A lot of people are upset that he told Noah to get a life, and I think that's valid. For me it hit harder when he said with a tone of disdain, "Go spend time with THIS?" He says this as if he's disgusted with his kids after ignoring them for nearly two hours while they are hungry. Noah is an absolute saint of a child for being that patient. I wouldn't even be that patient while hungry and I'm 25!
The 'get a life' stuff mainly just confused me. What did he even mean by that in that context? He was telling his 4-year-old daughter to 'get a life' in response to her asking him to make pancakes because she just woke up and was hungry. I don't even understand why he said that, and he says it a number of times in the video.
The worst part is that he could have filmed himself making the pancakes. The chat literally told him to keep the stream rolling as he made the pancakes, but he kept on fighting them on it. Why did he even do that? The chat wanted him to make pancakes, and the kids wanted him to make pancakes. Instead, he insulted both the chat and his kids for more than an hour, then he claimed that his book was the most important thing in the world.
It seems like the only way he knows how to get anyone to do anything is through abuse, in a way. He verbally abuses them until their self-esteem is low, and then he claims that if they want to feel better they need to do whatever he says and make him happy. That's probably what he did to Rachel, what he did at Disney, and probably what he did to Noah, which was why he was so well-behaved.
Since his book is map-themed, he should have called it, "The ARRRR....t of Being an Arrogant A-hole." Get it??

This is clearly a man who never really had to parent his kids by himself. He is way used to having his own “me” time. He probably swooped in like a hero every once in awhile to make Mickey Mouse pancakes while the mom (or I don’t know - the nannies?) did all the actual parenting. And all the “y’all’s”? Cringey.

I watched ALL of it and it’s way way worse than these clips. He tells Noah to “get a life”…she comes outside so many times asking for pancakes, he tells her to tell the audience about their book Tea Time with Noah. OMG. It’s unbelievable! He goes on and on about how every person has a unique purpose…and no one is like anyone else. Yeah, umm, I learned that in ELEMENTARY school, how humans and snowflakes are each a unique version and there will never be 2 versions? He thinks he’s telling us something so profound??? I could go on and on. It’s just so awful. 🙄🤦🏻♀️
As a woman who has a "mom heart" and no ability to have bio children...fostering/adopting may happen in the future, I feel sad when parents don't honor the time they have with their children. Also, I lost my mom 4 years ago today...go spend time with your parents too! When the time is gone its gone...love the people you have while you have them. Spend time and love well!!!

Right? I get it, many people with kids have other passions that are super important to them too but the way he’s expressing how much the book means to him is super tone deaf and disheartening…especially like you said when his kids are RIGHT THERE being ignored.
If his book is going to “save the world” why does he need a therapist? Isn’t it ironic that the author of Built for Courage says he sees a scared little boy in himself. Bottom line, he’s not ready to be preaching better lives until he’s living his.

I had not seen this much of his meltdown before, and now see that it was far worse than I expected. Yikes! How does he have multiple children with no idea how to communicate with them. It bothers me how they are simultaneously teaching their children that when the camera’s on they are a prop to make content with but also don’t bother daddy on the phone or at work, like it’s super confusing, but especially for a young child?
At least he made it super easy for their future therapists by recording this. They'll be able to pinpoint and playback the trauma. YIKES
I feel like what Dave got was a reality check.

There’s something so off about immediately following “I love you” with “Do you believe that?” It feels like some sort of sucker punch. Like “Now that you have a warm fuzzy feeling, I want you to question what I just said”. So strange.
Yeah, that interaction didn’t sit well with me either. Not just his words to her, but the theatrics behind it. Just seemed SUPER performative and not an effective way to speak to an irritated 4-year-old.
A little late in life I began to do what you suggested / I no longer do ANYTHING when it feels urgent (save the real urgencies). I don’t send the email/text, say a word, make a face, or even stomp away - no, now the moment the intensity begins I just breathe and stay quiet until it passes. This applies to the good moments too when it feels intense I do NOTHING.
Life is simply much better when you don’t have to clean up messes made by emotional storms.
Also - I think Dave is on adderall.

What gets me about all this, is that Dave never SAYS what he discovered his purpose WAS.
Right?! It's so often the case with this particular Christian message. It's so his purpose can change and basically be whatever he feels like doing at the time. It also works to justify whatever actions he makes as he is "called" to make them. If he was specific he might be able to be held accountable.
I always think about how different his results would have been if he took this video inside and recorded himself making pancakes for his baby.

He should be selling the benefits of the book. I couldn’t tell you how much a James Patterson book costs. When I see an ad and it has a compelling subject, I go looking for it and I’ve already decided to buy the book at that point. That’s when I find the price after I’ve already decided to buy the book. Dave obviously doesn’t see any value on the content of the book so he’s feeding on this imaginary social contract he thinks he has with his followers and is guilting them into buying the book. Then he thinks the only thing holding them back is a price objection so he’s perseverating on the $18 and how little he thinks that is. Meanwhile I’m hearing a pretty high number that he just wants me to give him and feels entitled to me giving him That just makes the $18 seem even more expensive. He doesn’t realize how many hate followers he has who just follow him to hate watch him, not because they actually like him. His RUclips channel is super small, that should tell him something.

I feel bad saying this but my initial reaction was that it seems like he's flailing around trying to put things back together. Not trying to shame him at all, but I do feel concerned about how he's presenting. Just my opinion.

If I was a parent in the public eye, I’d talk about how I raise my children as little as humanly possible. In my experience, parents are the most judgmental community online. My only suggestion for having a problem is don’t be afraid to ask for help from the people who love you. They would rather be inconvenienced when you’re dealing with something than find out you were struggling so much & didn’t trust them enough to reach out. If you think that’s not true, consider how you would feel if you knew a loved one was struggling but didn’t ask for help?
One hundred percent. Parenting is so personal and everyone has their own very strong opinions on it. Also love the suggestion of not being afraid to reach out. Having a close community you can rely on makes life much easier to get through 💛
I appreciate the sympathy that you have in your video! While I don't agree with his actions, I found that a lot of commentators were condemning him for his parenting. While I always want my parents to be the best they can be, in my own life I know my parents have not always been the best. With age, I've come to realize that my parents are people too and made human mistakes.
No parent is perfect. No person is perfect. However most people don't live stream their bad parenting choices. I think that the people on his feed who encouraged him to go take care of his children and the commentators who pointed out the same issue were okay to point it out. He made a choice to make his Instagram followers and haters more important than his children...that was a bad choice it is okay to call it what it is 🤷♀️

Why couldn’t he continue the livestream while he was making pancakes so she didn’t have to go hungry like when kids say they’re hungry you need to feed them that actually really fucks with their bodies and the way they form relationships with food which is already at a disadvantage living in this society where our cultural perception of health is beyond disastrous not to mention kids don’t usually say they’re hungry when they just want food they will say “can I have a snack” but if they say they’re hungry their tummy is growling and hurting them and aside from all aspects of a healthy relationship to food that is dangerous for their body specifically because they are still growing and developing like the consequences of starvation in any human are extreme and lasting and your body does react negatively to being hungry for too long again even setting aside the fact she is a small child who needs fuel to grow properly ughhhhh

Nope. There is NO excuse for treating his kids so dismissively. If you watch the entire live, I think you will see it too.
Also, he’s not a single parent. The kids have a mom, who likely spends more time with the kids than he does.
A single parent is the sole parent for a child- there is no one else. A single parent is 100% responsible for the child- physically, emotionally, and financially. He is not.
