Your conclusion is on point. Before feeling limited, verify if device has truly given it all. Volca Sample in particular is full of secrets. If you install the Pajen 7 Firmware, then you can really get lost in the forest.
This is a great video. I’m also digging deeper in to loop and granular aspect of the sample. The idea he said about extending the pattern length using the loop function is rad. i never thought of it that way.
Hope you don't mind a quick question - how do you go about programming specific notes for a pattern? Can you use the Midi In and program it via external keyboard, or is there an internal way (aside from messing with the pitch knob)?
For the original VS with stock firmware, the only way is via the pitch knob (as far as I know). Holding Function while adjusting the knob lets you adjust pitch in semitones, which is super helpful, but a keyboard option would definitely be nice haha. But it's possible that the VS2 (or the custom firmware for the VS1) fixed this. IIRC, there's also a special MIDI cable available that converts MIDI notes into something that the Sample can use. Personally, I like the clunkiness of the pitch knob method. It's like the note entry on the original TB-303: messy, time consuming, and inexact, but it leads "mistakes" that are often more interesting than the intended sequence haha.
@@thatbeet Dang, this is so much more of an answer than I was expecting. Thank you so much. I've got the Sample V2, so I'll have to look into it. I agree that the clunkyness is kinda fun, but it would be nice if you could use the sequencer like a standard keyboard and set the notes that way. I'm just a hobby musician. I am to music what a pencil doodler is to visual art... but I have fun creating, and to me that's the most important part. Music (and art in general) is a great outlet to express (and maybe relieve) emotions.

I'm only a few days in to Volca Sample ownership and find videos like this one particularly helpful. I liked the concise delivery too. Thank you.

This is really informative!! Thanks for all of these awesome videos!
I have the OG Volca Sample and Volca Beats. This is an immense help to me. 😁😁😁
Fascinating information, thank you! I like the little carrying case you have the Sample in. Are you excited about Volca Sample Version 2?

Thank you for this excellent tip !
That is a freaking sweet T-shirt!
Was my best friend's first synth. (Mine was the 106).
Great information in this video, but the jump cuts were nauseating after a while. I'll be giving these Volca Sample tricks a try shortly.
you might as well want to install pajen´s alternative firmware to go even further (way further) whith that little machine ;)
Hi, how could I connect the volca to a midi controller? Would I need a controller with midi out though? I have an Arturia MINILAB MKII
