I'm doing my dad's 1.4 timing belt next week I've done a few audis but not ford do I need to replace water pump? I only have to remove the top cover but surely I don't have to take off oil pan?

An older video now, I know, but this engine was actually designed by Yamaha for Ford, and is basically the same as the engine in an 80 - 100 HP Yamaha outboard. I have one on my boat, and have just done a cylinder head overhaul. Just some useless trivia ;)
@@PeterFinnTheCarDoctor The block and head are different castings, because the exhaust ports in the outboard turn 180 degrees and run down through the block, but the internals are the same, to the point where the Yamaha camshafts actually have Ford logos cast into them. Apparently rebuilding a Yamaha is much cheaper if you source parts from Ford, instead of Yamaha ;)
Cool info man! I was just thinking about marinising my Mothers old ford focus engine, but I decided to use the volkswagen one instead and give the old zetec another chance on the road... it would have been rather funny if it have ended up in my boat without me knowing that it was originally designed for just that.
I dont know much about the toyotas but I have the focus 1.0 ecoboost 2018 and when you get the manual transmission its a fun car. (notice I didnt say fast) but if you want an automatic dont get it because they have transmission problems.
Hi Peter, I need advice, when you tighten the nut of the crankshaft can you keep it still in place with the bolt screwed? Is it robust enough? Or is it necessary to remove the starter motor and lock the flywheel?
I have noisy tappets is it better for me to replace the tappets which cost 120 or just to buy a cylinder head which costs 140 It is the 1.25 engine so has different size tappets and need to be measured
If u never take care of it, it will use oil, timing is difficult to get right, and doing timing is time consuming. Aslong as the oil is changed every 10k or less it will take u places
So the crankshaft is only stopped from passing TDC going one direction. The other direction the crank will move. I thought there was a place where the crank was locked in both directions.
Hi.I have a 2004 ford focus FL mk1 1.6 16v, and big compsumption of fuel. Could someone tell me what is the orginal lenght (mm) ford bolt to check tdc? Thank you for info.
new1ru But it's still an early zetec, from the CVH redesign. Ford Europe wanted interference engines whilst America (Canada too!) wanted freewheeling. So the American-spec models have various design features based on this engine block, Euro was similar for a short time but provided us with the new blacktop interference engine. This went across the board, yahdee yahdee yah, then the ecoboost eventually. Mazda also used this block throughout America-spec as well, opting to import the block for some Asia-spec heavier vehicles. The block was a winner in the internal competition that led Ford/Mazda to partner subsequently :)
It seems they've had a 9.6 cr for us-spec and 10:1 for europe, i guess by having a different pistons. As far as i know this is correct for both silver and black top zetecs. But anyway, this one is not a cvh or zetec design. As you can see the block is alloy (not iron) and another notable differenses are it's plastic breather and water pump hose mounts as well as the pump itself, also the main cap design makes it easy to tell what it really is:) Another point is the tradidional ford belhouse will never fit here:( Sry for multipost, something strange happened to my comments!
Thank you for taking the time and educating us,
4:00 somewhere in a store, a retail clerk is using a Ford timing plate to hold a grocery shelf in place :)
You are Right, 😃
Amazing video, thanks
Thank you too!
Thanks for sharing this :)
My pleasure!
is this the 1.6 ti-vct?
Thanks for Your info 👍😀
I love the voice and accent!
Good point and Thanks for comment.

Does it matter which rockers are compressed by the cam?
Thanks for comment

Hello is this the 2 litre engine?
1.6 16v
👍😀
Great video! What is the service interval for the timing belt. Some say 8 years or 160 000km. Seems a bit long to me
About 100 000km

Show me how to set zetec timing distribution
Thanks, I try to find solution.

Hi, replace bad bolts
Is this a black or silver top engine and what is the difference between them
These are only silver

If your cam stopper isn’t exact you’ll end up with rough idle and end up adjusting timing again in the car... ask how I know 😂
Thanks for info. :-)
This engine is totally irrelevant to Zetec exept for the name, this one is a zetec-se. They share some features like camshaft lock method though.
Good info and Thanks a Lot! :-)
No problem mate, thanks for the videos!
