    I feel bad about my comment about this lesson being too hard because I know you’re doing your best. It’s just hard, but I’m not giving up. I’m on day four or so doing a little bit everyday to try to get the next little bit down. I know you do go over anchoring that finger on the third fret in measure six. It’s good that you challenge us. Who said it was going to be easy? Some of what you teach, like the boogie notes, are easy. I’m sure it wasn’t easy for you. You just learned it long ago. Thanks again.

      ALL GOOD!! Keep on showing up for it - Music can humble us when we come across something that our bodies cannot execute or ears cannot hear yet… Remember to use your voice to mimic what you hear… Then see about getting your fingers to do it… You will have to go much slower than you might think but connecting movement slowly and smoothly is the way to learn the quickest… GOING SLOW is the QUICK WAY. I know… I'm a broken record but it really really really works. ;) Music can humble us when we come across something that our bodies cannot execute or ears cannot hear yet… Remember to use your voice to mimic what you hear… Then see about getting your fingers to do it… You will have to go much slower than you might think but connecting movement slowly and smoothly is the way to learn the quickest… And learn in a way that's more relaxing :-)

    Perhaps covered below, Stu....I picked up your score on this and I think that I like your start on the solo better. Can you explain the difference? I concede that they sound similar but I still would like to know, if you don't mind. I am in a Mystery Murder party in early December and my character is going to play Johnny B Goode. No....the victim dies from other causes....

      Hi Brad, I think it's 100% okay to do your own variations on anything learned....I mention this in the video (Pete Seeger's "Folk Process"). That said, you may like to check out a video I JUST POSTED TODAY (the intro riff for "Run Rudolph Run" works well in Johnny B Goode too). Have a blast at your party!

      @@UkuleleZen Thanks for answering! Looks like I was using the right chords, then, I wasn't just 100% sure. I'll definitely take a look on your site, Stu. I had so much fun learning this uke version of Johnny B Goode (all by ear and, of course, by watching your fingers), from the intro solo to the ending section. I'm from Italy and we have to stay home around these parts, there are possible fines if you go out without it being absolutely necessary (motherfu**in virus). So, I have some time on my hands to play both guitar and uke. Funny thing is I've been playing guitar for around 25 years and I've never got around to learn this classic on guitar (I know, a shame). Your vids are excellent, keep up the good work!
      ps: yeah, I know you were using your teeth, a cool Hendrix nod (as well as on the ending). I wouldn't want to do it on my ukulele, though.. I'd feel like if I were abusing my little instrument. And I know that may sound weird, so I'll stop now :)

    Can you improvise with G7 in 3rd position ie. starting on string 4 down to 1; play 4535? I have restricted flexibility in my left wrist and find this 7th easier.

      @UkuleleZen  7 лет назад +1

      Yes, for sure - many players modify the things they want to play so it is easier for them & also because sometimes our own variations sound best :) I mention this in the early section of the video...feel free to "do your own thing". Happy playing, Stu

      Thanks for watching and for your input! I apply Pete Seeger’s “Folk Process” to everything I learn. That is to say that everyone is going to do it a little differently & the variety adds richness to the repertoire of the world. I love how Chuck Berry has alternate lyrics to some of his songs...they seems to function like an “epilogue” or a “where are they now” 😊 He did this with his famous song “Memphis Tennessee”, where the alternate lyrics provide a happy ending to the story of being separated from his family. Be well & play on!

    stuart- the place where that strap button is installed… really? is there any reinforcement?

    • @UkuleleZen
      @UkuleleZen  7 лет назад +1

      The strap button on the neck needs npc reinforcement, but if you put one at the back end of your uke/guitar, then yes a little block of wood is a good idea to have so the screw has something to dig it's "teeth" into. All the best - happy playing, Stu

    I'm thinking you are playing a tenor uke strung with a wound "bottom G"...,or wait, no..., you're not..,I wish more tutorials would explain their tuning before they start...,but that's not a big complaint...,great lesson thanks.

    • @UkuleleZen
      @UkuleleZen  6 лет назад +1

      Good point… I’ll mention something about the tuning I’m playing in the future. The low G set I’m playing in this video is a Fremont Florocarbon low G ukulele strings that awesome set of strings if you like a deep sound...

    • @robertailman5092
      @robertailman5092 6 лет назад

      Thanks for the prompt response. So you are playing a low "G" tuning. I've been curious as to how many really good (as in Pro) players use a low "G"...,and how many of those use a wound string...You've given me some clues, thanks so much. I'm currently working through some jazzy Tin Pan Alley tunes which have a chord-melody quality and dropping the "G" down would really help. Thanks again.

  • @PelczarTomasz
    @PelczarTomasz 9 лет назад

    Outstanding song famous not only thanks of the picture "Back to the Future", within this picture also one same good track by Van Halen had made more then excellent composition ... Within current times Beethoven of our times is Hans Zimmer, Anders Segovia had played one of the best flamenco as possible and movies within Antonio Banderas or Russel Crove are very energetic ... Let's joy of the life ... I would prefer studying at UC Berkeley then play a Holwood movie ...

    • @UkuleleZen
      @UkuleleZen  9 лет назад

      Tomasz Pelczar that scene in "Back to the Future" inspired me to tart playing electric guitar - prior to that I only played classical. That said, I personally think the acoustic vibrations touch the soul in a deeper way...call tithe original technology ;) Anyways, my thoughts...Be well, Stu

    • @PelczarTomasz
      @PelczarTomasz 9 лет назад

      Stuart Fuchs In case of the piano not the worst is Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis and Vangelis etc ... I had read few tabs of the Eric XClapton song and more easy was Wolgang Mozart by Anders Segovia ... On my small opinion Van Halen is sometimes more energetic then Jon Bon Jovie and top 10 best song had been made by quite famous Sting ...

    Not real happy with this one. I get a lot out of your videos and I joined your Patreon site but this one is just too fast and I’m not a beginner. I bought the download and have watched the video many, many times and slowed it down, several degrees. I have to believe that others are having trouble also. Any chance you could redo it a lot slower and put more emphasis into helping with the transitions such as from the end of bar 5 into part 6? And in a way to count the repetitions of bars six, seven, eight and nine?
    Thanks and let me emphasize that I have learned a lot from you and see you as a great teacher but you’re also a really good player and have years of experience and I think you just expect a little too much here. We need help.

    • @UkuleleZen

      Hey Kim, Most of my lessons cast a WIDE net by offering VERY simple concepts - explained in a way that people who are just watching can follow. It's my mission & joy to bring people along with me so they can "get it" on little piece at a time.
      For this lesson of JBG - it's more advanced. It's a "keep up with it" experience. Now - that's not to leave anyone in the dust. But I gotta just play sometimes.
      Just like the old days, transcribe using your ear - and in this case, the visuals too. FYI: I'll be offering more detailed transcriptions of Chuck Berry & other rock n roll guitar in a future e-book (uke-a-billy) pt. 2. All of these are a learning process for me too - as in, how do you get someone to play a rick n roll guitar riff on a ukulele in a way that is authentic?
      Keep on following your ear & it will guide you ;-)
      Thanks for being here Kim - play on Stu
