The final story is one of the most tightly-written comedies I have ever seen. The joke setups are master-class and I constantly use them as examples for others.
RIGHT?!?! I remember the Disney channel behind the scenes commercials for it, the movie surfers segments on it, the day it came out, AND the day I saw it in theaters. I could have SWOOOORN that was 2004!
How so, the passage of time is quite standard. Not to mention the growth apathy of the unconscious mind, cast the focus of time and time event milestones into wider margins. It's not difficult than first schoolers feeling their class was longer than a year and college students feeling the hunt of their PHD wasn't as long as a time of their high school epochs.
Yes. something I've seen people constantly talk about is how fast pased New Groove is, and it is, but it takes a while to actually get to the fast paced stuff. with the exception of a few scenes the first act is pretty slow moving. it takes 15 minutes for Kuzco to be turned into a llama and almost another 15 for him to wake up at Pacha's. the first act is spent focusing less on action and more on establishing character and tone and I don't see that talked about as much so it was nice to see it mentioned here.
Absolutely love The Emperor's New Groove and it is really cool that you're covering it. I had no idea the same director did Cats Don't Dance! That... makes a lot of sense stylistically, now that you told me. Looking forward to hearing more! 😀
I have huge admiration for your ability to combine an analytical dissection of this film’s style and story with your deeply personal appreciation and enjoyment. The paradox of being cool and warm at the same time
This is likely my most quoted animated films. and What made me watch almost anything that I hear Patrick Warburton is in. Yzma is the inspiration for one of my recent passion characters I've designed. and Rest in Peace Eartha Kitt, who had a flawless performance in the role.
I personally have always believed that this is the best movie Disney has ever made, like, lit, since I was a kid. There's no Disney movie that I can consider better than this one.
This film is stunningly absurd and maniacally outrageous, I need to view this vibrant HD remaster, it's head and shoulders above the worn out VHS tape I recorded off Disney Channel as a kid! My mum took me to see this film in cinemas and I fell in love with its outlandish characters and surrealist humour, what a time to be alive! The McDonald's tie-in toys were also exceptional quality, hard plastic and rubber figures of Yzma, Kronk, Bucky, and Kuzco as a llama being pulled in the cart by Pacha; Kuzco's model was like a thick round red disc with head and legs poking out like points on a star, and a spring-loaded, round-edged stopper, central on either side, so Kuzco could spin in the rubble of Pacha's cart as he was carried along. During the craze of 2001, my Dad drilled two holes off the centre of this disc, and my custom Kuzco Beyblade wiped the floor with the other schoolkids' official models; being made of solid plastic with large, angled protrusions, it would smack other 'blades straight out of the arena, it was so satisfying! 😂😂😂 God, I miss being a kid.

I hope they never make a live action remake, Disney already screwed over the few people that could have actually make it work, Phil Lord, Chris Miller, Edgar Wright
Hi, I just want to point out; I checked Wikipedia, and I guess someone watched this video and fixed the VHS thing. Gotta so, I'm surprised at how quickly that was fixed.
It took some inspiration from the movie "Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger". In that movie, the villain is an older woman with her son as the younger sidekick and it really comes across as Kronk and Esma. She turns the prince into a baboon and Sinbad has to take him on a journey to get cured. She can change into animal form thanks to a red potion. only she breaks it and doesn't have enough to fully change back. This leads to a race to get the one cure where she takes a mysterious shortcut that isn't fully explained to catch up for a final battle. lol, If you love The Emperor's New Groove, watch Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger and you will have a blast finding bits that they share.
The first film I bought film tickets to out of my own pocket, (lots of neighborhood can collecting). The ost was also the first CD I got for the following Christmas long witht first walkman. Love this film to bits and pieces. It's still a shame how Eartha Kitt's role was shrunk so much, as her musical prowess from the cut of film was amazing and her interviews always leaves me a bit heartbroken to now be able to experience her full range of talent on screen.
Snuff Out The Light is a great song, but I don't think the original version of Yzma would have been even half as funny as she is in the version we got. She's easily the highlight of the entire movie in the version we got. Pretty much every one of her lines is really funny, she's perfect.
I LOVE this movie. I was 5 going on 6 when the movie came out, and I watched it a LOT. My mom loved it too. Some nights, during the summer, I have nostalgia for the summer nights where I'd ride with my mom on her motorcycle through the city and go home and watch Emporer's New Groove. Good times
I'm not sure what or why, but whenever I show this movie to anyone, including my mom, they cringe moment after asking if that's David Spade and never make it far afterwards before deeming it bad and questioning why I like the movie and how dumb it is.
Probably because anyone that knew David Spade first can't stand his voice as it reminds them of all the other garbage he's been associated with. I've loved The Emperor's New Groove enough to give him a chance, but, like Jack Black and Eddie Murphy, he's really only funny in a voice acting role.
Bing?! Holy shit, you were one of my fav youtubers in the times before anyone even called them youtubers. Didn't know you were still making videos! HIDY is still right there with all the ASDFs and Doctor Octagonapuses and such, in those parts of my brain that were shaped by pre-2010s youtube. Oh yeah, Emperor's New Groove is good too.
You know what other Disney movie is a masterpiece that had a disastrous production? Treasure Planet. Disney straight up murdered it. One of the best movies they ever dropped. The story of the movie really is a tragedy.
Holy shit man. I fuckin missed you. This probably sounds insane but this popped up on my feed and I clicked, clicked your channel and started scrolling, I used to adore PBFB and really most things you've done on this platform over the past 20ish years
When we saw the film in the theater, we thought, as did many others, that the ride down to the lab _needs_ to be a new roller coaster. I don't think I'll ever see it done, but wouldn't that be so cool?
I’m pretty sure my dad, my sister, and I were responsible for 20% of their profits lol. We saw that movie at least 8 times and we alternated between The Grinch and The Emperor’s New Groove in theatres!
I was ten when this came out. The last time I saw it was four years ago. That’s probably the longest I’ve gone without watching it. I wouldn’t be surprised if found out I have seen it over a hundred times.
Mark Dindal’s Cat’s Don’t Dance is phenomenal, and Groove continues that style of fast, gag-filled, classic cartoony animation. It’s too bad his streak as a director didn’t keep up, as Chicken Little & Garfield were pretty weak.
i will always be sad that we never got kingdom of the sun as there sound like there was so many cool elements in it, Yzma's song for instance is so great! but still, the emperor's new groove is one of my favorite disney's as is and i am so happy we got that.
My kiddo wanted to watch the Garfield movie and i surprisingly loved it. Makes sense it was from the director of my favorite Disney movie! Awesome video, thanks for making it.
I’ve watched this movie thousands of times. Favorite movie for my best friend and me. Also the chef thing always makes me think of Sword and Stone when Merlin is shoving his whole ass house into his doctor bag. 💼
i remember this came out when i was 12, because i wanted to see a 12-rated film in the cinema but my parents wouldn't let me go alone (at the time you couldn't take my younger siblings into 12 films). so i went into this feeling upset and then ... couldn't help loving the film and remembering it as an all-time favourite. (The other film in question was Castaway, which when I finally saw it on video a few months later was a big disappointment. tom hanks was good in it though) edit: it apparently came out when i was 13, (Feb 2001 in the UK) so idk
"This movie turns 25 this year." Stop. How you can let such poorly researched misinformation out into public like that? Don't you take pride in your work? This movie clearly can't be any older than... oh... oh.... OOOOOOHHH god I need to lie down. Love your work and this channel.
I hope you can cover the amount of (very good) queer references in the movie that they managed to get through the door that Disney would never let through if they were watching it like their usual productions
My friend, I'm currently in an emperor's new groove hyper fixation, thank you for this There's a Gameboy color game of this movie, and it's essentially an unrelated platformer. Not bad tho
This is one of my favourite Disney movies ever, I still watch it sometimes. It's a classic in every sense!!! My other favourite movies are Mulan and Hercules. The humour is fantastic, from when comedians weren't afraid to make jokes and be funny.
If disney didnt make shows of different cultures people would cry about not getting representation. If they do make a movie with different culture people cry its appropriation.
Eh... the way he's introduced and described is very, that. "That's Yzma's man servant. Every decade or so she gets a new one. This year's model is called Kronk!" That's not a mother/son dynamic that's an Alanis Morissette "Hands Clean" energy. 😅
Honestly the best movie produced by Disney is considered one of the worst. Treasure planet is a great movie but it also is the last great movie they made. Its all been down hill since then. With a good movie sprinkled in, like deadpool. Now I say if you want to ruin a good series sell it to disney.
I vividly remember seeing this for the first time at Beartooth, a pizza restaurant / movie theater that brewed it's own root beer and has AMAZING pizza. My family and I enjoyed every second of it's 2D animated comedic glory! Easily in my top 20 favorite movies of all time, top 3 favorite Disney movies of all time.
TENG is unquestionably my favourite Disney movie ever and I am so here for a series about it, but I have to point out there's no way Kronk is Yzma's boyfriend. His official title is probably Yzma's bodyguard but he seems to just have been absorbed as an all around butler, gopher and lackey. At no point do either of them express any affection towards each other, Kronk is highly loyal and obedient to her orders, but largely because he's clearly not bright enough to question what he's asked to do. He also consistently demonstrates a child like innocence such as when playing jumprope with Pacha's kids or guiding the junior chipmonks. One may infer he is either gay or asexual, we see him taking great care and pride in preparing food for yzma and kuzco, quite in spite of the actual purpose of the evening ('He'll be dead before dessert'. "Which is a shame because it's going to be delicious") What's clear is that while Yzma's motives have transitioned through the rewrites from beauty to power, she is still highly vain and self centred, and has surely chosen Kronk because he has the outward appearance of a hyper masculine young man, (We know she goes through assistants at a very high turnover rate) he is not coded in the film as anything other than a big dumb puppy, and she never even feigns affection towards him or even shows any concern for his opinion of her so I really don't think there's any suggestion of anything emotional in their relationship, however toxic that would obviously be if it were the case.
this is so interestinf because Wish had a similar process (much of the story being reworked several times) but it seemed to lose its charm along the way, while TENG benefited from its changes! one of my favorite movies definitely
this movie is one of my favorite disney movies. i stopped watching disney movies cause i dont support some of their choices but out of the ones ive seen that one is one of my favorites for sure
Given the things Disney has taken to force on us lately, I think this was one of the first of the forced perspectives that I’m aware of them doing. I think they wanted to fully embrace computer animation and do away with hand drawn films. I think they wanted ENG to completely fail so they could use it as an example of why they wouldn’t release any future hand drawn movies. Personally I love the hand drawn films. There’s way more heart in them than the computer drawn ones.
The final story is one of the most tightly-written comedies I have ever seen. The joke setups are master-class and I constantly use them as examples for others.
I will say this countless times: Kuzco is my favorite Disney princess, and no one will change my mind
Why isnt he a disney prince? He is male.
He is basically Snow White.
@Hi-jw7oq watch the movie.
That boy is a Princess don't you lump him in with those milk toast princes. 😂
@@Hi-jw7oq nope. He is too interesting to be a prince.
I agree!!!
Patrick Warburton saying "Right" was peak comedy for me, like this developed my sense of humor as a kid
Riiiiiight. He'll always be Puddy to me... "high five" lol
"PULL THE LEVER, KRONK!!! **Kronk pulls lever** WRONG LEVER!!!" That shtick never gets old! XD
Don't forget, "Why do we/does she even have that lever!?"
literally never
Even when they did it every episode of the TV show, it didn't get old.
That was my thought exactly when I saw the words "pull the lever", lmao. Best skit ever!!!
New Groove reminds me of The Princess Bride, in that it both spoofs its genre and is a great example of the genre at the same time.
Galaxy quest should be on that list as well
I quite agree because even though you can say Spaceballs is Star wars spoofed it's not as close and competitive with Galaxy quest
What genre is it spoofing?
Add on the Road to El Dorado.
No way this movie turns 25 this year. I'm not that old.
hearing that was like being shot in the chest LMAO
Then might gui from naruto teach you anything
@mvsh
You're not that old, but I'm 36. I feel as old as my housemates after hearing The Emperor's New Groove turns 25 this year.
Think this is my favourite Patrick Warburton VO role, I feel like every line he says is elevated to iconic status purely by the way he delivers it.
It's a tie between Kronk and Brock Samson for me.
I love this movie so much. So many quotes like "No Touchy!" and "You threw off the emperors groove" get quoted so much
This and dreamworks road to El Dorado were childhood staples in my household
I found Road to El Dorado didn't hold up quite as well to re-watch as this one for me.
Two freakin' winners right there.
“Bring it on.” A line I quote to this day in the face of any imminent minor inconvenience.
Yes. something I've seen people constantly talk about is how fast pased New Groove is, and it is, but it takes a while to actually get to the fast paced stuff. with the exception of a few scenes the first act is pretty slow moving. it takes 15 minutes for Kuzco to be turned into a llama and almost another 15 for him to wake up at Pacha's. the first act is spent focusing less on action and more on establishing character and tone and I don't see that talked about as much so it was nice to see it mentioned here.
This movie is huge in Brazil, we love the adaptation of the voice acting, there are so many memes here, this movie is a gem
My Brazilian friend showed me that version and the VA's knocked it out of the park. They're amazing. It was so fun
I have a real soft spot for this movie. I remember seeing it at the cinema on my 11th birthday.
Absolutely love The Emperor's New Groove and it is really cool that you're covering it. I had no idea the same director did Cats Don't Dance! That... makes a lot of sense stylistically, now that you told me. Looking forward to hearing more! 😀
Jiiiiiimmmms
Wait your here?
Cats Don't Dance is also a classic
I have huge admiration for your ability to combine an analytical dissection of this film’s style and story with your deeply personal appreciation and enjoyment. The paradox of being cool and warm at the same time

Freakin' right? She did such a good job with Yzma.
2:41 There I am Gary! there I am!
"That Poison?"
Hell yeah... I'm subscribed. Can't wait for more episodes!
I loving these video eassy from you, Bing!
Thanks!! I'm really enjoying making them.
A video series on my favourite movie of all time? Count me in! I swear there isn’t a single bad scene in the whole movie.
I personally have always believed that this is the best movie Disney has ever made, like, lit, since I was a kid. There's no Disney movie that I can consider better than this one.

Oh no, there were happy meal toys? Now I gotta track those down too (already got lion king and brother bear)
Wikipedia editors tend to work really fast, looking on the changelog it was fixed the same day this video was released.
Yeah, I'm an admin there. As soon as something is pointed out, it gets updated. I'm not surprised to learn to that I don't need to go edit that.
Keep up the mini series! Love your movie picks

bing + kronk = bonk
The most clever first comment I’ve ever read
👏👏👏
Oh hell yeah. Time to go watch it again so I can get the full impact of this series >:3
Easily my favorite Disney movie, and nothing else comes even remotely close.

This movie will always be one of my favorite childhood movies it was gold
I edited the Wikipedia page. At least, I edited the first mention of DVD to VHS.
Awesome, thanks!! 🙏
Good times
4:21 I've never thought of them as dating, very interesting lol
The emperor's new groove is so different from other disney movies that i think this is what makes it so special and enjoyable.
i love the shot of pacha pulling kuzco out of the water. the way the water was animated 😙👌
We quote this so much in my family.
My siblings and I watched it for the first time last year and it instantly became one of our favorite movies.
I'm not sure what or why, but whenever I show this movie to anyone, including my mom, they cringe moment after asking if that's David Spade and never make it far afterwards before deeming it bad and questioning why I like the movie and how dumb it is.

HIDY is still right there with all the ASDFs and Doctor Octagonapuses and such, in those parts of my brain that were shaped by pre-2010s youtube. Oh yeah, Emperor's New Groove is good too.
HIDY gang 👏
You know what other Disney movie is a masterpiece that had a disastrous production?
Treasure Planet. Disney straight up murdered it. One of the best movies they ever dropped. The story of the movie really is a tragedy.
Holy shit man. I fuckin missed you. This probably sounds insane but this popped up on my feed and I clicked, clicked your channel and started scrolling, I used to adore PBFB and really most things you've done on this platform over the past 20ish years
I love this movie! It even has Eartha Kitts!
When I rewatched it in college, I was blown away with how wild it is. Loved it!
When we saw the film in the theater, we thought, as did many others, that the ride down to the lab _needs_ to be a new roller coaster. I don't think I'll ever see it done, but wouldn't that be so cool?
This film came out just after my brother died… I saw it at the cinema and it made me laugh more than I thought I would!
In the 25 years since this movie came out I have never once heard Kronk described as Yzma’s boyfriend and I laughed out loud because that’s so real.
I’m pretty sure my dad, my sister, and I were responsible for 20% of their profits lol. We saw that movie at least 8 times and we alternated between The Grinch and The Emperor’s New Groove in theatres!
The emperor's new groove, chicken little, and lelo and stitch all have the same (phenomenal) energy to me.
This movie is so underrated! Definitely one of my favorites. Loved the tv series too.
This movie is definitely my favorite Disney movie! The Brazilian dubbing is absolutely iconic - it's a bit funny seeing the original voices
It really feels miraculous that the movie is so good after how many hands it went through and all the trouble the production has.
I thought you were kidding about the $100m budget but it was indeed that much
Longtime fan, Bing! It’s nice to see you around RUclips again. Good vid! Excited to watch more of your stuff.
I'm really looking forward to watching this series. Thanks for making this!
I think I died a little after he said it's 25 years old. God damn, I remember watching this on vhs!
I was ten when this came out. The last time I saw it was four years ago. That’s probably the longest I’ve gone without watching it. I wouldn’t be surprised if found out I have seen it over a hundred times.
We watch TENG about once a week and my family can all pretty much quote the entire movie.
I grew up with this movie and had no idea that Kronk was supposed to be Ezma's boyfriend.
Omg, I LOVED this film as a kid! I often think about it and wonder if it's a weird fever dream that was never real.
Crunk should have his own series
I love this movie! I can’t believe it will be 25 years old this year! Same age as me!
My kiddo wanted to watch the Garfield movie and i surprisingly loved it. Makes sense it was from the director of my favorite Disney movie! Awesome video, thanks for making it.
NO WAY ITS BINGGGG I grew up with you guys from cakebomb and tomska. Hope everything’s going well man
I’ve watched this movie thousands of times. Favorite movie for my best friend and me.
Also the chef thing always makes me think of Sword and Stone when Merlin is shoving his whole ass house into his doctor bag. 💼
No WAY, there's a theatrical release.
"This movie turns 25 this year..."
OH NO! The passage of time!
The reason it's so great is because it's a warner bros daffy duck cartoon.
i remember this came out when i was 12, because i wanted to see a 12-rated film in the cinema but my parents wouldn't let me go alone (at the time you couldn't take my younger siblings into 12 films). so i went into this feeling upset and then ... couldn't help loving the film and remembering it as an all-time favourite. edit: it apparently came out when i was 13, (Feb 2001 in the UK) so idk
I always had a soft spot for the unloved Disney movies. Treasure Planet deserves a mention too. The animation was incredible

I hope you can cover the amount of (very good) queer references in the movie that they managed to get through the door that Disney would never let through if they were watching it like their usual productions
19:08 So if they they tell stories from European cultures it's exclusionary, but if they go outside of Europe then it's appropriation.
My friend, I'm currently in an emperor's new groove hyper fixation, thank you for this
There's a Gameboy color game of this movie, and it's essentially an unrelated platformer. Not bad tho
No way I'm that age too
Hopefully this won’t get a live action remake.
We pray every day
Bro, I LOVE Cats Don't Dance. Such a good movie

Loved this whole thing except for the Kronk "bf" part, they clearly had a mother and son or friendly relationship

I really would have loved to have seen Kingdom of the Sun, but I still love what we got as it is an enjoyable and funny movie.
it's also the only disney movie that's... kinda hot...
I’ve always loved this movie the comedy, animation style, and the beautiful architecture of the Mayan culture is why it’s one of my favorite movies
I still adore this movie. I quote from it often.
The thief and the cobbler.
It was an actual fun movie
18:59 moanna? Lol
This is one of my favorite Disney movies. It's so quotable! I laugh loudly every time I watch it.
