We have been several times and there are heaps of bargains if buying in bulk. Also they are actively looking at the next NZ sites in CHC and WLG plus another one out South AKL. Definitely worth the membership
Love the vids 🙌 keep em coming 😎
Thanks! Will do!
The prices here have gone up substantially. I do not have a lot of kitchen storage area in my kitchen which is why have an area in the basement. Many Americans have refrigerators and a large freezer in their garage because of space . If you can buy more initially, in the long run you actually save money. I’m referring to items that you buy on the regular. For example, I buy laundry detergent and the toothpaste in bulk because I know with certainty that I will use those items
We just had a newer larger Costco open here and we have yet to go in because of the crowds! It's right off the highway which draws everyone! That must have been a bit of a drive to get there!
where?
@@paulprice1705 I'm in California
Wellington to Auckland is roughly an 8/9 hour drive 😊
There is so much going on in our country right now, so many families affected by the floods and the cyclones, people simply can't afford to shop in the bulk range. In the short term it is more manageable to shop weekly.
Yes totally agree! In fairness, I created this video before the cyclone.
Send it back inside the "wall"!
I think the overall limitation on filling Costco trolleys in NZ is that we live and are paid weekly (or, if your employer is trying to scimp out on doing payroll every week, then fortnightly), rather than monthly. It means that not only do most people not have the budget to buy a month's worth of bulk groceries, but they also don't have the space. As you've mentioned before, we have such small pantries and fridges compared to the US, so there's just nowhere to put that much shopping.
I get paid every two weeks, Costo want to much just to shop,
Payment intervals largely depend on what you do for a living. I started working as a lab assistant and was paid weekly, in cash in 1969. As far as I can remember prior to bank transfer payment almost everybody got weekly or fortnightly pay. Once bank transfers became more common and I moved to an "office job" I was on a monthly pay and have stayed there ever since.
If Costco's had done there homework properly, they would have realized that South Auckland would have attracted more people & revenue annually than West Akld or any other location in NZ in my opinion ?
The dirty south is reknowned for its larger than life, big families looking for those illusive specials and knowing that Auckland holds the largest population !
Drury Township is expanding and is currently under development, It would be ideal as it is central enough to service All of Sth Akld, All of East Akld, and the greater parts of the Waikato, Hamilton and others.
In Australia and can't justify membership so I can buy there products!
“You can get coffins and caskets people” 😂
Novelty value is another reason for the crowds.
It's only stuff, stuff you'll never miss if you never have it.
Ok Jacinda..
@@thrusta100 It's actually Chris,,
@@thrusta100 i bet yu dont even vote, take a seat Camper,
I want to buy so much but i cant afford almost everything there. Its kind of sucks even if i get 4 or 5 things im gonna loose at least 300$
Costco coming to welly chch and another Auckland store, my cart is always full, I havnt and won't set foot in pak n save, new world or countdown ever again after they've been ripping kiwis a new one for years, love costco and their rebates mmm mmmm
What really!?? I will believe it when I see it...so slowwww
*Kia ora, I don't have a Cosco card and not been... But when the place first opened... it was crazy.... queues so long and trollies filled to the brim. People were posting all over FB at the time... certain times of the day & certain days are now apparently quieter. Heck the queue were even down the motorway when it first opened.... But now as time goes along, I would be thinking it has settled down... but some still fill up their trolley... some have now put up shelves in the garage to store what they buy. Is it worth it... each to their own and to what they want to buy. Would I spend $2,000 of a xmas tree... NO..... would I buy a motorbike there... NO. Would I buy a casket there... NOPE. Do I bulk buy... NO.*
God that hot dog looks great, i do love our kiwi hot dogs, but that looks like the real deal ,nice one. i watched a short video you did on the mass shootings in the u.s 72 in 42 days i think it was. That made me tear up...I am sorry to hear this happening in your home of birth.I hope one day they too can live in peace..Thanks for the video will..n.z
We do have Costco here in Australia but I have not been there yet. Thank you for the video!
Thanks for watching! The
I'm Australian and moved to NZ. Costco and IKEA I definitely miss.
I live in Australia 🇦🇺. Never been to a Costco. They only operate in the larger cities.
also in US store and cafe owners shop for supplies at Costco, don’t know if same have caught on to that yet. Yay I can get ranch dressing again! good to see, dont know if worth the trip from Gizzy, maybe I’ll fly in and load up a suitcase
They can do that in Australia too. There is a different level of membership for businesses.
I was at Costco on Friday and there was a man with a flat bed trolley loaded up with 8 sacks of flour somewhere between 5 and 10 kg each. I’m guessing he owns a bakery or a pizza restaurant or something.
They are building one near Wellington and one in Christchurch:)
Have they actually started construction in Wellington??? If so where. I'm in Palmy Nth and would totally drive down to shop there
@@rebeccarigg3002 considering the size of the building + large parking lot required + Costco fuel station space required I'd imagine it would be somewhere in the porirua/hutt region. Don't see it being too central as the land wouldn't be available 🤙
Costco is considering new stores in Wellington and Christchurch
Looking forward to knowing if I can still get the 200g Alaskan king card legs
What is a Alaskan king card legs, is it a card or something🤔
@@hineturamahaimona7830 Probally auto correct . Possibly mean’t Crab Legs
Crab crab crab legs the size of my wrist I used to get in Hawaii
Of course they are going to build more stores, especially when they see what they can rip the good old kiwi off for, the average kiwi ripped of again.
I drove there on a week day 45 minutes about a month after it opened thinking kids are at school everyone is back at work…..I barely got a parking space…I walked towards the entrance and there was a queue going into the carpark…..It was a hot day and I couldn’t be bothered, I turned around headed to my car and drove home. I’ve lived all this time without it I’m sure I’ll manage.
Maybe when there’s more stores and the novelty has worn off I’ll revisit.
You have to go when they open at 10am that's when it's the quietest, on a Tuesday or Friday
costco should be move wellington
Costco costs to much thats why we dont get much
If you went on the weekend it is packed
Humid in Central at the mo,
As a Kiwi in California in inthe 90's ... and had a baby in San Diego... nobody wanted to know us.. Actually we are great people.
I'm a kiwi after 40 years abroad Kiwis don't like me
Oh that is interesting. I think that overall Kiwis are more welcoming than Americans as a general rule.
@@Kiwiamericans a lot of drinking and nacistic people.offended easy by American ways and terms.because I have been so very blessed they don't get it that I made different choices family are broken out of shape put limitations on themselves and project that to me.they have cancer motor neuron disease and a brain aneurysm. I'm 60 No kids healthy got all my teeth and happy and picking kiwis fruit.
I find it boarding on insanity that you have to pay to buy shite from their store..it should be the other way round..can't get my head around that one.
Well you have too at all the wholesale stores in NZ - Gillmours and Moore Wilson...
i want to ask a question ..why do we have to have a membership؟
@@dodomohamed-b3e just the cheapest way to give u the support you need when moving abroad.
No alcohol section is a big let down. No 20 litre bottles of jim beam or absolut or whatever.
I agree! It's only because it's in West Auckland where they have the Liquor Trust, much like the bottom of the South... anywhere else and they'd have their liquor section in place, no doubt.
I have never seen coffins and caskets at Costco 😂. Really happy they opened this in Auckland! Definitely worth the membership…anywhere in the world . Costco is also known for selling organic stuff too.
I'm not sure if anybody has mentioned it, but you might be able to get crab legs at the Moore Wilson's on Tory Street.
I don't think buying in bulk is too common in NZ, not to that extent, I wonder if the food choices are tainted as much as the US food is,I mean in taste. HB in the states,I think it's HB, is far better then Costco.
I love Costco we have 2 in Perth and it's always full I love the bulk food I can put in my store cupboard best place to shop.
Its barely cheaper, you have to pay to shop there (WTF?) and its to far away.
I am wondering what the book cases or metal shelving is like? Do they sell them their?
I bought the Jack cheese as well! ... same reason. Did you notice that it was made and supplied by China? Had me laughing for how China's cheese making isn't quite as well known as that of the US and NZ but... there it was and I wasn't going to pass it up! The texture was all wrong, it was very much a processed cheese for texture but the flavour was right. I saw that Costco is carrying wild caught Sockeye salmon in the frozen section, the price was out of sight but they carry it. Might have to have one for a special occasion I'm thinking. I find that I tend to go there mostly for the Kirkland brand salsa, it's not full of sugar like the Kiwi salsa you find in the taco section at New World and yes, that's the actual name of a national grocery chain here in NZ. My local butcher's prices are right on par with what I saw at Costco for meats, as were the fresh produce prices, no real savings to be found, not really. So, I'll choose to support the local businesses over supporting Costco for those things, plus they tend to look fresher at the local. It is really fun to see all the American products even for not really wanting to take home much of it. I was quickly reminded for how the North American palate is more geared towards salt over the NZ focus on sweet. It really did feel like a quick stop off to the States, even for all the fun Kiwi items.. like you pointed out.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and price comparisons - really good to know.
They are planning to have one in Christchurch then wellington
I have worn the same Kirkland brand modal cotton tank tops for about 10 years. They’re so soft and still holding up! What are the clothing choices like there?
The clothing was nice!!
I live in Edmonton, AB Canada. We have several Costco's here. They are always busy. However, they don't sell coffins.
Oh really? wonder if that is a NZ thing...
There are 3 "Kosco"s in Christchurch
It was a short video. However, I was excited for you all! I do agree that the prices were high! Next time you all go, show the meat, dairy, fruit & veggies, and the flower section! Looked great! Thank you from Texas!
Sylvia - Yes they were out of a lot of meat - but my editor must have cut it out. Thanks for watching.
Hi I use the online order feature
That’s about as crowded as the one in northern Philadelphia. Even on a weekday.
wow really - that is interesting!
Great video my friend
Thank you! Cheers!
On an unrelated matter - is it normal for Americans to go to "therapy"? I often hear it mentioned on American tv programs, and there doesn't seem to be any embarrassment about it either 🤔
Yes it is a normal thing - even for all ages. America is a very consumer society - so if you say someone needs something - they will pay for it.
@@Kiwiamericanswow therapy is a bad thing to you? You are a horrible representation of America . And no most people don’t do therapy, because it’s not covered by most insurance.
Was it a rare sight to find ranch dressing?
Yes you cannot get that here unless you are at an American store - that is why I created my own in my cookbook :)
Could it be the price are US converted to NZ
7.99 USD to NZD is still like 12-13 dollars.
Yes there is that but it was still quite a bit more in NZ
I work 3 minutes from it so we go there for lunch on occasion. Its a great way to see how different American food are compared to NZ and yes your right about the waiting time.
oh my goodness - please have a hot dog for me!
@@Kiwiamericans OH absolutely lol
@@Kiwiamericans Raglan beach is a Summer you tube vid?
i regret not learning to surf on my childhood holidays,
@greggiles7309 that's ok you have plenty of time to learn. There are a few surfs spots down near Wellington you could try lol.
I live 15-20 min away and I refuse to partake, now if they were to pay me $60 for the privilidge, then might consider it.
I made that $60, back in 2 shops at Costco, there's a reason there's over 800 stores worldwide.. love shopping there 😉
It looks expensive to shop there but the food looks amazing 😍
It's all in bulk and is actually alot cheaper
@@alicetango6725 thank you 💗😊 I may have to travel to Auckland to check it out
People going shopping there only get the things they need or just something they like or both 😂 or just looking around. Christmas time be different that's when you see full chart s 😅
It will be nothing but a memory in 12 months it's in the worst possible part of Auckland to access for 90% of people living in Auckland....it's dead in the water...also things seem so expensive because the dollar is worth half as much and tax is added into the price realistically the prices are probably pretty much the same as in America your just not using American money. Obvious really.
It's far from " dead in the water" 😂, it's one of the busiest costco stores worldwide and already over 170.000 members in Auckland , I've got some great deals, the new store out by the airport, welly and chch will be great too 😉
