Rayman 4 (Phoenix Interactive) Animation Tests

- A community member recently got in contact with an animator of the now defunct game studio "Phoenix Interactive/Phoenix Studio" (not to be confused with Phoenix Interactive Entertainment), the studio that worked on the original Rayman 4 prototype. The animator was nice enough to provide us with some animation tests that they worked on for the project. The animations are compiled in this video.
Music was added to the video for cocktail_test.AVI, Rayman_climb-walk.avi and the clips afterwards.

After Ubisoft decided to rebrand Raving Rabbids into a party game, they should’ve called back this studio and said “Hey uhh…Remember how we said we already had a team working on a Rayman 3D platformer title? Yeah, well there’s been a change of plans and we’d like for you guys to pick up where you last left off on your Rayman project, sound good?”
May I remind you there is a story of Rayman's adventures of Raving Rabbids on Gameboy or Nintendo DS. Those devices don't have party games on them.

In a world where Crash Bandicoot , Kid Icarus , Sonic and even Suikoden have gone through or aee going through a revival ( for Suikoden it's a spiritual successor , but it still counts ) it's so sad to see Rayman , Grandia , and Golden Sun remain products of the past , even though their games are timeless classics
This is absolutely wonderful, i’m so happy some of one of the R4 prototypes is finally coming out! gets me excited just like when I was a little one! let’s hope some of the R4: Rabbids prototype comes out because that would be truly special!

@@themookmann2780 To be fair the original concept of those bunnies was really cool, now they're just the Minions of the videogames, the Ubisoft Montpellier prototype shows a concept of evil zombie looking bunnies that would destroy everything they saw.

I love this! It's still makes me so sad when I remember that Rayman 4 was cancelled, but seeing these tests from the project is definitely something I'm happy about!
Let's all hope that Rayman 4 will be released some how in the future.

Ubi should sell the franchise to a different studio. They've become such an ugly company these days, they don't deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as Rayman
Absolutely needed. Its so wonderful to see unused material breaking through; its so sad it was a dropped potential, but seeing this just relights those brilliant moments!

1:04 this animation was used in the Rayman Raving Rabbids GBA
Well, yes, but actually no. What they used in that game was sprites, since the GBA couldn't resist alot of 3D games i believe.
I guess they did sprites BASED on that animation, yet they're not exactly the same

Rayman 4 in which the main villain is DarkRay/Raymesis/whatever you want to call him, that's all I ask. I've been wishing for a game like this since I first heard of Rayman over 10 years ago

Shows us that we would have more of Rayman 3 in overall tone which I honestly have no problem with since the mix of humor and fantasy adventure was fine in that one. Some of the worlds in there were absolutely breathtaking, had sense of ancient history to them.
Maybe once in our live's we will get to play the next 3D version of Rayman!

i want to say thanks to the guy who give us some animations from this cancelled 4th game.
I will give my personal opinions about each animations :
0:00 "Boing" : This animation of rayman getting ejected by a trap can be seen as a cut-scene to introduce a new world (probably the castle of dark rayman), a bonus clip or even for a commercial.
0:11 "Cado" : Like the "boing" animation, this one can be seen as a cut-scene (probably the cake world), a bonus clip, or a commercial.
0:26 "Cocktail" : This animation is surely used as a commercial or an introduction for rayman. it shows that this character is not serious and very lazy.
0:40 "gaffe" : this is the continuing of the "cocktail" animation. In this one, it shows that even if rayman is a hero, he can be goofy, dumb and particularly clumsy.
0:57 "RTC" : This animation is surely used as a cut-scene before a confrontation with a boss or before beginning a level.
1:01, 1:04, 1:10 "actions : these animations are a preview of the movement of the character for special moments like climbing, walking on the ceiling and fighting.
1:17 "Rayman into pieces" : This is probably used for a "standing animation" (in some games, the character is making some different actions when the player don't make him move. For example, in bad furr day, when the character stand still too long, he pull out a gameboy and playing until the player ask him to move) or used for the "game over".
1:25 "Rayman gonfle" : A pretty strange animation. This could be used as a capacity for a level or as a restart animation. I'm pretty sure some people with inflation fetish will love this one.

Holy shit, I'm surprised the animation files still exitsed for so long. I thought they were scrapped. And it's surprising for me that they were using the model from Hoodlum Havoc since I always thought Phoenix's Rayman 4 was going to be a 2D game for some reason...

Man this makes me not only want a new 3d rayman game but a tv series as well! Granted they did try before and it was cancelled, but if we can get a rabbids tv series (that somehow got 2 seasons... I don't know how), Rayman can get one!

Sadly Rayman 4 may indeed be lost to time because Ubisoft have waited too long between the last game that younger gamers aren't going to know the franchise or previous games at all and thus may not be interested in owning it, which means no money and us old school fans have probably washed our hands in effect and look at it as a 'what could've been thing now'.
