The windup speed also depends on the voltage going to the siren usually these have about 280vac to 480vac going to them if higher then faster windup speeds if lower slower windup speeds.
What really impresses me about the p50 and what makes it sound so good is the initial Echo upon spin up as the trailing sounds eventually catch up when it reaches full speed it's quite a lovely Harmony even if it's only at the start
Notes are B flat and F. It is a 5th interval in music terms. Essentially, a fifth describes a 3:2 pitch ratio between the low and high note, which is equal to 12:8 (The port ratio.)
I know it's an 8/12 port siren, but i kind of hear 3 tones in this. I don't know why, but i do. I hear the 12 port, and the 8 port, and there's i guess a hearing illusion of a 3rd, 4th port.
It’s not you. It’s simple science and physics, with some elementary school math in the mix. We need to think of 8/12 (the port ratio) as a fraction, which can be simplified to 2/3 by dividing the top and bottom by 4. This means, if you look at the rotor, there should be 4 identical quadrants. So, for 1 full rotation of the rotor, the 12 and 8 ports only sound “together” 4 times, giving the illusion that there’s a 4 port, or a 4/8/12 port ratio. A 2/3 pitch ratio is also known as a fifth in music theory. I also sometimes hear that low harmonic in a fifth when certain instruments are played, especially synthesizers.
Every time I get off the I-94 freeway and cross that big 108th Street hill near Theodore Trecker Way, I suprisingly never see this siren when I'm so high up. Probably because it's yellowness blends in with all the freaking trees surrounding the area.
Nicely done. And oh, WOW, is that a bird's nest I see hanging down from the main gear box? Never seen that before on a siren, but I HAVE seen sirens with snow in them - which gets blown out as soon as the unit fires up. The same goes for when birds are perched atop the siren head, and they get a total shock when the unit fires up. It's one of the funniest things I've seen in a siren capture.
The funny thing about this video is what's the sign when he's done testing? And it comes back on. Edit: Oh it always does that, I was being dumb the whole time lol
This siren must be old but still how cool is the siren I like how it test that tornado siren looks like cool it's a mere Hydro Towers which is pretty cool I know that siren it's called a tornado siren look at the hydro Towers at the back a siren must be in your hydro Towers why is it a test in Greenfield Park
Pro Gamer Chris Paris has 7 or 8, there's 4 of these, a P15 by PHS and a couple of new FS sirens because they have started an improvement/replacement program, and they said it will take 2 FS per current siren.
I heard this is the loudest siren I mean it's cool but really it's AWSOME and I don't think it's the loudest cause they are all loud cause I think the 2001-series and this siren are the loudest plus the air raid sirens but they aren't loud compared to one from today
I wouldn't say "so easily" because these have been here for decades and yeah with time they're gonna take a beating. P-50's do tend to have a lot of holes just cause they're so loud haha
+arey1211 I just wish they would be refurbished instead of being replaced... These were (and still are I believe) the biggest AND loudest sirens ever to be made, and why replace something that holds that title? A good refurbishment and a modernization would most likely cost less than a whole new modern siren...
+Fifthcell i completely agree with you. Kenosha refurbished their P-50's so they will be in service for a very long time. The only issue with these sirens is the incapability for battery backup. Cities looking for upgrades or replacements will only get sirens with battery backup. The T-135 AC/DC is 132dB (loudest in production and still probably largest) & it has battery backup so thats a nice choice. T-128 same way.
+arey1211 You'd think with today's tech, they would be able to modernize them by giving them that ability for battery backup... I mean, if they can refurbish them to make them sound and look brand-new, they could (possibly should) be able to give it that ability...
Incredible how even with a 50 HP motor, it still takes a good 5 or 6 seconds to get that huge rotor to full speed.
What is the width of the rotor
About 3 feet?
Lol imagine it had a v10 for the motor 💀
The windup speed also depends on the voltage going to the siren usually these have about 280vac to 480vac going to them if higher then faster windup speeds if lower slower windup speeds.
This siren is basically what got me into the whole siren thing. Very nice recording!!

Same here. I didn't even have an interest in sirens until I saw and heard this one.

Well, not THIS P-50. It was the one amtrak3501 recorded in Kenosha County, Wisonsin on 5/16/2015.
Same here 😂 this siren is a beautiful monster
This siren is basically what made me shit my pants and bawl uncontrollably whenever a tornado warning was issued for Milwaukee county haha
Midwest Siren Productions the salter park thunderbolt is what got me into sirens!
I have to see this thing before it’s gone, this siren is the reason I love sirens now

The same P-50 that Ramfett recorded, still going strong! :)

Those P-50s are staying. They’ll keep expanding I believe, but they’re keeping those beasts after Goddard Enterprises convinced them to.
A cool video of a cool siren with a nice loud sound off!
I love how on some of ur scary siren videos are on "made for kids mode"😂
