The Dark Crystal (1982) is my favourite movie and soundtrack of all time. I am now a musician and I am forever grateful to the magic JIM HENSON created for the children of my generation. This is a fan tribute, a cover of cover of "Gelfling Song" from THE DARK CRYSTAL original movie score performed by myself singing and with a double Ocarina. We also recorded all the critters and audio sound FX ourselves. Recorded in Navarre, 2019.

This cover touched me right in the feelings. During the month my dad started to lose his battle against cancer I developed an obsession with Trevor Morris’ original creation for the Dark Crystal. I remember going to work and listening to this specific tune for hours and hours while trying to keep focused in doing my job right. Then I would spend the entire night looking after my dad and crying uncontrollably while he was asleep. The melody would keep playing in the back of my head. I guess I felt related to the sense of loss and solitude it transmits. When my dad passed away I never really went back to the album, until this day, when I found this. I want to say thank you. I was afraid I would feel sad, but no, I felt at peace and with warmth in my heart. Thanks again.
Thanks so much for sharing your experience, it makes this little tribute even more meaningful to know it reached and soothed someone. I love Trevor Jones original score for the movie, in fact it was the album that made me want to become a composer myself. Also Kira, as a character could communicate with animals because she was all empathy, she could feel and listen and be aware of those around her. Awww I'm glad you think that way, for me The Dark Crystal always recalls my childhood, I even forced my friends to watch the movie if they didn't know it, and had some merchandising and memorabilia bought back in the day. I'm a total Henson works fan, love most of his works, but this movie is my favourite, the score was a great influence on my own works as musician and I'll be grateful always.

Especially in the dark times, Kira knew that, she was an empathetic and could communicate with all living things around here, but I'm really happy you find it soothing.

Awww pues si te ha hecho ver la película original ya para mí misión cumplida, la música de esta película hizo que de pequeña quisiera hacer música de fantasía, y de hecho ya sabes que en el canal también tengo mis temas originales, pero ahora que la has visto y a pesar de ser una película para niños verás que su mensaje es el de equilibrio, la luz y la oscuridad separadas son parte de un todo para ser completo. Creo que es un mensaje muy poderoso. Imagínate esta película a principios de los ochenta, si es que más de treinta años después sigue siendo una obra de arte.

Aww thanks, It is actually a little secret pond I often bathe in Summer, I always say it looks like belonging to The Dark Crystal, I tried to do close ups of the critters, because I believe some of them at close look look so belonging there. Thanks for the compliment, it was fun, double ocarina is not easy to play (I play many winds but this one is tricky) I used a zoom portable recorder to record the frogs, crickets, even small splashes of water, the soundscape part was soooo fun to recreate.

Aww you are so sweet, the cosplay was mostly improvised with what I had at home, just wanted to evoke the film. Some people told me they are watching it for the first time cos I recommended to do so and this made me utterly happy!!!!!

As a child it taught me lots of things about balance. I even named my dog Kira. It's a rewatch for me each couple of years and I still keep some eighties goodies since a child. I am a big fan of the original Dark Crystal movie, I think the series was rather respectful to the universe, though nothing can come close for me to the original movie. Still I would have loved to see how the story continued but it was cancelled and cut short so we won't know.

Everything about this is beautiful, but how did you capture such amazing clear, closeup footage of all those many critters?
The woodlice was a pet, there's a hidden rat that was my pet too. The rest with patience, and the moth I live in an area where Spanish Lunas hatch from May to June, so I filmed some footage of it. :) it's all about the details, I honestly don't have a fancy camera.

It us my fav movie (and Henson classics) growing in the 80s. I tried to rennact but in a way Earth echoes Thra because what I love from the movie is that is all alien but also earthy. There are actually four dark crystal tributes in the channel because "i am a fan" 😂

@@olgasanchez4532 Casi todo mi canal es mi música original pero también hago versiones de cosas de fantasía o temas que me inspiraron o fueron influencias de pequeña, esta es una película de 1982 que para mí sigue siendo mi favorita, el año pasado Netflix sacó una serie precuela ya moderna, pero primero toca ver la antigua :) hay que verlo con los ojos de un proyecto que tardó años en hacerse sin los medios de ahora, y aún así para mí, la música, insuperable
