Most countries celebrate "Workers' Day" (as in, you know, the actual people) and some others just a distant abstract noun: "Labour Day". Think about it.

Having a baby is a choice. Taking take of that baby is a choice (albeit an easy one). Therefore, not contributing to the company is a choice. Not being paid is the logical outcome. If my right front wheel decided to not function for 6 weeks, I'd replace it too. Why? because I (my own company) have places to go.
Paid Maternity leave is a BONUS not a right.

That's fine you can have your choice. But most of these countries you tout FORCE me to pay for your fat ass...or the other way round. Neither of which is reasonable. I didn't make the choices that led to your unhealthy life, you didn't make the choices that led to mine. Why should the state force us to pay for each other? People can, will , and do function on these needs outside of the state. For instance, in the US people have been forming little coalitions of 100-200 people who purchase medical insurance and a personal doctor for themselves and only use the insurance AFTER they have a reasonable diagnosis from their doctor. No state needed.

Did I say that? No I didn't. People can pool resources for rare accidents like they've always done. Why do I need the government's involvement? Even Bernie admitted that his plan would cost everyone ~5000 more a year. He argued that we would save because of the higher cost. But I don't even pay 5000 a year for my insurance now. How does a yearly increase happen with no additional benefit? Government mismanagement at its finest.

Yes they will charge me, but at a rate I can supply otherwise no deal. This is creating a voluntary market. They don't have to insure me, but they'll have to forego my revenue then. This is why unions can work. Again, I don't need the government's monopoly of force to make this work.

Universal healthcare increases access yes. But any good that is free is overconsumed. EG Obamacare is already running over estimates and is literally failing. LOL and Bernie wants to freaking double down. As I've said people are getting their own healthcare already, and many doctors are refusing to become state licensed in order to practice how they want. Americans appear to not want what you are peddling (at least in some areas). And some of these alternatives are proving cheaper than our system prior to Obamacare.

There's nothing inherently wrong with labor unions or workers rights, but 8 hour work days and many other legal restrictions hinders workers rights by restricting the choices they may make.
Ultimately competition and the ability to choose others is what protects both employees and employers from abuse. Not legislation.
