in November 2023 I found a 2000 F150 7700 series 4x4 XL with skidplates and trailer towing package on craigslist with a matching canopy and seven spare tires on 7 lug rims for $2500. After putting $1000 into new 12 ply tires and another $800 in fluids and upgrades (dashcam, rear view camera, auxillary power source) I found my baby to be a SNOW BEAST!

What dashcam did you go with? I've been thinking about adding one.

Bought my 7700 years ago (Highway department truck) had 32K on it when I bought it. Paid 12,800 for it. It’s now 2024 and truck has 121K on. Put new alternator, Battery, tires recently. Great truck and best part it’s paid for!

Heat problem could be the blend door and not the core. Very common failure point on these trucks.

I have one too. Nice truck. I have not deleted the CNG. I wonder how difficult that will be. Looking to buy another one, probably in the South as the trucks of this vintage in Nebraska are mostly rusting out! I need the F250 frame because I will use it for a snow plow. I am looking at 2000 to 2003. I thing the 5.4 L engines were bad in 2004.

I guess the thing with the CNG setup is the tank itself expires at some point and supposedly becomes unsafe to use (if you fill it).

Oh, I forgot, it’s also an XL. :)

These originally were the Light duty F-250 from 1997-2000 or maybe 2001 i believe. The 7 lug hubs was the easiest way to identify these trucks. Originally when they came out, it was just to fill a void, because in 98 there was no heavy duty trucks from Ford. The super duty didn't come out until 99. I'm surprised they didn't sell better, because I thought it would fill a niche for buyers that would haul a decent amount thatd be too hard on a half ton, but didn't want the massive super duty truck.

Previous to Super Duty, all Ferds were just diff. springs and maybe rear end.

In 97 the F150 body changed but the 250,350 and “super duty (450/550) were still the older style body. Ford offered the F250 LD which was the 7700lb package on a f150 frame with heavier components. Like previous posters stated the way to tell were the 7 lug rims. In 98 the new “Super Duty” line was released which was F250-550 plus the new 650 and 750 trucks. The 650/750 trucks could be ordered with a Cat, Cummins or 7.3L Powerstroke engine. The only diesel option for the 250-550 was the powerstroke, gas option was the V10 or 5.4L

I've got a 2000 7700, and I love it. Having a heck of a time finding a camper shell for it though. Spare wheels as well with the 7 lugs. Did your camper shell come with the vehicle or did you purchase it afterwards? Was wondering what the brand is on the shell. Is yours a 6.5 ft bed?

Yeah, 6.5 foot bed. I guess there is a longer one, too. The camper came with the truck and I don't see any brand names on it anywhere. I'd assume any 97-03 F150 short bed shell would work.
