawns foot for a hatchet since it bulged not only front to back but side to side. I've picked up later model Truper/Collins hatchets and they only have an angle cut front to back. I think they cut their handles from a thinner piece of wood to save some money. Whereas, this entire handle started from a wider blank of wood and more material was removed.
Say Heah Dave, Guess what, I bought the Husqvarna All Purpose Forest Axe and the Council 24 Wood Craft Pack Axe yeah with the heavy duty sheath and sling, Either one should compliment my new W. C. Master Woodsman or even my new/old Benchmade 156 CSK in D2 which was in the box because I made a mistake and ordered it with the Serrations, But last weekend proved to be a pleasant experience and I made some nice curls with it. Laterz.
Oh, I also got the handle leather protectors, Infact I bought four of them to protect my Iltis 19" House Axe, My Gransfors Bruks Small Forest Axe, My Hultafors Bruks 17" Agdor Hatchet, the Husqvarna and the Council 24 " Wood Craft Pack Axe, My Estwings don't need it and I don't need it for my (2) 2Hawks Double Bit Hatchet and my WarBeast Tomahawk which ate prolly my on person carry choppers for task specific when I Scout especially solo. Anyhow Have a Safe Labor Day, I hope it's a boy heh heh heh
That is so great to hear, my friend! I am happy that I could be of some assistance and love the fact that you are happy with the Husqvarna! I enjoy mine, very much, as well! Thank you for watching, Andrew! -Dave
for me id go for 1 husqvarna as made by hults bruk swedish axe magicans 2 fiskars 3 council tools as us products have a bad rep as poor quality outside of the usa. in Europe we look to Scandinavia, germany and japan as signs of quality. generally us products are garbage.
I love your videos but you are killing me with the way you say Husqvarna. LOL I mean no offence. Put some hillbilly bushman slang on it!! Keep up the great videos!!
Haha! Thank you for the kind words, my friend! The reason I pronounce Husqvarna that way is I have a friend from Sweden that has been teaching me the proper Swedish way to say their brand names. Someday, way in the future, I will visit Sweden and don't want to sound like an idiot when I go to the Husqvarna & Morakniv factories. I appreciate you taking the time to watch and hope to talk with you again soon! -Dave
Thanks for answering some questions I had in your video. Sounds like the Husqvarna is the one that would suit my needs. I sure would like you to look at a few vintage ones on e-Bay to help me decide on one or more of those.
As always a thorough demonstration of both quality axes and your axe skills. Well done.
Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your nice comment, Bill! I appreciate the kind words, my friend! -Dave
Excellent Review, Dave! Hope all is well. Take care.
Great vid. Your high speed chopping is ninja like :). Really appreciate seeing the fine work, feather sticks and hooks, made with the ax.
Thank you for the very kind words, Kevin! I am very happy to hear that you enjoyed the carving/fine work part of the video, as I love doing that type of work with an axe! Very nice to hear from you, my friend! -Dave

Say Heah David, A while back even though I really didn't need a 17" Hatchet, I got a reasonable close out Hultafors Bruks Agdor Range, They stopped making that range for the Classic, I think, Anyhow it came out spot on, As far as the steel it's the same as the more expensive hatchet's the only difference is the derail isn't as good, But in a short time, I has it looking like my G. looks like you can't go wrong with either one
You are exactly right, my friend! Thank you for watching! -Dave
How do you define a, "True fawns foot"?
I've always thought of a true fawns foot/paw as more curved and an even fatter swell on the bottom. Thank you for watching! -Dave
Chris F Yes! I love companies that start with the wider blank of wood! Shows that quality is their concern. -Dave
Thats great, my friend! You are going to love both axes! -Dave
Don't know how ate got in there I better start proof reading my posts
I think the husqvarna steel is C55 carbon. Very common swedish axe steel
Thank you for the information, my friend! I appreciate you stopping by! -Dave
Husqvarna axes are made from C55/1055 mid carbon steel.
Thank you, my friend! -Dave

Thank you, my friend! I really appreciate that! -Dave
Axes and hatchets are two different tools with two different purposes. Good job on the Husqvarna pronunciation though!
What a great review there Dave After your review a while back I bought the Husqvarna hatchet I am very happy with it A T B from Scotland Andrew
That is so great to hear, my friend! I am happy that I could be of some assistance and love the fact that you are happy with the Husqvarna! I enjoy mine, very much, as well! Thank you for watching, Andrew! -Dave
I have all of them. I think I have a problem.
Haha..I have the same problem, my friend! Thank you for watching, Wes! Which is your favorite of the 3? -Dave
If I am limbing all day the Fiskar. If I may get lost probably the council. The red you can see if you drop it and the husky may blend in too much.
If I am limbing all day the Fiskar. If I may get lost probably the council. The red you can see if you drop it and the husky may blend in too much.
Wes Razz I like the red paint on the Council Tool, as well! -Dave

for me id go for 1 husqvarna as made by hults bruk swedish axe magicans 2 fiskars 3 council tools as us products have a bad rep as poor quality outside of the usa. in Europe we look to Scandinavia, germany and japan as signs of quality. generally us products are garbage.
-Dave
That council tool handle is crap, just look at the grain.
