I turned 9 in 2002. Started 4th grade. Went on a Disney Cruise that August. One other thing that was memorable about that year, too, was that my aunt was in between the hospital and nursing home that whole year due to complications from an incurable disease. We lost her in January the next year. The Disney Cruise was her last vacation. She was a woman who enjoyed traveling, so I'm glad the doctors at the nursing home granted her permission to go on that trip.

What I really appreciate about the redbirds is the presence of individual handles as opposed to just a long handlebar to hold onto. These handles encouraged more people to step towards the centre of the car, something which New Yorkers today can't seem to figure out how to do.

Retractable grab holds. I always preferred a pole. If you are shorter than about 5 foot 6 the grab holds were almost unreachable.

Since I was born in 1997, three types of subway cars had dominated the IRT Flushing Line. First the Redbirds (R33WF & R36WF), then the R62As and now the R188s. I still love the old SMEE trains, but the NTT trains eh, they are okay. I really do not like the NTT trains a bit but I really do not hate them. The only thing that the NTT trains they can be equipped with CBTC, and the IRT Flushing Line is one of them. Plus I love the New York Mets paint scheme on one of the Redbirds, I love all the MLB Teams, but the New York Mets & New York Yankees are my favorites because I’m from NYC and I want the Mets and Yankees to win. So I’m a Mets and Yankees fan because I’m a true New Yorker.

Awesome! I’ll never forget the first and only time I rode the R33/R36 (7) train with my family when I was a young child. I was either 2 or 3 at that time. The R62As too, they are legendary and have been a very integrative factor of my childhood being something to appreciate and love, although it has its own flaws LOL

The transit museum will be running the redbird train in early November. Why not come out and see it go by on the Lexington Avenue line? When I was your age I loved trains. I missed the last year of operation of the Third Avenue El (Bronx) because I did not know what it was or that it was about to close. Had I asked my father to take me there he would have gladly.
