I think it's awesome that your family shows up in your videos. It gives them a very REAL quality, which is one of your strongest features and sets you apart from other RUclipsrs that don't get taken seriously.

I love how there are a number of people milling about in the background, and none pay the slightest attention to the guy making a video right in the middle of the room. "Oh, yeah, Josh is doing that thing again. Whatevs."

It surprised me that people still use underarm crutches. I guess its different in the US to the UK since I have never seen anyone use them here, so I always assumed that forearm ones were the replacement for them ridiculously big things.

I am glad I found your videos Josh. I have Cerebral Palsy since birth and I have always used the forearm cruthes, I tried the underarm crutches once in my life, didn't like them at all

I wish I had seen this when I was hobbling around pre and post knee surgery. It seems to me like forearm crutches would be much easier to relearn how to walk on.

I miss the good ole days of RUclips. 14 years later, most of the world is using forearm crutches and US is still using axillary crutches.

In the uk I have never seen anyone with underarm crutches it just looks so old fashioned and bulky, even when you have a short term injury here they will give you forearm crutches

I have to use platform crutches (due to severe arthritis in my hands - can't bare weight on them) which have pluses and minuses. I can carry stuff with handles (you should see me struggle up the steps of my apartment building with 4 grocery bags hanging on either arm/crutch - not for the faint of heart). But in terms of the aesthetics....ugh. Capital H. I'm going to check out Thomas Fetterman. Thanks for the tip(s)!
I love, love, love your videos, Josh. You rock!

I just got mine (bad knee) - nice Drive 10403 model from medical supply - and yes they are the best way to go.
But there is an issue: for my hand, the handle needs to be angled down so I can get my entire palm on it - otherwise I'm only using 1/2 my hand for weigh bearing. Nearly every crutch model out there has the handles at right angles to the leg. I'm surprised this issue is basically ignored.

I have a question. I am 36 and am finding it harder and harder to walk. My body is covered with osteoarthritis from my feet up. What type of walking aid will be best for me so I can stay mobile and out of a wheelchair longer?

    Left AKA here.
I use underarm crutches that are fitted with a special pouch, underarm cushions, and grip cushions because I live alone and have to carry things for myself /all the time/.
I'd like to use forearm crutches, but function is more important to me than form, and I think "looking like a invalid" is worth the ease.
Just keep in mind that everyone's situation is different. Otherwise, great vid.

Im an Amputee using underarm crutches but how do you use your phone or using wallet when standing and keeping the crutches from falling and yourself balance at the same time?Im using underarm because i can use my armpit squeeze the crutches to keep myself balance while I need to do something or make payment with my hands. Thanks

I think forearm or underarm crutches same good. Can be beautiful crutching with Both. But crutches VS prosthetis?!

  • @NBSTL68

Nice quick review. thanks I've heard for those never using crutches before, like myself, forearm crutches may be harder to learn, (need more muscle development).
My need is temporary for maybe a month or two for a hip labrum repair surgery which will require I am totally non-weight bearing on one leg.
Would forearm crutches still be considered a better choice as a new non-crutch user?
