    According to the Coffee Lake diagram and the Intel Datasheet, it looks like that pin is either the VIDSCK or VSS_SENSE pin. Both are power / voltage management. It makes sense since the top left of these sockets are all power management related, so yeah it makes sense this is happening.

    • @EinhanderSn0m4n

      @@EinhanderSn0m4n The pin was folded over the wrong way, it was probably contacting one, or more, of the other pins, that will definitely cause problems.
      It would be interesting to see how the board behaves now that the pin has been removed completely.

    • @shaneeslick
      @shaneeslick 2 года назад +12

      So if that pin was touching another + or - when folded back it would be creating a problem for the CPU or a Short, Bad either way,
      🤔the Motherboard should work again without that pin as for each circuit there is usually more than 1 pin

    • @jarsky
      @jarsky 2 года назад +26

      @@shaneeslick I dont think its shorting. All the pins in that corner are essential for this CPU, I think the lack of it means the CPU cant regulate the power therefor it initiates the power off.

    Congrats on the first season, enjoyed every minute. With this problem I ran into this same issue over the summer. While I was away from my apartment, a thunderstorm struck and fried my motherboard. It had to go through my modem (fried) to my router (fried), to my ethernet port, all of which is now run through a ethernet surge protector. I returned home to see my PC flashing in the same way. Luckily I had spares to troubleshoot with, but I'd have been screwed had I not. This is a great service you're doing for people and I hope you can keep it going for a long time.

      @@GregSalazar hey. i really enjoyed the whole playlist, it's really nice to see stuff like this (logical and methodical troubleshooting). i've been doing this for the roughly past 20 years for family and friends and others. one question though - why don't you use a speaker for the systems that don't show anything on screen. sure some have some fancy LEDs or stuff, but you can get so much for some simple beeps: for example: 1 short beep means usually stuff is fine and you just don't have image, no beep at all usually means cpu has an issue, long beeps and short beeps are for GPU and RAM issues (never seem to remember which is which but can google and usually manufacturers stick to same for newer boards also). and a small tip on cleaning: you can get a small / portable air compressor for better cleaning without taking stuff apart (ex radiators under fans) and you can use it in your garage.

Mine had a short somewhere, but tracking a motherboard short is a nightmare. I had been through so much troubleshooting, and I'll tell you what, NOBODY I knew or called had any clue what I meant. One time I wanted to change my thermal paste because I thought the pre-applied stuff that was on my AIO wasn't working very well. When I went to pull the cooler off the CPU, I pulled straight up rather than twisting first, and it and ripped the cpu right out of the socket. I then proceeded to clean everything up and act like that was normal and then I placed the cpu back into the socket. Everything seemed fine until I went to re-mount the AIO to the cpu, I noticed that it wouldn't sit flush no matter what I did. I ended up pulling the CPU and looking at the pins... sure enough when I ripped it out of the socket I damn near bent an ENTIRE row of pins. I then proceeded to have a mini freak out, calmed down, then grabbed a razor blade. Luckily with some concentration and patience, I was able to bend the pins back and get the cpu working again, and that Ryzen 5 3600 is still kickin it to this day!

      Yeah, it wouldn't have helped here. As explained in the video, the pin was so far bent that it compromised the material by thinning it out. Even with a microscope and optimal precision, the pin still would have snapped.

    You are my most favorite tech youtuber as not only are you informative, but your passion for mainting and preserving systems is what makes you enjoyable. I have been watching you for over 3 years and will continue watching.

    I hope you guys will do a second season of this type of series, I found this in my recommendations and subbed after watching one and continued to watch the rest. It is very educational and entertaining and not something I've really seen on any of my other tech channels. Thank you for the episodes!
    Edit: just finished the video and heard there is a season 2 coming, cheers!

    I would love to do something like this in my local area as I used to build and repair PCs for a living. I do help folks often, but this method you employ is brilliant.

    Congrats on a great first season, and again, thank you for the help earlier with the video that had the CPU with the bad memory controller. I was able to rebuild that SFF PC and turn it into a great rig to take on the road with me. (5600g and a 3060Ti). Love your videos.

    What I really like about the series, and the PCDC series, is just seeing other people's builds. It's interesting because there are so many different configurations of hardware and it's nice to see some of them here on full display inside and out. I like the troubleshooting process as well; the process of elimination, isolating hardware, swapping in components and learning what each one does and how it could affect the PC. Great series and I always look forward to each new video.

    Hi Greg, I am looking forward to the second season of "fix or flop". I've been building and fixing PCs for many years, yet it's interesting to me how another person approaches problems and besides, we never stop learning. 😉
    I like your videos - keep up the good work. 👍

    I absolutely love your videos. The format is easy to get through and entertaining. Watching these videos inspired me to pull out my desktop that has been dead for a year and fix it. Initially thought it was a dead PSU, but turned out to be a dead Motherboard. So... It gave me an excuse to spend a ton of money on a new motherboard and processor.

    Great video, thank you! If I may add my two cents, using the magnifier of an iPhone and a sharp utility knife is what helps me deal with bent pins. Inserting the blade of the knife between the pins is what makes realignment of the bent pin an easy task. Happy holidays dear Greg, I stay tuned for Season 2 with excitement!

    Ive been watching you for probably less than a year now BUT I love the attitude you have and the way you go through the process of your fixes. I was a little surprised with this one that you didnt check the cpu and mounting pressure of the cpu cooler as that while watching was my guess as you worked through this issue. I was thinking of one of your vids a few months ago where that caused a weird issue. Im not tech savi and dont have a fraction of the knowledge that you do BUT I love guessing all the way through your videos in the hope that at the end I might get the answer right before you lol. PS It has not happened yet : ) x Love your channel x

    I've been enjoying this series, just the suspense in seeing what's needed to fix the subject PC. This series is also helps you stand out from the other techtubers who seem to show the same type of content (which doesn't stop me watching them as well). I look forward to see what season 2 offers in the Fix or Flop Series.

    I honestly initially just subscribed because of the NZXT giveaway. But now I’ve binged and finished Season 1. I have learned a lot for the PC build I’m doing for my son and for possible troubleshooting in the future. This is one subscription I do not at all regret.
