    Anyone who denies this is Bonham doesn't know a lot about Bonham. The only thing that could make it more obvious is if we had film footage of the session. It's hardly worth debating.

      @@rickyjiggens2180 it’s Bonham, from the way the drums are miked, also Bonham had a distinctive style of delaying the 1st beat in the bar sometimes and you can hear it. Also the swing and feel is him, the way it is executed with the ghost notes being slightly out of line, not to the point where it is full swung but just enough. Also the bass drum needs no explaining.
      I suggest you subscribe to Bonzoleum and Bonhamology on RUclips. Terry from the Bonzoleum channel frequently does lives streams I think every Thursday and if you tune in he happily answers questions. He’s covered this recording before and he says with out a doubt it’s Bonham. He’s also a really cool and entertaining guy, he has many videos that can help drummers like you and me.

    I've been studying Bonham for 30 years and can certify this as him. I've heard many who can play Bonham well, like Dan Zalac, Michael Desrosiers, etc. but none have all the pieces in place to create a perfect copy of the original. If this is not Bonham, then the drummer should come forth and become an instant star.

    The kick drum triplets are there, very subtle on Led Zeppelin II recording. Got to really listen with headphones. They are 32nd notes in the notation the 3 flags would designate that. The triplet snare coast notes in between the 5 fluffed crashes before the chorus twice in beginning and twice at end are almost silent and the notation transcriber missed that and it is hard to hear as well. Its John Bonham. Nobody has played like that from what I heard. Super Smooth especially the fluffed crashes and kick control the builds and soft parts are luscious as Terry would say. Bonzo 100%

    It's Bonzo... My guess it's just the bass drum mic, with all the glorious bleed from the rest of the kit. Sometimes the engineer will put the kick mic on the beater side of the drum, which will pick up the bottom of the snare.Great low end from his drum!

    I’ve read that sound engineers said Bonzo hit the drums so hard, they couldn’t use traditional drum mics on his set. They would shake or fly off by the third beat. And when one did manage to stay on, his sound was so loud, you’d have to place the mic a foot or more away from the drum!! Bonzo was a BEAST!!

    What the hell are you talking about? That sound is definitely Bonham. The cymbal sound matches the cymbal sound in WLL. Just because you don't hear the squeak doesn't mean it's not Bonham. The snare sounds just like Bonham, what are you talking about? That's one pedal for sure. There is an unevenness to it that a double pedal can't achieve. The sound is different because the sound of the drums was changed in post-production. You are completely fucking wrong.

    Yeah man I get that part.. I keep getting that response from other videos I've posted on too... but the problem is that this is the year 2013 now and "isolated drum tracks" do not have 'bleed'.
    Nevertheless, apparently I was a bit over the top with my original comment. It seems I've calmed over the past three months, which is good.

  • @TheGoreguts
    @TheGoreguts 7 лет назад

    Yeah I'd say this is definitely a kick drum mic or a lower room microphone from the mix.
    They weren't really doing 'raw' tracks back then as everything was limited to track count and tones were baked into the tape due to the chain it was running through.
    You got the tones at the time of tracking and then adjusted levels after playback.

  • @simongarrettmusic

    because of bleed. every drum has a mic on it and they are all picking-up the track in Bonham's headphones, that's probably at least 6 mics.

  • @Phrase
    @Phrase 6 лет назад +1

    I would say this is Bonham playing, but obviously it's not the full drum track, it sounds like this was just the bass drum mic. If you added in the room mics and over heads, that would make all the difference. As for the hi-hat pattern, the 16th's you hear on the album are a delay effect, there's no way Bonham would have actually played it like that. Same thing with When The Levee Breaks, there are a lot of extra "notes" that you can hear on the recording which are there due to the effects used on the track. It can be difficult to tell sometimes which notes were actually played and which ones are an echo / delay!
