  • While similar to the game of Tarot or Tarocchi, Minchiate was a game that used an expanded deck of 97 cards, including all seven virtues, the four elements, and the signs of the Western zodiac. Join me for a little history as I compare two historic Minchiate with an earlier Italian deck that more closely resembles the later Tarot de Marseilles.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.
As a side note, you remind me of a friend who used to be in a writers' critique group i facilitated in Seattle from 2005 - 2011.

@@WaterChildTarot she is a nice lady. I miss talking to her. in 2011, I moved away from Seattle. She married a Trumpet player and he entered a PhD program. They live in TX now. She has an MFA in poetry. She is a writing teacher.
You're an instructor and she is an instructor. People who look alike have similar skills. I resembled Ezra Pound when I was younger and we are both poets.

Good morning, Sarah. I got the Al Cigno after watching Marilyn @ Tarot Clarity. I really like this deck. The orange and green colors appeal to me and the additions of the elements, astrological signs, and virtues add a lot of layers in a reading. The idea of creating a deck with no numbers is also quite interesting. Thanks for the comparisons. Have a good day.

Yeah, even though this wasn’t meant to be used for divination I agree it works well with the extra cards. I’m linking forward to sharing some readings, eventually. Thanks for stopping by!

I enjoyed this! Undiscernable animals, a disco ball, and the threat of being impaled on a porcupine - very interesting indeed. I do like the idea of these extra cards. 💚

I loved this - seeing the cards in order side by side was really conducive to inspiring questions and things to kind of jot down for later... Yay! ❤

Also.. I really feel like there needs to be some kind of tipsy tarot series to feature getting shit-faced and tarot-faced at the same time. 🍻🃏🍺🃏🔮🤣🥰🤓

I’m glad this was helpful! It was a walkthrough I wanted to do for myself anyway so I thought I’d share. Thank you for taking the time to comment.

Have you ever thought about doing a video specifically about the companies and people who make historical decks? I know of Yves Renaud in France, Artisan Tarot in the US, and a guy, Pablo (I think?), in Argentina, but that's about it. And I've never dealt with any of them. It would be good to know where to get some of the decks, what the quality and style is like, what your personal experiences have been, etc, etc?

So it's funny, I had a similar idea a while back about comparing the card stock on historic reproductions, but that felt superficial. I like this idea better. I've started putting together my notes. It might take a while but it's a great suggestion. Thank you!

The game of penis's got it. Errr where are they? Missed a beat back along when. Bah.
Interesting, tarot really is a rabbit hole.
Take care and thank you for sharing !! 🌈

Oh my, yes. I think the term was a variation on slang for “idiot” but related to the term for “penis” so perhaps equivalent to calling those who played it “dick heads”??? A funny piece of history. Thanks for watching!

What book on Minchiate did you get that you will be reviewing?

    • @WaterChildTarot

Good question. It's the book that goes with the Tarot Minchiote Al Leone, first funded via Kickstarter but I believe the author (Amparo Aguirre) is going to do another printing at some point. She offers the book for €5 on her website, though I'm not sure how one goes about buying a copy - might require contact. tarotminchiate.com/productos/
