Walt Simonson turning Thor into a bullfrog is one of the standout moments in the history of my comic reading. From Thor, Fantastic Four, X-Factor, Superman and New Mutants Walt and Louise Simonson has made a impact on my life in this genre
An absolute classic Walt story for sure that Thor Frog story. Though none the less, I’ll be a pro mutant guy any and everyday. Be it Apocalypse or whoever!? No matter. I view En Sabuh Nur or Magneto is close to myself.
more with the Simonson's these two did more to make Marvel as great as it was in the 80's than anyone outside of Claremont, and their contributions should never be minimized. huge fan of both.
She would understand that more than almost anyone else. We were all disappointed by that version of movie Apocalypse on some level, even if they enjoyed the film.
@@KTF0 I concur, Apocalypse was just too average to "normal" looking in height and physique for it to be fully recognized as the threat that most fans knew him to be.
Great interview Mike! You are getting better and better all the time. I really love this series. The Simonsons are absolute treasures and master storytellers. Wish you guys could do longer versions of these, though that could just be me being greedy, lol.
Love Walt's Thor run obviously, and Louise's X-Factor run is phenomenal. However my favorite issue from both is X-Factor #24 the first appearance of Archangel.
Chris Claremont didn't invent Wolverine, but it's obvious that the character's massive success is fully due to him. Claremont turned him from a one issue throwaway villain to Marvel's single most popular character for a few decades. The same story is true with Rob Liefeld and Cable.
Stuff like this makes me crave for a Marvel Comics Documentary, I'd love to hear from all the legends of the different decades!! As successful as the movies, it still saddens me that a lot of these true artist and visionaries go unrecognized or forgotten...If Beta Ray Bill ever pops up in the MCU Walt Simonson should be in the movie w/ CGI to make him look like he did in the 80s....Marvel needs to start doing stuff like that and stop giving Stan Lee all the credit and recognition...Chris Claremont deserves to be in X-men as a cameo than Stan Lee
I'm a big fan of Walt's Manhunter. It was incredible and featured gorgeous costumes and weaponry, including one of the most beautiful guns of all time, the Mauser C-96. I was so happy a few years back when I went into my local hobby store, which also sold comics and saw the stories had been collected into a graphic novel. Instant sale!
Simonson and Moorcock's Elric prequel is amazing. I've been on a quest to get every simonson cover ever, haha. There's Kirby and there's Simonson and there's everyone else. The first StarSlammers was my most precious possession as a kid. My wall was covered in Thor and ff covers. Thank you Walt and Weezy, Master Storytellers!
Loved Power Pack especially when they swapped powers with each other and anything Walt drew, I gladly bought. I never knew the details mentioned about the Mutant Massacre. That was one of the most exciting and enjoying storylines i ever read growing up. That image of Angel stuck to the wall with those harpoons in his wings are burned into my memories 4 ever. Only to see him later in a X Factor issue inside a helicopter that explodes, but then reborn. Classic stuff!!! They just dont make 'em like they use to!!👍👍👍
Thanks so much for this interview! These two are my comic book heroes. I started seriously collecting comics just as X-Factor got going. I can't tell you what a bummer it was when they left the book, and it would never reach those heights again (with the possible exception of Whilce Portacio's brief run on it). Check out the two-issue story line -- X-Factor #13-14 -- when Scott Summers goes back to Alaska to find out what happened to Madeline Pryor and encounters a resurrected Master Mold. Really good stuff.
louise is right about apocalyse on the big screen completely got him wrong....marvel studios doesn't always have the greatest track record for villians either but there is nowhere to go but up
Quick story if anyone cares to read it: my brother and I flew up to New York to attend NYCC. Half of the artists and creators refused to sign books, one specific guy would refuse to sign books or even talk to you, then lie about when he would come back to sign stuff. It was an absolute awful experience. And then, we met the Simonsons. They were the most genuine people.
I asked Walt why he spoiled the reveal of Death's face on the cover of XFactor 24. And he laughed and said he'd never thought of it that way. He then drew Death's mask on my book and signed it. Then showed it off to Chris Claremont, laughing that he had to do an alt cover 30 years after the fact. Louise took a picture of him with his creation for their memories, laughing the whole time.
NYCC was saved. All thanks to a few "happy to be there" creators. So thank you to Chris Claremont, Larry Hama, and most importantly Walt and Louise Simonson.
Jordan Fallow I never really had that experience myself up at the NYCC over the years, when I went to several panels with giants such as Sheldon Moldoff and Al Jaffe and Murphy Anderson And after the panel they were always happy to sign a Golden Age comic if you asked politely, Of course this was before you started having to pay $30-$50-$100 (in the case of Stan Lee) for an autographed comic.
I was kind of shocked to see how old Walt and Weezi look. Then I remembered something: Thor, Power Pack, X-Factor. All of those came out when I was a teenager. I'm over 50 now> Gads!
Power Pack is likely the reason I am not in jail. That was my first comic and it made a huge impact in my life. In a way Alex Jack Julie and Katie were my family.
I love the Simonsons...especially Walt, but no one "co-created" Cable. Rob Liefeld created Cable...he designed him and named him, they wanted to name him something else, Liefeld was going to scrap the character if that happened.
It's funny how Fox is like "your character was messed up, but we fixed the dumb parts," and the original creators are like "you still don't get it. Everyone is disappointed in what you've done."
I agree with Louise. The way Fox butchered Apocalypse in that movie was terrible. I'm sure the MCU version of Apocalypse will be way better than what we got before onscreen.
My only comment on these videos is stop editing them down! We so rarely get to see this level of creator being interviewed, and you're only showing us snippets!
Walt Simonson turning Thor into a bullfrog is one of the standout moments in the history of my comic reading. From Thor, Fantastic Four, X-Factor, Superman and New Mutants Walt and Louise Simonson has made a impact on my life in this genre
Same here!
Same here. The Mighty Thor, & X-Factor runs were game changers for the characters and the industry!
his FF run wasnt that great!
An absolute classic Walt story for sure that Thor Frog story. Though none the less, I’ll be a pro mutant guy any and everyday. Be it Apocalypse or whoever!? No matter. I view En Sabuh Nur or Magneto is close to myself.

"the most disappointing on screen was Apocalypse" preach Louise!
She would understand that more than almost anyone else. We were all disappointed by that version of movie Apocalypse on some level, even if they enjoyed the film.
@Scott Summers Very true on both counts! Haha!
She even complained about his height. That was my first complaint. They could've CG'd his height. His costume was terrible as well.
@@KTF0 I concur, Apocalypse was just too average to "normal" looking in height and physique for it to be fully recognized as the threat that most fans knew him to be.
Don't forget they were both in the 1st Thor movie. Their scene was right near the end at the celebration feast.
Walt Simonson's run on Thor is for me the only one that I rank up there with Jack Kirby's Thor run.
Think it might be better just story wise
Great interview with these comic greats! Walt Simonson’s Thor is legendary.
Reading Power Pack was one of my first comic memories. Those big goofy boots!
And Walt is one of my favorites. If anything he's underrated.
This was my favorite SyFy interview, thanks Mike!
I love her brutal honesty about the terrible portrayal of Apocalypse in the Fox franchise. These two don't get enough credit and props.
These two are legends in the industry.
ArchAngel is a top 5 favorite character of mine.
Great interview Mike! You are getting better and better all the time. I really love this series. The Simonsons are absolute treasures and master storytellers. Wish you guys could do longer versions of these, though that could just be me being greedy, lol.
TheComicBoss I wish I could’ve done a 2-hour version - there’s so much to talk about with them ...and they tell GREAT stories!
Even the original creators believe that Hollywood is messing up their creations.
Love Walt's Thor run obviously, and Louise's X-Factor run is phenomenal. However my favorite issue from both is X-Factor #24 the first appearance of Archangel.
Archangel, Apocalypse, Frog Thor...the characters alone (via these two)...dude...
Lavender Jack...Swooping On Down.
Chris Claremont didn't invent Wolverine, but it's obvious that the character's massive success is fully due to him. Claremont turned him from a one issue throwaway villain to Marvel's single most popular character for a few decades. The same story is true with Rob Liefeld and Cable.
Simonson's Orion, not Sandman, is the most literate comic DC ever published. It was a brilliant treatise on power dynamics around free will .
these guys are legends. Also Louise is the proof that women can write badass stories and not everything has to be canon tumblr fan-fiction
I have met them both multiple times and they are both national treasures.
Wow!!!! They have written some of the most iconic stories of all time
Props to her for being honest about Apocalypse.
We need more people like them in comics now
The Simonsons made my childhood fun! Learned the meaning and spelling of alot big words from this duo. Thank you!
Great interview! Two very very very nice people. I met them @ my college s c a d. They are really good writers artists and guest speakers
Louise on Apocalypse in movie: I was perturbed.
Translation: That was some f**king bull***t!!!!
Video was too short! The Simonsons have a thousand great stories! Plus Walt's recent Ragnarok story is great! Also read Walt's Orion!
Havoc•Wolverine: Meltdown ⚡️
the thumbnail of the video is an extract of x-factor 34! Excellent duo on x-factor!
Love this show. Hope Beta Ray Bill is in the next movie.
Mike and Comics are another dynamic duo!
Her opinion of Apocalypse made me thumbs up this video, they wasted a great actor and a great character in that film
Awesome. Reading X Factor currently 🙋🏿♂️
classic X-Factor is awesome

I've read their stuff for decades but have never actually seen them in the flesh. They might be my favorite couple of all time.
Oh...Louise was FINE fine.... and she’s still gorgeous.
Thank you, Walt & Weezie for creating so much epicness.
Behind the Panel is the best Syfy Wire series
Yes

This was just great. Thanks.
Fantastic interview.
At 11:27, I think that Rian Johnson owes Walt Simonson some money 😜
I've read his Orion run. That's what made me interested in The New Gods
I really love Walt’s art on the Metal Men from the 70’s. Truly mind-bending & fun in all the right ways
louise is right about apocalyse on the big screen completely got him wrong....marvel studios doesn't always have the greatest track record for villians either but there is nowhere to go but up

for an autographed comic.
Amazing! Thanks so much !
WONDERFUL!!!!! Thank you for sharing their lives with us!!!!! BRAVO!!!! I applaud their efforts in entertaining and inspiring a generation. PEACE.
Met them in an elevator a few years back at SDCC and they were so nice, love these two.
I love their run on Thor. One of my fav. Runs!
I'm so glad she said Apocalypse. I like Oscar Isaac, but god awful casting. Plus he seemed to hate the process which shows in the performance.
Meet them a few years ago. They are fantastic people. Great to their fans.
I loved Power Pack. I wish it lasted longer.
I was kind of shocked to see how old Walt and Weezi look. Then I remembered something: Thor, Power Pack, X-Factor. All of those came out when I was a teenager. I'm over 50 now> Gads!
Walt Simonson is one of the best and most prolific artist in the history of comics
Simonson one of my favorite all time comic book artists!
Comicdom's royal couple right there!!!Respect!!!
i love this couple
I really enjoyed that, I just got learned bravo!!...
I have heard the Owl/Apocalypse before; it still makes me chuckle.
Frog-Thor was great. He also stole a Ditko/Spiderman panel sequence.
The Simonsons are some of the nicest people I have ever met!
Power Pack is likely the reason I am not in jail. That was my first comic and it made a huge impact in my life. In a way Alex Jack Julie and Katie were my family.
love apocalyspe's look in those early x factor issues
Very nice people to boot!
Thanks for filling in a gap in my puny knowledge. Best buy something of theirs now I guess
The style on those pencils takes me right back to my childhood.
Homie look like Coach Red Pill
Heartwarming to see them together.
Awesome!!! They’re cool!!
Use to LOVE Power Pack!!
That sounded a lot like just Rob creating Cable.🧐
I agree with Louise. The way Fox butchered Apocalypse in that movie was terrible. I'm sure the MCU version of Apocalypse will be way better than what we got before onscreen.
Please Walt come back to Thor.
Oh my God they are so cute! I already loved them. Walt's Thor vs the Midgard Serpent is the greatest comic of all time! All splash pages!
My only comment on these videos is stop editing them down! We so rarely get to see this level of creator being interviewed, and you're only showing us snippets!
I’ve always thought Archie Goodwin was the best name ever.
SO COOOOL!!!!
Yup! That apocalypse in the movie was soo horrible 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️
The Rock should have been Apocalypse. Or maybe Momoa.
Strange Land forever! 10:23
I thought Cable was created by Rob Liefeld.
He thought too, apparently.
The greatest character in Marvel is Beta Ray Bill. Can't wait for his turn in the MCU
Beta Ray ,who?!
My parents lol
They should be rich
cool
Weezie ! 😊
First comment
She totally ripped off Rob Liefeld's character. what a shame?!
