Love this band and want to let other fans now something about the lead singer Rob Dickinson. He is the cousin of lead singer Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden a heavy metal band from the 80's. I met Rob in the early 90's doing promo for my college radio KUCR and he told me.
This is excellent quality for a 2008 concert video! So glad to find videos like this. Thank you. I only just found out about Catherine Wheel in 2021 because someone mentioned Black Metallic and I looked it up. Not only did I miss seeing them play, but I missed Rob solo. 😩
Saw these guys back in the 90's in Ann Arbor Michigan. They toured with Belly. They always had a unique sound. Definitely one of the most unappreciated and under rated bands of the 90's.
Fantastic song. Great solo - I always thought on the original that it would have been brilliant if, just before the breakdown, they had taken the guitars into a massive stratospheric crescendo - like one of Carlos Santana's mixed with what happens to Beth Gibbons' vocal on 'Half Day Closing'!! Still, one of my favourites of all time and I've listened to an awful lot of music.
1992 - Seattle... I wondered into one of the many great venues going back then. On tap was to be a new 'guitar band', aka 'shoe gazers' sponsored by our local alt radio station - who debuted this song that day... Yes, they were shoe gazers then. But I feel that same jolt of electricity now - as when I saw them live that night, my beer resting on the stage. Ps. I think there were only about 50 people there !
One of my top three or four or five bands. I've met them several times, top blokes all. I wish making fancy Porsche's for rich cunts didn't pay so well. Haha. ruclips.net/video/PaxKhR6FQwA/видео.html
Often wonder why he just jacked this all in aside from his now profitable occupation. Checking setlist FM and it seems like he could only ever manage 9 song sets. After 1 forgettable solo album and that, I guess it makes sense

Rob's vocals... He is singing as if he were finally free!
REUNITE! :)

Robs a fucking trooper. Sweat dripping from his brow as he bares his soul. A true frontman !
Badass!

Pioneer Square ??
They really did him dirty with that harsh lighting. Not flattering and he's sweating buckets from the heat of it, sheesh!
fekkin wonderful!
These guys had a lot more power under the hood. Sigh they never exposed.

Maybe it's just me, but I think Rob sings better without his band. His vocals are less restrained and the result sounds fucking beautiful
It could be that he's just happy to be back in the saddle and performing after so long.
GUITAR
Those vocals are awesome. Better than the record?
I want a singer 911 in black metallic

sometimes a great band only has a few songs in them
hicks727 Catherine Wheel have a whole shed load of great songs!!!
Chrome was full of great songs as was Ferment. But yeah, the latter parts of their discography went downhill fast
