I like it, don't see many casual oriented budget brews much nowadays. Obviously this isn't aimed for performing really well, but i can tell it is very fun to pilot :D
I think it's important to show some casual decks. Lots of budget deck players are casual players and just want a fun deck to call there own. Even if it is not tier 1. Source: I was one of theses players for a very log time and still am at heart.
I had been toying around with the idea of making a hydra deck. Your videos has helped me to find where I wanted to go with it. Thanks for posting! I just found out about your channel and will definitely be watching your other budget deck! They all look pretty awesome!
Ahhhhh, yea. The hydras! Admittedly the version I've been working on is a green devotion build (thinks for that idea) with Broodmaster Hydra as the installation win button.
I would be very careful with Doomblade given DS is a big part of the meta. I would personally split it half and half with Ultimate Price with the other halves on the sideboard.
Bio shift, maybe. But when I tested with Corpse Jack Menace I found it was too slow. This deck is not a Devotion / ramp deck so it docent make a ton of mana. So even when I did get him into play I was still only getting 1 or 2 counters value at a time. Compared to The devotion deck that aims to put 5-10 counters on at a time.
Nice , I'd probably switch llanowar wastes and evolving wilds with better duals and fetches ..looks like a deck I'd be willing to try, been wanting to get out of standard for a the past few months and I love Hydras lol
Unfortunately it is not fast enough for modern. If you are making this deck or a casual play group then I would say putting 1 in the deck would work just fin. Probably replacing a Protein Hydra.
Kalonian hydra would be good as a 1 or 2 of at the top of the mana curve. solidarity of heroes is only kinda ok in this deck. The deck does not make a lot of mana so this card is a bit expensive to cast. (assuming you are targeting 2 or more creatures)
This is something that has been on my mind, but why don't you also make a Deck Profile on Tappedout for the Upgraded Versions of the Decks featured on the channel? Just asking, I really enjoy this idea of a deck with aggro synergies
To be honest because I don't play test all the upgraded decks with the cards I recommend. The cards I suggest are more of a jumping off point for people that want to work on refining the deck further. Mind you some times there are direct upgrades.
Have you considered running polukranos, world eater in the board vs large numbers of creatures? However it might be to slow. Mostly I'm worried about aggro or burn, but that might involve running more spot removal, or splashing for some sort of boardwipe cards like radiant flames perhaps. prey upon looks good vs some more frail creatures also, while playing well with protean hydra, but that seems to much like a gimmick.
I tried it a little in my testing and found that it was too mana intensive. This deck docent make a ton of mana so playing 4 drops is already at the top of the mana curve. Then paying XXG was even harder. Lots of times I was paying 1,1,G and doing 1 damage which just didn't get me vary far.
My hydra deck does well with Corpsejack, but i added more manadorks to gain the favor in the early turns instead giving more counters. Different builds, i'd love to play against you to try out witch deck comes best out (only i have it in paper not in MTGO) Keep up the good work, i do love Hydra's btw :)
Ahh yah that is a different and I think more common version of Hydras. It would be super cool to test the 2 to see which is better. Thanks for the support!
This is true. If you have a bunch of blue control players in your local meta. Modern as a whole dose not see that much blue for control. More often people use Thoughtsize or Inquisition to remove problematic cards before they are even played.
If you are building a +1/+1 counter deck that is not specifically a hydras deck then it can be a ok 1 drop BUT it is much better suited in land ramp deck. Seeings how it only gets the counters if you have 5 or more lands on your upkeep.
I relay wanted to put Avatar of the resolute in this deck BUT at the same time wanted to make a Hydras tribal deck. There are lots of good creatures that come in with +1/+1 counters.
yea make sense xD, realy nice deck, but with avatar and rishkar you gona pump more your deck with rishkar passive for your Xcmc plus 1+/1+ markers and resolute shines even more
Hey, what do you think of Having Metallic Mimic in here, as the deck is kinda a "tribal" deck, with it every hydra that etbs will get x counters, + 1 from each hardened scales and or snake + 1 from Mimic which will be one more from each scales or snakes again, or is my math complety wrong? ^^
I think it is a very good Idea. I probably should have put it in the Upgrade section. This would also make it so we can play our Hydras for just 1 green. Insane.
Because once you step into the world of Budget decks you realize you can play lots of decks that are fun and themed. I definitely have 2 types of decks on this channel. 1.Decks that are built to be upgraded into tier 1 and tier 2 decks. Such as Dredge, Tron, Izzet delver, Merfolk and Soul sisters. 2. Decks that are exploring an idea or card. Such as Devotion to Goats, Paradox Elves, Heartless Myr combo and Hydra tribal. The second type of decks are for the Johnny players that are more interested in strange deck ideas rather then best possible versions of the deck.
Giant Monster Games I think you misunderstand me. I dont play tier one decks like tron ect. Heck my favorite deck that im currently obsessed with is tribal humans. I was merely asking why tribal hydras, where is the reason in the deck for just hydras? Counter synergy is great but there are better creatures for that synergies.
+Chameleon EDM its proven to be quite consistent. The deck isn't trying to overkill the opponent or kill them in one hit. Rather it's do constant damage that is hard to block. I.e. Trample or unblockable
I fond that is was too slow. This deck is better at winning as a value midrange that is doing medium damage ever turn rather then 1 big hit to finish the game.
Giant Monster Games a friend of mine has 3 hangarback and two primordial what should be replaced if I trade him ? Im New to modern so I have no idea what's good and bad
I Test against a wide variety of decks, including decks that are in the top 8 meta. When making the game play videos I don't always get paired up against them so you don't get to see them being played against Eldrazi Tron, Grixis control, Ad nauseum and what not. Langley because I record 1/2 of the videos in the Just for fun / Getting serious groups. I do this because it is useless showing the decks losing against tier 1 decks again and again. Remember theses are budget decks, a large amount of people that make theses decks are playing casual with friends or at a more friendly FNM. I personally think it is better to show how the synergies of the deck work and some of the lines of plays rather then showing the deck losing on turn 4-5 because in order to stand a fair change against tier 1 decks you need expensive cards. If you don't agree, then I would love to hear some suggestions on how I can solve this problem?
Yeah I agree however where I live fnm is unfortunately not that friendly and I always get matched up with loads of meta decks and lose pretty fast. I would suggest simply making some competitive decklists that are more expensive but still not as expensive as meta decks. Essentially bridging the gap...
There are definitely a couple decks on this channel that are budget versions of Tire 1 & 2 decks. Starting with one of those and upgrading as you have the free cash is a good idea. When it comes to mid budget $100 - $200 decks. That gets into muddy territory. Currently Against the Odds over on the MTGGoldfish channel is doing a lot of those kinds of decks. they are odd and fun and not too expensive. Because of this I've been sticking to just budget decks. If this channel grows to the point where I can afford to put up more regular content I will definitely branch out into that area, but at this time I'm mostly just doing Budget decks. Some of which are more geared towards casual players.
Yes thats a very good point but standard is also a great format in which a 60$ deck could potentially win FNM but I do understand you might prefer some formats over others.
Your Local game store needs to provide free land if you ask for them. Wizards of the Coast provide them with Land Packages to give to players and use in in store events.
I like it, don't see many casual oriented budget brews much nowadays. Obviously this isn't aimed for performing really well, but i can tell it is very fun to pilot :D

YAH HYDRAS! Glad I could provide a jumping off point for you. Happy Brewing and let me know what you come up with.
Ahhhhh, yea. The hydras! Admittedly the version I've been working on is a green devotion build (thinks for that idea) with Broodmaster Hydra as the installation win button.
I think your variant is more common.
Prolly so. But still lots of fun. I've actually beat Legacy-Vintage elvs
Thanks m8, I've been waiting for a Hydra deck that is amazing for ever!
No problem. Glad I could help. Now go forth and destroy!
What the, GIANT MONSTER GAMES IS BACK?!
Finally, I can start watching magic videos again :)
hiatus is over, back to making videos.
Giant Monster Games well, you have been deeply missed, welcome back!
That's what I hear. The Zombies deck i put up 2 weeks ago for an INSANE amount of welcome back comments.
I feel like even though it costs more, go for the throat would be a far better option than doom blade
Agreed. I always take the budget option if there is one.
I would be very careful with Doomblade given DS is a big part of the meta. I would personally split it half and half with Ultimate Price with the other halves on the sideboard.
That is a very good point that i did not think of.
I have a Golgari Counters Deck Thats Pretty much this With Hangerbacks, Ballistas and Corpsjack, Runs Some Decent Ramp too
Could corpse jack menace and or bio shift be good in this deck?
Bio shift, maybe. But when I tested with Corpse Jack Menace I found it was too slow. This deck is not a Devotion / ramp deck so it docent make a ton of mana. So even when I did get him into play I was still only getting 1 or 2 counters value at a time. Compared to The devotion deck that aims to put 5-10 counters on at a time.
I am going to make a devotion version of this deck too. I think Ill do less with the little counter stuff, and more ramp.
Thanks have been waiting for this!
Ho prob. It has been requested a lot.
Very nice deck ! I'm relatively new to magic and your channel helped me a lot ! Thank you for your great work. ;D
Glad I can help. I try to make my decks/videos for more casual players.
Nice , I'd probably switch llanowar wastes and evolving wilds with better duals and fetches ..looks like a deck I'd be willing to try, been wanting to get out of standard for a the past few months and I love Hydras lol
Hydra was my first deck. I'm glad I saw this video, gives me ideas on how to improve mine. (Love my Broodmaster too much to remove it lol)
Nice! It is a super fun deck. And Broodmaster is a good card. I can probably keep a 1 or 2 of in the deck.
I like this build I was wondering how about Oran-Rief Hydra 1 +1/+1 counter for each land you play or 2 +1/+1 if it was a forest
Unfortunately it is not fast enough for modern. If you are making this deck or a casual play group then I would say putting 1 in the deck would work just fin. Probably replacing a Protein Hydra.
Looks good, I love it!
What about the ozolith? While a bit expensive it can allow you to save counters if a hydra would die
I like the deck overall, but I feel like it could use a little bit of ramp in it.
This is not the hydra ramp deck you see running around. We would rather get in with some mid sized creatures rather then massive 20/20 creatures.
I think ordeal of erbos might be a good card to consider for someone trying to make it more budget or just try something a little different
I considered it. I just have a fear of playing enchantments on creatures, Because if they kill the creature you lose 2 cards.
I like the upgrade suggestions but would like to get your recommendations on what to drop for the upgraded creatures/spells. Thanks
What cards do you have?
I would also like to know this. I believe what he's asking is with the cards you recommended what would you replace from the main deck
Kalonian hydra or solidarity of heroes maybe to trigger the synergie ?
Kalonian hydra would be good as a 1 or 2 of at the top of the mana curve. solidarity of heroes is only kinda ok in this deck. The deck does not make a lot of mana so this card is a bit expensive to cast. (assuming you are targeting 2 or more creatures)
What do you think of Enduring Scalelord? I like pairing them with the Managorgers
it's... hummmmmmm I think if you made a W/G counter value deck it could find a place as a 1 or 2 of. But in this deck not so much.
Is there a list of what you would swap for what in the higher cost version
I don't actually have a list with what to put in. Sorry.
Your back!!!
Have you considered running polukranos, world eater in the board vs large numbers of creatures? However it might be to slow. Mostly I'm worried about aggro or burn, but that might involve running more spot removal, or splashing for some sort of boardwipe cards like radiant flames perhaps. prey upon looks good vs some more frail creatures also, while playing well with protean hydra, but that seems to much like a gimmick.

hail hydra :^)
how many primordial hydras would you add? 4? And what would you take out of your current deck.
I’d run 2 or 3. They are the top of the curve.
What do I replace for Primordial Hyrdra?
Any thought on using retribution of the ancients with protean hydra or the managorger?
I'd say no. It's much easier in modern to just play removal spells. This also makes our creatures smaller, thus making it harder for us to win.
Gyre sage would be great in this deck
I've never heard of Protein Hydras. Interesting.
I was wondering if managorger hydra would fit in an elves deck. What do you think?
I think so yes. Just remember that it docent get value from the lords. That's the one down side.
What about primordial hydra? That would be great in this deck. Also only $8
... only $8? that is not even close to budget. Playing 4 of them is over 50% of the budget of this whole deck.
Coat of arms would be nice for non-budget and for next suggestion, where is Corpsejack Menace?
I tested with it a lot and found it was just too slow and not needed. By the time I was at 4 mana I wanted to be playing big Hydras not that card.
My hydra deck does well with Corpsejack, but i added more manadorks to gain the favor in the early turns instead giving more counters. Different builds, i'd love to play against you to try out witch deck comes best out (only i have it in paper not in MTGO)

Any way y'all can make a hydra deck with ghaves theme?
Hey, I have a Kalonian Hydra and wanted to know if that would fit into this deck? If so, what should I switch out?
I would take out Protein Hydra for it.
@@GiantMonsterGames That's what I was thinking. Thank you!
"This is the Timmy deck of all Timmy decks."
Yes it is...
Yes it is...
What would you take away for 2 copies of primordial hydra?
Take out mistcuter Hydra.
Giant Monster Games I always thought mistcutter was awesome for being pro blue
This is true. If you have a bunch of blue control players in your local meta. Modern as a whole dose not see that much blue for control. More often people use Thoughtsize or Inquisition to remove problematic cards before they are even played.
How about Vraska, Relic Seeker
As a substitute for a room blade as spot removal
Can you fit some corpsejack menaces?
When I tested with it I found ti too slow. By the time I was playing him it was just overkill.
How much is this deck now
What do you think about Scute Mob?
If you are building a +1/+1 counter deck that is not specifically a hydras deck then it can be a ok 1 drop BUT it is much better suited in land ramp deck. Seeings how it only gets the counters if you have 5 or more lands on your upkeep.
Avatar of the resolute?

yea make sense xD, realy nice deck, but with avatar and rishkar you gona pump more your deck with rishkar passive for your Xcmc plus 1+/1+ markers and resolute shines even more
Rite of Passage?
Cam And Alex have left the chat
does make you winding constrictor more vulnerable to infect?
It does but you only live once so may as well go all in. right?
YOLO!!! ^^
Love it!
¿Can you Made a budget mono blue illusions deck tech? Greetings from México, amazing channel
Hello Mexico viewer! I can work on making this deck. It's hard because the best illusions are not budget.
Where's corpsejack menace?
When I was testing the deck I found that is was too slow. This deck is better and faster playing X,G hydras with value.
Insane.
Yeah thats what I also had thought about, thanks for replying and keep up the good work ^^
I'm in love
you and me both
Giant Monster Games lol
strangleroot geist would be really good in this deck!!!
definitely has some good synergies. If I wasn't going to a Hydra tribal I would have probably put it in.
Giant Monster Games why are you going hydra tribal? Why not just run more efficent green creatures with counter synergies?
Because once you step into the world of Budget decks you realize you can play lots of decks that are fun and themed. I definitely have 2 types of decks on this channel.
1.Decks that are built to be upgraded into tier 1 and tier 2 decks. Such as Dredge, Tron, Izzet delver, Merfolk and Soul sisters.

I was merely asking why tribal hydras, where is the reason in the deck for just hydras? Counter synergy is great but there are better creatures for that synergies.
Also the creatures are budget
Cool ass deck! No ramp or draw though? How consistent is this deck without it?
+Chameleon EDM its proven to be quite consistent. The deck isn't trying to overkill the opponent or kill them in one hit. Rather it's do constant damage that is hard to block. I.e. Trample or unblockable
dual lands are so expensive. =[ I at least need 6 of each color just to be safe =]
Can someone send me a link to this deck to tcgplayer
Look in the description
The deck is a good idea but with way too few lands
No Corpsejack Menace eh?
It was too slow when I was testing.
Best non budget upgrades? Anyone?
I was looking at corpse jack menace , he can put twice as many counters so snake+menace get +1 than x2 insane counters
Take out the Mistcutter hydras, then take out the Protien Hydras.
make more......more.....
Things are brewing.
Budget death and taxes
it's a hard one that I've been working on for a long time. The core of the deck is just not budget.
There's no defense against flying
Dis shit needs corpsejack menace
+Rompstir rompson tried it a d found it to slow. It was a win more situation.
How come you guys dont playtest against the meta much?
I Test against a wide variety of decks, including decks that are in the top 8 meta. Your Local game store needs to provide free land if you ask for them. Wizards of the Coast provide them with Land Packages to give to players and use in in store events.
Giant Monster Games well I’ll ask next time I’ve never seen them give out land
Put primordial hydra In this, ultimate hate deck
Please do infect
one day I will.
