    One of my favorite games, and barely anyone gives it the time of day. I love the Mad Max series and the game perfectly realized the bleakness, loneliness, and savage nature of the post-apocalypse with that classic surrealist bent that the movies had. It feels like such a fully realized world, despite being so empty. It was ominous to drive around, recovering fragments of lives lost in the past, as Max ponders his own existence and purpose in the world. On top of the world building and atmosphere, it also has incredible and rewarding combat that truly makes you feel the brutality of the actions Max is unleashing and the rage that fills him up.

    As an Aussie you have to remember Mad Max in Australia is a cultural icon. Australia has a very strong car culture and the Mad Max Pursuit Special (It was never referred to as the "Interceptor" in the Movies and is not the official nomenclature of that vehicle) is very much considered a character in the original film. As an older guy who saw Mad Max II in the cinema there were outraged cries of "Noooooo!!!!" when the Mad Max Pursuit Special rolled and was destroyed at the start of the film. On this point ACG is absolutely correct in regards to the game.
    Edit: Also many of the car designs in Mad Max are inspired by vehicles from a movie called "The Cars That Ate Paris" (1974) which you should check out (Ironically another Australian Film).

    Mad Max is a near perfect open world game.
    Pros:
    - amazing story that stays true to the Mad Max films and builds upon them
    - great characters, especially Chumbucket, who is a terrific sidekick with a story of his own that is surprisingly deep
    - voice acting is top notch
    - gameplay is probably the best I've ever played, with incredible car battles and hand to hand combat. This was done perfectly
    - environment is so rich and interesting, that I wonder how they managed to cram so much detail into it. It gives the player the feeling of realism that I've never experienced in another game
    - the airport missions were absolutely terrifying
    Cons:
    - enemies became a little predictable. Enemy arms should have included either firearms or crossbow weapons.
    - motorcycle vehicles would have taken road combat to another level
    - the dog could have had a much greater role by using him to attack enemy combatants
    - the walking nomads Max meets should have played a bigger role in the game
    All in all, the pros far outweigh the cons. I'm so hoping Avalanche makes a sequel!

    For starters, maybe we can actually get car customization that isn't just one flat improvement over the last.
    Too many games do these really dumbed down progression systems and it's a huge shame.

    Love this video because I loved this game and not many people talks about it! One thing I found funny is, for a game about a torn and violent world, the storytelling is heavy on "show don´t tell" details, a recurse very delicate and for a more subtle kind of games, and this makes exploration very rewarding.

The environmental effects, like heat haze, smoke and dust/sandstorms were spot on and gave a real good impression of a sand-blasted, post-apocalyptic world. Some of the locations you visit are also really well-designed and interesting to explore.

    I literally can do anything with MadMax, pick up one week, play another game and return right back where I was. It’s such a free spirit with a welcoming message to keep returning to play. I don’t have many other games who does this, maybe Oddworld or sports orientated games like fifa and nfs, but MadMax is quite unique, the fighting mechanics are so satisfying that is hard to forget. The sense of repetitiveness gives the opportunity to put the game on the shelf, play something else and come back a in a week, is that kind of game that doesn’t make you stranded to complete. It’s fun and enjoyable progression. 8 out of 10 on my book. Got SteelBook case on Comicon last year, I have the physical and digital copies. Is right up there with Uncharted, God of War, or even Ghost of Tsushima, or to mess things up through in Wreckfest and there you have a combination of games who bounce from each other. I’m a Evil Within kind a guy, so when frustrations kicks in, is good to have a plan B with MadMax, literally I can fit this game anywhere. It’s crazy! Great video. Congrats.

    Damn fine game, altough I wish it was more of a survivalist where you're always starved for resources, fuel is just ridiculously abundant and your car sips gas more efficiently then a hybrid car, you never run out even before upgrading the gas milage.

    • @Valks-22
      @Valks-22 3 года назад

      There's a fine line between interesting game mechanics and annoying ones.
      R* said they could put in the fuel system in GTA but why? What if you run out in the middle of no where or enter a near empty car during a chase.
      In Mad Max it would just mean walking for 20 minutes to a probably previously cleared outpost and walk back to fill your car. With a well equipped late game character you'd have no issues dealing with a patrol if you encountered one.
      You still care and occassionaly fill up but not the point where it is intrusive and annoying.
      Take Days Gone for example, love the game but again before the fuel tank upgrades it's not an issue of running out of fuel in the environment - just the hassle of constantly refueling.

    • @SynthLizard8
      @SynthLizard8 3 года назад +1

      @@Valks-22 You're talking from your own subjective taste some people like those survival aspects like having to constantly, eat, sleep and drink, besides, the idea of running out of gas in the middle of nowhere, hiking it to find more on your own then stealing a bandit's ride back to refill your own car as a form of punishment for your carelessness is compelling to survivalist fans.
      Games like Death Stranding and Dark Souls show that people aren't afraid of owning their in-game responsibilities and being punished for their failure.
      Taking away Mad Max's scarcity of gussoline is like taking away Metro's scarcity of pre-war bullets.

    • @Valks-22
      @Valks-22 3 года назад

      @@SynthLizard8 agreed but you have to consider trial-and-error repeat of fights in DS is not the same as a 15minute slog/forced pause to pick up A and bring it to B for no other reason than to proceed.
      It is my perspective, sure, but I am confident in claiming such 'pointless' penalization of the average player(base) would be poorly received and might affect sales.
      However I have no issues in it being implemented as an optional - i.e. survivor modes of sorts or sleep/food in Fallout for those who wish to experience it that way

    I'm sure I've commented many times on this channel how much I loved this game and how many times I've played it, but it still surprises me that it never got proper mod support. It's such a good game world that having some sort of mission maker would really add some punch to end-game activities other than doing one more 100% run of all the little collectibles, cars, etc. Convoys were so much fun that I always wanted that to be an infinite end-game activity, though the big storms chasing scrap crates was also a big draw for me.
    How Avalanche went from this to Rage 2 boggles the mind.

    Yes. The towers and camps aren’t just a copy and paste of each other, they get more interesting as you progress through the game.
    There are balloons that aren’t fueled, or the generators that power the winches arent fueled but there weren’t any fuel cans around like with other balloons! So you have to prepare or go out and scavenge in an unknown region until you have the resources to fuel that balloon and mark places on the map.
    Furthermore, the Magnum Opus can only take one can and you don’t know how much fuel is in it until you use it to fuel something. There have been instances where I trekked to get a can only to realize that it didn’t have enough fuel for the balloon to gain altitude. So I had to scavenge and hunt all over again! Absolutely awesome!
