I don't think it's good marketing vs. bad marketing. Toho caters to depth in their Godzilla movies. they're sacred pieces of art. We can pretty much tell what the story for Minus 1 is going to be in just a teaser for a trailer with no dialogue, unless you count the radio voices. The Monsterverse for WB/Legendary is a blockbuster-type franchise that has to lure in the general movie goer by splashing "big stuff/blow up" scenes and one-liners. "Kong bows down to no one", "long live the king", "let them fight" etc. Imagine if Legendary/WB had to promote a movie using just Godzilla in a trailer and not revealing if any other titans are in the movie? It could not be accomplished. Toho is "make a good movie first, and trust people will like it". Legendary/WB is "get them into the theater however you can".
I love Toho and I love Monsterverse
Americans Monsterverse is doing the more fantastically action hero route like with Godzilla of the Showa era.
Toho is doing the more serious destroyer route and making Godzilla in unique ways like with Shin Godzilla, Godzilla Earth and Godzilla Ultima.
It's the best of both worlds for me.
I couldn't agree with you more as a fan of myself I enjoy both the monsterverse and this new upcoming movie
Agreed.
The MonsterVerse can be its own thing while Toho does THEIR own thing.
I could never agree more than you, a perfect balance, toho as well as lagendary has already made serious and heavy films (2014 and 1954), as they have also made more epic and heroic films (showa, hensei, milenion, monsterverse, etc. )
Take notes, WB and DC
They have their own identities and I love it. I have to wonder if this is why Toho is being more experimental.
6:25 You are very right about Toho being very smart about marketing. Warner and Legendary basically show us everything bc people just want to see the monsters and when you have a movie that has more human screen time, it's gonna be harder to sell unless you have humans that people will actually like. I also love how Toho did a livestream announcement. I'm not sure if other companies do that but I love how they did that, especially with a 1 day waiting period instead of a whole week wait.
It's more because the Japanese go for mood and atmosphere while the US goes for shock and awe. That's the wrong way to market a movie.
It is not normal for films to have trailer premieres. Minus One is very special!
It makes me think of how effective the marketing was for Godzilla 1998. Say what you want about the quality of the movie, but the marketing was really effective. "Size matters!" was an effective tagline, meanwhile they gave us enough almost glimpses of the monster to whet our appetites.
@@richdurbin6146 YEP The marketing was good the 98 Godzilla movie
GvK only had 2 trailers. The one that released January 2021 and the Salvation trailer later on prior to the film's release. Japan usually overdo it with trailers by showing us everything. Take Dragon Ball for example. TOEI will show multiple trailers and TV spots revealing the whole movie before the film releases. The only exception to this was their latest Super Hero movie. Japan seems to be making a slight change on how they want to market films without giving away everything.
Godzilla also has like one competitor in japan in his genre.
In america theres a lot more competition.
I feel like Legendary is trying to be the modern version of thw showa era, with lots of cool monsters and fun goofy action. And as someone who grew up with the more goofy movies, I've always loved the Monsterverse
I dont think Legendary should do what Toho is doing. Because they need to be their own separate thing. Not every Godzilla movie needs to be a dark commentary.
exactly, and toho has already made a lot or more movies like lagendary is currently doing, than the other way around
@@Still.the.best.2021 And for all we know Legendary could have learned from their marketing mistakes
I agree. I just think they need to change the marketing for the films.
@@Bobzilla2023 For sure! Kotms marketing was just terrible. Especially with how amazing the first trailer was.
@@brickosaurus2276 no it's just KoTM was released in the same year where BIG movies is also released like 2019 we have what? Avengers Endgame?!? And obviously more movies that's just too good to be compared with KoTM so people feel that KoTM is bad due to having too much Masterpiece films in the same year. Like KoTM isn't a bad film, it's just good but expectations was too high and that's what killed the film( everyone think that movie is gonna be superior to G2014)....oh and also the case of some of the casual Toho fans (MV haters) who will always find a way to criticize those films so badly like it's freaking Morbius or something
After that trailer this is probably gonna to be my most anticipated movie of the year. Already it’s just look amazing and absolutely loving the tone of the film as well. When that guy said “that monster will never forgive us legit sent chills down my spine”
After watching it all I’m going to say is Minus 1 won’t disappoint. That and the director made a point he’s going to make this scary as f@&$!
That roar at the end looked like hell spawn
That and Godzilla is not going to hold back the king is going 💯 Savage this time around
@@ezilla11B I wouldn't say "king" with this Godzilla. This one is more like "I am on bloodthirsty rampage let me kill all the humans and reduce everything to rumble. I will annihilate anyone who stands in my way."
I have not seen the trailer, but hearing what you guys have to say, I am so hyped!
@@Flash-FireCC Godzilla is still the king even if he is going on a bloodthirsty rampage.
Godzilla 2014 definitely did it right with its marketing. Godzilla was almost never shown directly in the trailers (excluding the dusty head shot and roar at the end), leaving that air of mystery and interest people would have seeing it. I know I was hyped to see what Godzilla would look like and if any other monsters would be featured once the movie released.
@alphadragonwolfwarrior6373.... Godzilla was hardly in the movie at all .... They tried to hard to make the humans interesting . . Also the editing was horrible they would cut away in the middle of a fight scene 2014 is not a good Godzilla movie
@@williamwilkinson6665Yeah, it may have had its flaws, but GvK was honestly just as bad.
@@Winter_Sniper_818GvK was WAY better. Maybe you didn’t like the characters but everything else was great.
@@williamwilkinson6665your entitled to your opinion and I’m not here to change it but I will say the fact Godzilla was barely ever shown to me gave him this godlike otherworldly presence something that had so much importance to the universe which made me love the film but I can also understand your pov I guess it just depends on the person🤷🏻♂️
As someone who is a fan of Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom. I think the main reason people dont like that film was because of how they just revealed EVERYTHING in the trailers.
When the GxK trailer finally releases, I hope it still keeps to the same tone of the title reveal.
My problem with Fallen Kingdom is that they don't understand genetics, money, or warfare. The pointing a gun at someone and having a dinosaur attack them instead of just putting a bullet in their brain is the dumbest thing I've ever seen. Until they let a small child unleash a small zoo of dinos to kill and maim an unsuspecting population.
And somehow that small zoo spread dinosaurs to the entire planet instead of the US Army immediately gunning them down. Even if left alone there weren't enough to become a sustainable population and would have died out in time.
That's why I dislike FK. Dominion was better-ish. But the writers are clearly playing with ideas they don't understand.
I like when trailers don’t reveal much and only leave enough breadcrumbs for me to theorize about. I love it when I have a theory, a prediction of how the movie is gonna go, and then I watch the movie, it turns out I was completely wrong, I love being SURPRISED.
Movie trailers need to make me want to find out what happens, not show me what happens, not spoil the money shots.
I agree. It’s honestly refreshing to have a trailer that doesn’t give away the entire plot of the film
@@Nightlizard1564 IDK about that tho, like modern hollywood usually HAVE to make sure they at least show some interesting thing happening in the trailers for people to speculate and theorize more about the movie, we can see this like in most modern blockbuster films like the Marvel films, DCEU, Star Wars, Transformers whatever more film. They must leave something (important)interesting for the people who watched the film actually go to the cinema and watch it bcuz of HYPE. I get what his point is of not showing much in the trailers for lower expectations=higher feelings when Actually watching the film (since the Toho fans just sometimes take it too far when criticizing both of the MV Godzilla films...).
I just don't think it would work for the American movies but we got something similar in Godzilla X Kong trailer tho!, little to nothing was shown in the teaser
Just watched Minus One, Legendary definitely can learn from Toho, I think the reason why Legendary did what it did bc they thought that it’s audience would be pumped up with dopamine from all the action that it’ll bring folks in to watch the movie anyways. So far I think Toho does most of its marketing better…though I don’t consider Toho to be 100% smart.
Did y'all see the new Minus One trailer? Looks freaking intense!!! Also apologies if any offensive comments popped up in my name. I was hacked...😢😢😢
Sorry to her that but yeah it looked spectacular.
Maybe Legendary's marketing could hold back a little more, but they sure as hell put butts in the seats when Godzilla vs Kong hit theaters.
Well, there was a lot of things helping that movie out. I wonder if they spoil all the stuff in this new film if it can be done again.
Keep in mind we still don't know much about this upcoming legendary pictures movie is still shrouded in mystery which is a good thing in my opinion
@@animezilla4486 we know EVERYTHING about it.

Man minus one looking sick with that trailer looking to be one of the hardest godzilla films
I hope toho sticks with this timeline. Long time since Japanese Godzilla had a consistent timelines
The only time Godzilla was sorta-kinda consistent was the heisei films. The Showa movies accepted that there were movies before them, but if they needed something to happen, they would throw continuity in the dustbin. The worst offender being powerlines and how much of a deterrent they were to G.
The trailer was a banger can't wait till December 1st to see it in theaters
That trailer was amazing
I'm gonna be honest I was turned off by the humans in the trailer but that's just something I need to force myself to get used to 👍. I'm mostly okay with Legendary trailers showing the humans but that's because they do trailers differently in America.
Also damn Dman you were right on the nose with those predictions.
Glad to hear my dreams are coming true! lol
1:32 you were legit spot on
That's what I like to hear!
@@DMan1954 HAHA dude you’re going to love this man.
Quote me on this (if you want to, you don’t have to you’re too busy):
This film is going to be to be to Godzilla what the 2005 remake was to King Kong.
An epic masterpiece by a visionary director who wanted to honor the original films while also expanding upon it’s themes in scary, heavy, and awe-inspiring ways.
That’s my quote, anyways thank you for replying to me man. God Bless you and I hope you can take it easy sometime in the future man. You deserve it.
That shirt is dope!
The first teaser for G 2014 is probably my favorite teaser trailer, full stop. It built tension and gave away almost nothing.
Godzilla marketing peaked on that day
movie looks 🔥
No.
The MonsterVerse needs to stand on its own.
I prefer to have two continuities with different approaches to Godzilla.
You have Toho which presents Godzilla as the destroyer while Legendary has Godzilla and Kong as the anti-heroes going up against threats too big for humanity to handle.
Oh, BTW, Dman, Yamazaki has stated he likes the MonsterVerse movies, sooo...
Shhh don't say, don't you see that this is a "Western film makers need to learn from those perfect Japanese film makers"
I’m so confused. Did either of you guys actually watch the video? Cause I’m not talking about the portrayal of Godzilla or approach to the films at all
@@yonsetv5223I mean that statement is true it just isn't for the monsterverse currently
@@yonsetv5223
Godzilla's Revenge is regarded as the worst of the Showa Godzilla movies.
City on the Edge of Battle is regarded as the worst Reiwa movie.
GVSG is regarded as the worst Heisei movie.
GVM is regarded as the worst Millennium movie.
What's your point?
Japanese film makers aren't perfect. They have made some lesser films. How is this any different than American film makers?
@@DMan1954 Some people just read the title and act like they watched the video lol.
I would love if they introduced Destroyah in the Legendary universe
Me too I will also like to see Gamera
it gets a lot of flak but I won't mind seeing Dessie again...or Bagan
Monsterverse is the remake of Toho's Showa Godzilla movies from 1960 to 70's.
That first GvK trailer was HYPE as Hell though.
I wonder, how would they market GxK? would it be like the title reveal trailer where it's a bit mysterious but also a bit threatening or like a "looming threat or impending doom" vibe (basically another spin of 2014 Godzilla marketing tone) or would they actually reveal the film's true tone (where it's super wacky and super sci-fi action packed madness to the core?)
What if the goofy, wacky vibes of GxK is actually the "20% part of the so-called leaks that is bullshit" (don't quote me of that, I don't even remember if KDM or who else said that since it's so long ago lol) and it's actually a serious film after all?? Not that the tone of the movie itself should be of concerned (since the Monsterverse embraced the Showa/latter half of Heisei vibe) but we'll wait and see...
All we know is that Legendary/WB effed up again by not being so chained-lock with the information of the film from test screenings and BTS and responded really late. I feel like leak culture in American cinema is normalized now and I am starting to wonder if the leaks are intentional "meta marketing tactics" like Sony did with Spiderman No Way Home leaks aka the 4k Andrew Garfield leaked BTS image. You think this deserves another discussion video about the Hollywood leak culture D-Man?
just wanted to add on the Sony part that in the Brazil No Way Home trailer, they deliberately left out an "invisible" force that kicked the Lizard's head to the side and it later revealed in the film to be Tobey Maguire's Spidey. lol
Honestly im more hyped for minus one than i ever was for any mv film. I always wanted a darker godzilla film, kinda like the original 1954. And thats what toho is doing and im incredibly happy about that. Besides i favor toho over legendary 😂
As a fan of myself I like both Toho and legendary pictures films they both did a good job wouldn't comes to Godzilla
@@animezilla4486 yeah, i just grew up with the toho era. Not saying legendary was bad, 2014 was beautiful and pictured godzilla amazingly. But toho just is better imo

@@yonsetv5223 thats your opinion, my opinion is that toho did godzilla way better than legendary.
in my case both are well done in their own way
I mean I'm really excited for Godzilla minus one, but the monsterverse is also awesome.
They learned from what was good about 2014 Godzilla and how thrilling it was when he was being introduced but just didn’t get enough screen time
Patience made it happen for them and it is very well promising
The trailer is #4 in trending!
Man, I can't wait for your actual reaction, I know you're gonna be happier than you thought with it! -- though disappointed in a few points.
I'm probably an outlier, but I'm fine with both spoilers and non spoilers in marketing. I love seeing and hearing more information for a godzilla film because it makes me wanna see it more, but mystery is great too because its make me want more as well, but that's just me.
Less is more for marketing ad success. That's what make movies gain to be successful.
To me I love more Godzilla scene because who doesn't love seeing building size larger than life mayhem.
The fact that Godzilla has some sort of vengeance against society is what’s so much more cool and scary about this
Being perfectly honest, GXK has to do something spectacular with its very first trailer if it hopes to be a success. The only reason GVK was a success is because of the hype surrounding it and the rematch of the Kings. GXK will _never_ see that level of hype, so unless they pull a miracle, GXK is going to flop harder than KOTM.
Which is why they have to be so much smarter about their advertising. KOTM felt like a must see at SDCC 2018, but an over extended and bloated ad campaign mixed with a crammed summer release season led to the film not feeling like an event. That’s what they need to fix. The SDCC18 trailer had mystery and gravitas and wonder. That all went out the window with trailer 2.
@@DMan1954
Well, GXK certainly ain’t a must see for the average moviegoer at the moment, even with the trailer that came with the Title Drop… Not a good sign…
I only watch the 1st trailer and that's it on all monsterverse movies and it's great
The 2nd trailer is soo crazy holy sh*t
People hear in Australia have scene the trailer and like it my friends have seen it without me showing them I was surprised
They do show a bit more godzilla in this trailer. not enough to say its repetitive; but i will say that there is one shot of him that might give a little too much away. Im not going to say what it is because you haven't seen it yet. But i think you'll know which shot im talking about when you watch it.
Is all i can say is... its great to finally see a movie with the same chaoticly doomed vibes that 1954 had!
Thank god, because the films coming out lately (in my honest opinion) haven't been so smart or story oriented.
Hope you like the trailer, i know i did!
Are you talking about the shot at the end?
@brickosaurus2276 Yeah, it doesn't nessisarily give anything away. Yet, knowing godzilla's past, im pretty sure I have a good idea of what's happening. But I'm not complaining. it looks like one hell of a movie so far, and I can't wait to see it!
I kinda want them to make a trailer where they barely show Godzilla kinda like 1998 which I have to admit the way they haven’t shown what he looks like until the movie premiere was a bit cleaver to keep the hype going even to go as far as to show toy box’s that shows hints of the spines and other random part of Godzilla that shows a bit of hint of what he looks like
With KOTM i was so excited that I couldn't help but watch all of the advertisement and read the plot leaks, which was my biggest mistake. I do think that WB needs to get better with their advertisement, however I know that it's also up to me to not watch every little thing that they post.
The mystery I'm a big fan of in trailers leave us guessing
Hi D Man1954 i watch the trailer
This Godzilla film is giving me what I always wanted in a Godzilla films for a long time was going back to Godzilla's roots of being a force of nature. I've feel like that's been missing since 2016's Shin Godzilla. Hopefully this movie will wash the Godzilla Vs Kong. That is my least favorite Godzilla film where I was just so disappointed.
but the monsterverse Godzilla is also a force of nature, people who see it wrong
Yeah GvK only shit MV movie, only great action that's it
It's out
the Japanese understand that Godzilla and the kaiju are the stars of the films. Humans are there to supplement the kaiju plot. Say what you want about the Monsterverse advertising but I think the marketeers do it because they see all the extra human crap that the Monsterverse keeps loading into these movies that annoy audiences.
I feel like it is absolutely the other way around. lol
@@DMan1954Not really
Your literally describing every Godzilla movie
like come on man lets be honest how much screen time godzilla had in shin godzilla?
I think the reason why legendary and WB spoil so much is because they think they have to compete with other films and thus try and overplay their hand so to speak to get mainstream audiences interested.
And they about themselves in the foot as a result
I disagree Wumps, marketing it smart would make a big difference.
@@joshuam.6027 oh yeah I absolutely agree but I personally feel like legendary over play themselves to make their movies more appealing for the largest audience possible.
@@Wumpa_Goji I mean, Toho is by their side always from a business perspective, who knows, it might change.
Trailer dropped watched it, looks like definitely going to be better than Shin Godzilla it's like ShinG but 10x the emotion from what I'm getting from the trailer
In my opinion i love toho's marketing strategy. I love how they reveal things a bit one by one just to get us figure it out what happened. It's the buildup on excitement and mystery that will get you to watch a Toho Godzilla film. For the Monsterverse I'm mix on that one. I surprisingly didn't enjoy the GVK film, A lot of ideas could have been saved for a next movie instead of Is shoving it into one movie. The fight scenes weren't good and the dialog can sometimes be weird and embarrassing, I also don't like how godzilla felt like a side character, Overall it's a fine film just not for me. I hope you can understand as an old time Godzilla fan you're gonna encounter some movies you're not gonna like even if it features your favorite kaiju
we already have minus one designs otherwise all your point are valid
I don't think one is better than the other, think about this for the longest time godzilla toho movies shifted to him being a hero/antihero with the occasional evil role but the foundation of the character was built on horror and real life events while our version of the same film didn't touch on those topics, the recent Hollywood films capitalize on the hero/antihero role because that's the aspect that made him popular over here in the states while the reason he's popular in Japan is on a deeper level hence why the tone of these recent toho films callback to its grounded nuclear roots. We're doing what made him popular here while they're doing what made him popular over there both existing like yin and yang I personally dig it cause i get a fix for both sides of the big G
tfw shimu and mg21 could’ve been a surprise yet legendary somehow managed to let their hidden kaiju get leaked two fucking times in a row
I would love to see two Godzillas fight each other or is it a matimg ritual
This is less a Monsterverse problem and more of an Hollywood problem. Shin Godzilla and Godzilla minus 1 are the only movies and trailers where I actually want to watch the movie and not go oh...I guess...maybe I won't watch since they basically showed everything it makes me not want to watch the movie.
That is one amazing thing about G1998 is the marketing and trailers where they hide Godzilla until the movie was out.
I think ur right ToHo isnreally great on advertisement I think GxK when it releases its first trailer I think I'll only watch that and nothing else cause it kind of is annoying to get the full movie in one trailer or multiple other advertisements I mean I like it but at the same time it is soo tiring to have this happen in GKOTM and GvK go back to wat happened in 2014 but this time release only one trailer and thats it like maybe thats it soo u dont ruin it like always.
Can you make a video when the godzilla new empire trailer comes out about if it spoils much I wanna watch a trailer and talk about it but I don't want to know everything
I'll definitely mention it when the trailer drops.
Why can't we have both? The distractive power of nuclear weapons and the other is the force of nature? Both are important aspects of Godzilla and I love both sides. It's dumb to argue about which is better just love both. More Godzilla the better. 10:45 by the time all the original ToHo movies trailers were available to watch I'm positive a lot of Goji fans already seen a good chunk or a decent amount of those movies at that point so it was ok. Besides with a title called Godzilla vs this or that we know the outcome. 10:54 and the anime trilogy still flopped at the box office so where was the hype?
He's talking about the marketing, not the movies themselves. Wait until you watch the video before you comment lol
I'm not sure I understand where this comment is coming from. lol That's not what I was talking about. I like both sides of Godzilla. The Anime films didn't flop. Also, Toho used those trailers to market the films before they were released. idk what that point means.

It's posted on Toho's channel.
Sadly I didn't see any bloodshed in the new trailer for Minus One . I need to see some blood.
There was blood. There was was a scene where a character is cover on rubble. And his mouth was bleeding.
You don’t need to be abGoji expert to see TOHO really make him shine for his home and foundation.Legendary had their hands tied on what they could and couldn’t do with Goji. Plus we were lucky to get 3 TOHO characters in the Monsterverse. I am waiting for Evan G vs Shin and that will break the world..
I’ll speak for myself only but for me the Monsterverse is awesome and my favorite version of Godzilla.
Wait what's the evolution theory?
Eh 2014 wasnt the "most successful marketed" MV film because of suspense, ita because it was the first major godzilla film since final wars but sure. Love the toho meat riding everytime they release a project.
Nice predictions and discussion about how the monsterverse does their ad campaign to Toho's. 🙂👍
Are you excited for the fact Godzilla is back being a villain again?
I really agree with i am more american Godzilla but Warner Bross marketing is shit but still can't wait for both movies 🔥🔥🔥
Will this be dubbed or are we just getting a sub when it releases?
No idea!
in the end, the revenue make is success or not
The Legendary films aren't any worse than the Toho films. The problem is Legendary's marketing team, which doesn't make the films themselves any worse. I agree that Toho is great at making these recent Godzilla films (especially considering the Japanese Godzilla films up until Shin have been low bar), if I had to listen to you blow your load over how "smart and clever Toho is", I was gonna blow my brains out. Chill your tism.
well without toho... legendary godzilla would have never existed. so he can blow the load and dont need to chill.

@@ssppeeaarrIf it weren’t for Godzilla 2014’s success and the MV then we wouldn’t have the films that we have now (including minus 1). It revived the franchise and people seem to forget

Minus one was the best non spoiler Godzilla trailer I ever seen
Legendary and WB monster verse should have stuck with the more serious and gritty tone of the first one.
If they did then every film would get repetitive plus it’s not like Toho literally did the same thing before after the original film where they changed the tones of the other films to being more campy and action packed sci-fi films
Even Toho regretted changing the tone to campy and silly for the showa series, the serious tone gets way better results and than campy. Remember the batman films of the 90's went from serious to campy and the franchise went dormant because of that. Legendary and wb are making the same mistake, godzilla kotm was disappointing because they moved away from there serious tone and went for more special effects with cringe dialogue, which having a less box office return. Godzilla vs Kong was ok but not as good as the gareth edwards one.
Godzilla MinusONE😳Trailer🤯Love it😳Looks Good Right😆Our Godzilla Vs Everybody In This Film😊
I really Agree. Legendary Really Just Ruins everything in the Trailer.
I think Godzilla x Kong will work because the scar king was basically behind everything that happened in the monster verse and I think the movie will be the end of one saga and a new chapter will eventually begin after this movie
new trailer for minus one watch it
To me the two movies purposely have two tones for two separate audiences. One for true godzilla fans and one for general audiences who might also have kids. Minus one is likely not for kids, while Godzilla x Kong will be.
I mean, even toho movies have them for kids too, even for the darkest movies
@@Still.the.best.2021 hey man could you please name a few darkest godzilla entries in the toho collection? not too old not too new if possible
It isn't even out yet. You can't say they should learn anything if there's no movie to learn from.
You see the teaser ?
And people wonder why I always prefer Toho....
The Trailer was as Ominous as I'd hoped. But yes, Show Don't Tell is a great Rule to Follow. But I wonder WTH is up with that last shot of him screaming (obviously) in pain? He looks like he's ripped up and bloody! I can't wait to see what happened. Toho will ALWAYS be #1 when it comes to Goji. As far as Legendary goes, KOTM is the best of the Trilogy so far. Dougherty "Got it"...too much Monkey-Worship with Wingard...(anyone surprised)?
Minus One is what the 2014 film should have been.
What the monsterverse doesn't really get about Godzilla is that the movies aren't about people. It's not about the monsters. They aren't about Godzilla. They are about ideas. They are about politics.
The terror of war and weapons in a post-nuclear world. Japan coming to grips with it and moving on. The news' preoccupation with spectacle over the general welfare. Greed and it causing the destruction and polution of the natural world, with nuclear power becoming the solution.
And that's just Showa. At it's core, a Godzilla movie needs say something. The big green is just there to help the story along. Most Showa films didn't even plan on using him till last minute anyway.
While I am a huge MonsterVerse fan, I would generally agree. The MonsterVerse lacks the depth that is used to elevate Godzilla beyond just being another monster
Still, my biggest reservation is that the movie will move into an anti-American (or even an anti-Allied Powers) direction. The original film was critical of both sides. If this movie is going to be a successful Godzilla movie, it will need to remain true to the spirit of the original and explore the tragedy of post-war Japan. The Japanese people were the victims of an oppressive regime and then punished for living under it.
Also, I want to see an Americanized version of the film released a few years after from the perspective of Steve Martin... Godzilla -1.0: the return of Steve Martin.
Dont forget. Better teeth.
The monsterverse is my childhood bro let them leave the design
Honestly dude I don’t really care just as long the movie is good😒. Surprised or not I’m just looking forward to watching another godzilla film.
I know why the MonsterVerse doesn’t work: It’s American, it’s superficial in the form of bland fan service, it has no deep metaphor like the Toho entries, it spit on the metaphor of the original by bastardizing the Castle Bravo test, and it spit on Takarada as an actor and human. Spending $3000 on the suit he used in his deleted scene and not having it delivered to him is blasphemy. The only thing it got right was having Kong get his ass kicked by Godzilla.
The monsterverse main problem is that they started out serious and grounded and now they're turning the franchise into a campy science fiction. This is like what happened with Thor.
Ok and cause Togo did the same thing and I don’t see everyone complaining about it
Not true. It has the legendary Terry Rossio.
@@Juniorx6522 if that’s the case then why do so many fans love almost all of those old films to this very day despite Toho changing the tone after the first film when moving the franchise forward
I would say you’re riding Toho’s meat a little too hard. They are clever in their way of marketing but the success of Legendary’s marketing especially with 2014 and GvK kinda shows that both methods are equally viable depending on the film. It’s not that Toho’s way is the only way and the superior big brain move.
Legendary used exactly the approach I’m talking about in 2014. They have since changed management multiple times. Warner actually markets the films for them and Warner has been on a downward spiral
I have always looked forward to the Legendary / Warner Brothers Monsterverse movies. And I still do. Yet all along I have expressed the feeling that I prefer the blending of fantasy with reality and making it all look real, such as the way it was most masterfully done by Toho with movies such as "Godzilla Versus the Thing". And, regarding the Legendary / Warner Brothers movies, I have wanted to see maybe just a bit of a tone-down in the fantasy area and some tone-down with the liberties taken with the usual characters and usual powers of the monsters as we had known them prior to these new movies. For instance, I don't like things such as the institution of the "alpha monster" concept. I don't like upgrading Godzilla to the point of his being able to breathe his fire ray to the moon, while, at the same time, downgrading Kong who, as a young juvenile, had walked through a pool of fire in the movie "Kong Skull Island", or downgrading Rodan who took lightning bolts from King Ghidorah, then horn-rammed his derriere to the ground in the movie "Godzilla Versus Monster Zero". It goes on if you are 60 years old like me. I remember Mothra being referred to as "he" back when the first English dubs of these movies came out. So, naturally, I myself personally, would not take well to a gender change. Movie makers gotta consider this stuff. I think these things can be perfected. It ain't like Toho has never blundered. But, as one who has been watching these movies for longer than most of the people making them nowadays, I do want to see the perfectings take place. And, I duh know. We might have some of the kind I want to see happ'nin' here!
i hate spoilers
Trailers used to be an art. Now its 2 minutes of spoilers. I dont watch any traler thats over a minute
EXACTLY! That’s a perfect way to put it
I Like The MonsterVerse we got Now.
GVK was such a messed up movie anyway that the spoiler trailers don't matter, and they treated Kong like trash and had Godzilla defeat him both battles for some reason, it's a cinematic atrocity and GXK seems to just be the same kind of Godzilla-fanboy trash! The Monsterverse has been lacking in quality for a while and it needs to die already, it has already ruined and made me hate Godzilla whom I once used to love and only left me with appreciating Kong. #KongIsKing #KingKong #KingoftheMonsters
Monsterverse has the coolest designs & badass action scenes. The plots are absolute cat sht
They care too deeply about two fat dorks conspiracy theories and what Milly Bobby Brown is doing.
Does it really matter I mean just be excited we’re getting Godzilla their completely two different company’s their marketing strategies aren’t going to be the same. My opinion if you don’t want anything spoiled or don’t want anything given away to you in the trailers then stay away from the trailers I’m not trying to be rude I’m just saying.
I’m just pointing out how one marketing strategy is more effective than the other. This has been proven time and time again. There’s a reason Marvel movies have a legacy of intense marketing that captivated movie goers while DC does not.
Wait... this whole thing was just about trailers? You just don't think people should show what happens in the trailers?
Not the... fact that those god awful hollywood movies are about how nukes are good, actually, that rodan is made of lava, that mothra has big buff popeye arms, that KG does a fucking three stooges routine, that the plots are copypasted scrapbooks made of shit from other movies done in a way that's incomprehensibly stupid, that none of the worldbuilding is consistent or makes any sense, that every single scene of GvK was a fever dream of outlandish insanity where the rules changed from moment to moment, that they marketed what was supposedly a Godzilla movie solely on the fact that the dad from Malcom in the Middle was in it, then immediately killed him, and never actually showed you the monster they claimed was Godzilla, the part where they aren't paying their writers or actors, etc. etc. etc.?
Sure, okay, the thing hollywood needs to learn from Toho is to not tell people what happens in the movie. Not... y'know, the remedial kindergarten level basics of what a Godzilla movie even actually is. Because on every other metric they're doing just fine?
Im becoming more convinced he just does this for the clicks.....
I still want to know how King Kong got so big...he climbed the Empire state building. Now he's bigger than the Empire state building.
MV Kong is 337 feet, Empire State Building is 1250 feet
@@KillrMonkey19 in Godzilla vs Kong he's taller than any building
There were many buildings that towered over both Kong and Godzilla
@@KillrMonkey19 not in the movie I have on blue ray
In the final fight between Godzilla and Kong there were buildings that towered over both of them, like the one Kong tried to ambush Godzilla off of when he threw the crane to distract him
It's actually sad how much more biased you're towards the Toho Godzilla compared to legendary and Monsterverse you're always wayyy more excited and always downplay the monsterverse. Just come out and say u hate legendary godzilla and the only reason u make videos on it is because it makes u money.
