Thanks Michael for the memories. This was THE ONE AND ONLY toy store. Its relevant now that Toys R Us is closing, because I had a very long conversation about this point with my best friend. She never had the opportunity to go to FAO as a kid. To be honest, it was a very very expensive store, but when you entered it, you really had the magic. In Home Alone 2, they tried to replicate FAO in the make believe "Duncan's toy chest" but the REAL THING meaning FAO, was way way better than even the movie could create. "Welcome to the world of toys!~" This store was featured in the movie BIG with Tom Hanks and Robert Loggia dancing on that floor length piano. I remember in the 80s going here with my parents and grandpa. My grandpa was a very successful businessman and he would bring us all over, and there were displays in the 80s of $1000+ life sized stuffed animals. That store was expensive lets get real. The best thing about FAO, was the clock song, and the STAFF that was paid to let the kids play with the product. It was a real experience for children going into the store. Toys R Us in Times Square tried to do that with the Ferris wheel and all that crap, and they had staff showing off flying stuff or card but the magic wasn't the same. Remember FAO was doing that in the 80s. Like the decades past of a calendar, you can't replicate what was gone, but maybe you can learn from it. What a wonderful store, and thank you Michael.
Unfortunately, I believe this flagship store has closed. While historic and iconic, rent in the district got too high for them to sustain. This video is now a bit of a history lesson. :) (and :( )
Yepper Skipper Do! It has re opened, and revamped everything about it, even the clock tower, but kept their purpose. (I'm actually glad the clock tower was revamped, because that clock is SCARY.)
Thank you for this. I miss this wonderful, beautiful magical place.

FAO Schwarz is back.
@@Ih8kone Let's hope it is here to stay (and expand to Canadian soil with a permanent retailer there on Yonge Street)
@@alexanderip1003 And you know that toys R Us came back last year right?
@@Ih8kone I Hope both will survive (and the Flag store *rebuilt with the ferris wheel)
*This time powered by Geothermal electricity
@@alexanderip1003 or maybe it could have a carousel like the Hamleys in downtown Prague!
The movies Big and Home Alone 2 were filmed there..

What a shame that they had to close a venerable store. They could have closed "American Girl Place" instead.
Guess what! It's open again!

Definitely one of those wind type fairies that are always sassy, although I never saw her in the video.
