It really depends on the area. You have to remember that the US is much bigger, so there is going to be much more diverse standards. In certain part of the south, it's very common, although illegal. Many people will drink with adult family members under supervision. Some just get drunk regardless, but it's often seen as normal teen activities. You know the "we were all kids once" gets used a lot when it comes to underage drinking. I am 20 and I haven't touched booze in 2 years eves. Half of my friends are past their drunk phase as well. Obviously, that's anecdotal, but there are plenty of sources that show how common underage drinking is in the US; I cannot link them due to RUclips. I also do not think unsupervised drinking is good for minors, but it is normalized in many parts of the US.
