FYI, there are adding a major platform on the South side of Jamaica,numbers 9&10,they will be used for Brooklyn trains! And,yes,the Third tracking is well in progress. The other line,diverging at Mineola is the Oyster Bay,and it also is a short line,(approximately 15 miles,from Nassau tower,Mineola). I know the line well,as Iived on it! Also commuted to Flatbush Terminal,now Atlantic Terminal! East New York,was a Brooklyn Rapid Transit stop,and the Long Island had several cross connections with the BRT,during the early 1900's. That's a bit of,now overlooked history,but should be fun to look up! Thanks for covering some of my old territory,as I also went to a station beyond Huntington,regularly!
The goal is to add a third track to the main line because of how congested it gets. There are currently only two tracks so if a train breaks down for some reason, it turns into a disaster as trains can only use one track

There's a subtle difference between the locomotives that pull the double deckers on the LIRR The DE30AC (diesel only) numbers start with 4 The DM30AC (diesel and electric) numbers start with 5 Both were made by EMD in the late 90s, specifically for the LIRR, as were those double deckers (the Kawasaki C3s). NJT's double deckers (the Bombardier MultiLevels) are also used on Maryland's (MARC) and Montreal's (Exo) commuter rail systems.

Well all trains except the Port Washington and penn-Jamaica shuttle have trains that come out of Atlantic terminal. But that is during rush hours. Like you said only Hempstead and far Rockaway trains depart at off peak hours.
I love riding the top level because of the views and lower level is fun to ride too and Jamaica station was quite built like that but they are adding track #9 and 10 to reduce some delays during rush hours.
And they are also building a 3rd track project because the Mainline branch (Ronkonkoma, (KO)/Port Jefferson (PJF) cause so many delays and eliminated all 7 crossings and double decker announcements sometimes works automatically if you are lucky to catch it.
@31:10 they're building an elevator and overpass for people who can't miss the train, they might do that to Westbury, Merillon Ave and New Hyde Park. Floral Park, Bellrose, Queens Village and Hollis is on the Hempstead branch and Far Rockaway branch goes to Atlantic terminal Brooklyn and back to Queens via the (A) line and Morrison park west of Jamaica is where the Diesel double decker trains park.
Gogosuprtoe I have a suggestion why don’t you take metro north to Bridgeport from grand central and then take the Bridgeport port Jefferson ferry to port Jefferson and then take lirr to Atlantic

I know If you didn’t know from floral Park to Hicksville they are building a third track on the main line on the LIRR right now Supertoe!

@RA1NMAN Long Beach, West Hempstead, Babylon, Huntington, and Ronkonkoma trains run out of Atlantic Terminal but at less frequency.
