The problem as I understand it is that we are moving toward monoculture, and that cultural drift is bound to eventually lead us to some pretty bad places. I agree that none of the realistic alternative’s sound at all appealing, in fact they all seem to involve betraying core values. Fortunately, there is at least one other option. What if we simply redouble our efforts to anchor the culture to core values that the majority can agree upon, values like peace, liberty, and justice… while there is definitely some stinky bathwater in our culture, there has also been an expanding envelope of liberty and justice as equal rights and equal opportunity continue to expand. That is a precious cultural child that we need to treasure instead of toss out.
