Jen’s Song from The Dark Crystal on Double Recorder

In the 1982 film, The Dark Crystal, the lead character, a gelfling named Jen, plays a haunting tune on a Y-shaped double recorder. Of course this was simulated by other instruments in the movie soundtrack, but many enthusiasts can be found on RUclips attempting to render the piece on real double instruments. My rendition probably comes closest, as my double recorder is capable of playing both melody and harmony exactly as in the movie, using the full range of notes on both pipes. It is pleasing to find that music composed for a fictional instrument actually suits the real instrument perfectly, and sounds excellent on it. I play the tune three times in this video.

Very interesting fact: I watched the Dark Crystal for the umpteenth time last week and realised I knew this tune from somewhere else. Think, think, think, and then it dawned on me: Brassed Off (the movie) a tune in the soundtrack called A Sad Old Day. Totally identical, and the composer? Trevor Jones! Sly old fox. Can't blame him though, it's a brilliant melody.

Wow. I could not figure it out yet on this. However the next closest is the harmony Ocarina by Charlie Hind. He has this song written for it. And it was not a fictional instrument, it was actually the English double Flageolet.
