This is GREAT Ron. Loved actually seeing someone ride into Ovando from their camera perspective. Great to meet you and get to chat with you and Zack and the Kiwis! Wonderful story telling! To the next time!!!!! Kathy
Thanks Kathy! It's a lovely place to stop on a journey like this. I first rode through in 2018 on the Lewis & Clark route. We ate at the stray bullet but didn't stay the night. I look forward to this summer.
Hey Ron! Fun videos! Really surprised to see huckleberry hunters Paul and Marlene! That story Paul told of cyclists riding up the wrong road was that of Paul Brasby and me in 2021! When we rode downhill back to our missed turn, there was California Ken! Paul didn't tell you the rest of that story, where they welcomed us to stay at their nearby home and hosted a fabulous steak dinner, with all the home-spun fixings! The best meal and best Trail Angel experience of the entire ride! Thanks for sharing!
Here's a link to an article I wrote about that experience, with a few pictures. blackhillsbackbone.blogspot.com/2021/09/trail-angels-on-great-divide-marlene.html
Great job. Your positive attitude makes your videos a pleasure to watch. I've watched a few other RUclips series about the GDMBR where they do a lot of complaining about one thing or another. That makes it not fun to watch. I'm sure when it's my turn next summer I'll be cursing the climbs too but no one will hear it but me.
Thanks. I tried to accurately represent my experience without moaning too much. The good outweighed the bad. Have a great time out there. Maybe I'll see you.
I love your vids, Ron. They are quite well done. Very enjoyable and all that. I would have picked huckleberries for eight hours and then made pancakes for another eight.
I’m looking forward to your next episode. I have greatly enjoyed viewing your series of GDMBR videos ( multiple times) What fantastic travel companions you met on your adventure. Cheers
So much beauty! I'm not at all fond of that single track section with the huge drop off! The first time I rode it in '16 I screamed the whole way. 😅 In '19, I clenched my teeth and tried not to look down. I've stayed in the Wagon in Ovando as well. So fun to see these beautiful sections I've ridden previously. Thanks Ron! -Bonnie G
That narrow section took me by surprise, and I probably wld have walked it if I had time to think 😅. I'm glad August was filming as I rode over it though. Thanks for watching!
Hi Ron, those horizontal trees nailed/lashed to trees aren't bear hangs. They are for hunters hanging up game (e.g. deer). Bear hangs are much higher, at least 10 feet or more to the bottom of the foodbag. Bears can stand on their hind legs & then arm reach.
Did you ever figure out what was biting you in the back? Little Bill sure knows how to enjoy a campsite. Sometime, if we ever meet in person, I'll have to tell you about the time I came across a family of, shall we say, "rube," huckleberry pickers while backpacking in Montana. Loved the sequence of your group pushing up that single track at the 10:00 mark. Most of the gravel looks pretty tempting. Can you tell I'm commenting as I watch? Wasn't Ovando the place where I read about a gal getting dragged out of her tent and mauled by a bear? If so, I'm glad you got some sort of hard-sided shelter. I bet you're a better botanist than I am. Nice to see Jen met up with you at the end of this chapter. Beautiful scenery and good music throughout.
I look forward to hearing about your huckleberry experience. Another commenter ran into the same couple last year, and we're actually the people that got lost! Ovando was that place. Luckily they have a lot of hard sided places to shelter, and they are such friendly and helpful people. I'm getting the feeling that you should take on a section of this route pretty soon, say 2024....

Wow, small world! I had forgotten their names, so thanks for your comment. They were very generous to share their patch.
Enjoying the series! Thanks
Thanks for watching! I'm heading back out there in late June.

Hi Craig, yeah I realized that after I said it, and probably should have edited it out. I could almost have jumped up and grabbed it 😀

Oh, and the back biters were horseflies. Hundreds of bloodthirsty SOBs.
I’m really enjoying your videos. Thanks a bunch for sharing. I’d like to do this ride in 3 years, once I retire.
Put it on your list! Thanks for watching.
Happy New Years! Here's to the Divide in 2024, Happy Trials everyone!
Thanks for watching!
We've been looking forward to part 4. Now wheres the popcorn?
Dang, I lack self control and ate all of it!
where do you get your music from?

Is there a paid site that has head and the heart that can be used?
