I am descended from two Californio branches in my family - the Buelnas from Sinaloa and the Alvisos from Sonora - both in the 1700s. Our family has been in CA the whole time - around the Monterey/Salinas/Gonzales/Madera area and up to San Francisco. We were the poor ones though - no land, no property, mostly farmers and migrant farm workers.
So just a quick point. You mentioned the De Bartolo family owners of the 49ers being a Californio family. I dont think that info is correct. First of all the father Edward J De Bartolo Sr biological father passed prior to his birth his parents that were Italian were Anthony Paonessa and Rose Villani. So then his mother marries a man named Michael DeBartolo, and Edward took his stepfather's family name. Michael DeBartolo emigrated from Terlizzi, Apulia, Italy, with his family at age 17 and became a paving contractor and builder of warehouses and other structures.[1] While a teenager, Edward DeBartolo began working, translating paving contracts for his stepfather, who did not read or write English. So you can read all about this on Edward J DeBartolo Sr wikipedia page. So they were Italian and he was adopted by another Italian from Puglia Italy with the last name DeBartolo. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edward_J._DeBartolo_Sr.
My Salazar family came from Mexico to San Luis Obispo on a Spanish Land Grant and had a large rancho. One of the daughters married a Frenchman named Dallidat and you can still tour their adobe which they built on her family's land. A lot of Californias had their land stolen by the courts after statehood. When this happened to my line, they moved up to the Mariposa area to mine gold.
@@AFNick You mentioned you were Anglo in the above video, so I just thought I’d ask about your ethnicity(ies), since you struck me as Sicilian Italian in looks. Your demeanor and accent is typical modern Californian American. Thanks for ur reply!

Thanks for this one. I have wondered about this topic.
It is tangentially addressed in a half dozen Louis L'Amour books.

I am a descendent as are my two sisters. We are Californios. We have no property. Happy to connect if you find any old money for us. 🙏🏽
The Mexican immigrants are replacing you. Unlike Mexicans, you are SPANISH!

Very informative
Very interesting. More please!
Possible Topic, Rockefeller’s in Ceres, CA? Tied to Patterson, CA.
Quick question: Nick, are you “Anglo” (English, Scottish, etc.) or do you have Italian? You strike me as Sicilian Italian ethnically. Just curious. 🤷🏻
My Italian heritage comes from Tuscany. I am also of English, Portuguese, and Swiss decent. Do I come off as Anglo/Sicilian for some reason?
