If I remember correctly he was Hung Kuen.
It is hard to find someone competing with traditional Hung Gar Chain whip because there are less of the "crowd pleasing" maneuvers and more technique that you might use.
You almost never see the two hand Chain grab wrap that he does at 4:42 because it isnt flashy enough, even in traditional.
I dont care for the swinging a chain like a 3-section staff, but we all have our favorite techniques.
With a little more practice I think he will be very skilled.

Both should have been in open weapon division according to icmac guidelines

Yes, there is a very nice 3 section staff too...
But there are two Chain whip performances in this video. The 3 section staff just comes first.
If you didn't watch the whole video go back, and see the rest, they are well worth the few minutes :-)
    Thanks for watching.
A host of new videos are coming very soon!!

very nice performance for the chain whip!!! super
but i recognized, you cant stop a heavy whip like he did with the wushu one.. with less rotation and stoping with one hand.
maybe iam wrong but i wouldnt like to try it^^ someone else?

I personally think that all weapons performance should be done with combat ready weapons. I bought a "wushu steel" (please forgive the term as we all know wushu is the actual translated term for martial arts) whip once just to see what it was like and it was so light I couldnt stand it. Combat heavy steel will always be for us.
At what time specifically was your comment aimed at?
I can see several examples of what you mentioned, but for conversation purposes?

I'll have to say that I enjoyed the traditional chain whip material, but the wushu stuff with the chain whips turned me off. Especially the but jumping with the whip underneath. Quite honestly, the very first chain whip contestant was my favorite.

      Interesting.
As you can see from my previous comments I completely agree about traditional and usable movements being better than the more contemporary flash, but I am surprised you liked the first chain whip guy (in red) better as his form contained more of the flashy modern wushu movements you dont like.
I am not criticizing, I am just surprised.

    Why do you say that?
The guy in red I can possibly see, but the guy in black did a set full of traditional and applicable moves. (Although I never cared for the but jumping in any form :-)
