i've gotten an exact tie two times (same timing and amount of drumroll hits as the opponent) but i've still gotten extra points for basically nothing to get the win. don't understand what kind of mechanism is behind it
I really like how they use Shin-Uchi scoring for this, instead of combo-based scoring. It makes mistakes less punishing and comebacks are actually possible.
@Katherine Grebenc Shin-Uchi scoring is a scoring system where each note is worth a set number of points, and the maximum score for the song is always 1,000,000 on Shin-Uchi. Normally, the value of each note is dependent on your combo, so usually the higher max combo wins because of the multiplier at higher combo counts. With Shin-Uchi scoring, accuracy is prioritized since there's no combo multiplier. It's better for competitive play because of the emphasis on accuracy, rather than just having a high combo count.
Nope, not as far as I know. Think of it sort of like the scoring system in the newer DDR games or Sound Voltex, where every song has a score capped at 1,000,000 or 10,000,000 respectively, regardless of the number of notes in the song. No matter what song you play in Taiko, if you’re using Shin-Uchi, and are hitting every note perfectly, your score should cap out at 1,000,000, or something close to it. I don’t know how drumrolls are affected by this system, so I could be wrong.
"they look angry" well sometimes they look angry when they're sometimes happy Probably if they fixed the message to something like this "I'm gonna beat you" for angry purposes Look at the fighting section they're supposed to be angry even though they are brothers (yes don and katsu are siblings)

If you can't get a drum, it's fine to stick with Joy-Cons. I'm doing somewhat decently on buttons, but it would be great to get a legit taiko controller. Maybe not the ones Hori makes (small and difficult to roll on them), but instead a custom controller made to resemble the arcade cabinets (which do exist, but I will never afford.) Until then, button worriors unite.
Are you playing with drums ? Because i'd like to someday get to your level but i'm using a controler, is it necessary to buy the drums to get to this level ?
This video was recorded using Joycon buttons. Buying the drum isn't necessary at all to improve, almost everything learned through buttons can be translated into the drum and vice versa, granted you still need to learn how to drum and stay consistent. If you wanna learn to drum, yeah sure, try out the drum! If you just want to play taiko with what you have, the controller is fine too, that's how console taiko is mostly played anyway :)
