    For katana 50 + looper
    Connect:
    -guitar to katana main input
    -katana line out to looper input
    -looper phones output to katana aux in
    It's done.

      Okay, I did something similar with my Donner Circle Looper. I have the output of the pedal board going into the effects loop return, which is placed after the preamp/EQ of the Katana but before the effects. This way I bypass the Katana preamp which I don't care for, but I can still use all the onboard effects. This all, of course, goes into the power amp, etc. I take the line out, which has the guitar and all the effects on it and run it to the looper input so I can still record guitar loops. Then I take the output of the looper and put it to the Katana aux input. So, it is very similar to your setup. My problem is that with this setup, the audio that I get out of the looper is very low, even with the level and the dB maxed out. Before, when I had the output of the looper directly into the amp input, the audio level was fine. With this current setup, it's so low that it is usually drowned out by the guitar. So I am curious if you have any audio level issues with your looper connected in this fashion? I would not think there would be any reason for the line out or especially the aux in to be suppressed somehow. That input it supposed to be for plugging in an MP3 player or some such device. So does this setup work for you?

      Late ass reply. What have you done 7 months later? I bought the 50 as my first amp, but I'm really considering to start getting into pedals, and the lack of an FX loop on the 50 has me thinking I should sell it and get a 100, or maybe even a different amp all together.

      @@NorHeadHunter @kajikanna The 50 ex has a line out so I think you can run that to the looper and run the looper output to the aux in. That way you could use the looper and still turn your guitar volume up, etc and that should work. You would need a 1/4" to 1/8" connector but they are available. Honestly, I have a looper, I never use it...they suck to get the timing right.

    I know people are claiming that they'd go with the 100 watt all day. For people with a budget like me and can't afford anything higher, the katana 50 is def worth it.

    • @sirbaguette8378
      @sirbaguette8378 2 года назад +15

      Problem with the 50 is that the more you use it, the more you'll realise how limiting it is. For example, the fact that you can't change tone while looping and there's not a lot of presets as well as the boss footswitch not being compatible
      Where I live, the 50w is €250 and the 100w is €375. So it'd be way better to just invest in the 100w straight away, rather than buying the 50w, then eventually upgrading to the 100w.

      I have both. They are both great amps. The 50 inspired me more than my Marshall stack when I heard the built in effects. I was blown away that I could have one guitar and one $200 amp, and make such incredible sounds without any pedals. It's worth getting the 50 and messing with the knobs until you know the settings in and out, because it's loud, sounds great, and is so versatile.

    • @bigrig4385
      @bigrig4385 2 года назад +5

      ^^ Everything I said about the 50w also applies to the 100w. If you are gigging, you might want the 100. If you are just a bedroom warrior, you'll be more than happy with either of them.

    There is one sentence that is very important that is missing: "Make sure the channel that goes to the loop has send and return ON".
    There is one switch that must be turned "on", otherwise it would not work. I was so frustrated there was nobody mentioned this. I searched every where no explanation about it. I was ready to bring it to the service center since I thought mine was damaged. Thank you very much Chief and Cheers from Indonesia. (whoopy dooper loop or something like that. 😃 )

  • @midgot
    @midgot 11 месяцев назад +3

    I bypassed this looper limitation on Katana 50 using this method, which is not THAT practical, but It's useful if you don't want to use a PC or anything else beyond the guitar's gear.
    I have a simple pedalboard (distortion, chorus and reverb/delay) and I use this pedalboard with the Looper on the very end of it, and I use an 6.35mm to 3.5mm jack adapter and plug that line of effects on the 3.5mm Aux In of Katana.
    Doing this I can use my pedalboard to generate an specific tone and record the looper sesson, and then using another 6.35mm cable I do plug my guitar on the Katana input to use its tone.
    The drawback of doing this is that you need to switch the 6.35mm jack cable on the guitar everytime you want to record another loop session to play over it and sometimes is kinda annoying to switch cables, but it's doable.

    For your viewers trying to decide between the 50 and 100, I can offer my experience. I played the 50 for four years and loved it. I did not need the power of the 100, but i wanted the effects loop and the capabilities of the GA-FC foot controller. I absolutely love both, and should have made the upgrade sooner. Aside form the added features that most videos mention, I think that the 100 actually sounds better than the 50....and quite noticeably so.

    I’m a born again musician on guitar 🎸 as of two years ago-originally a sax player-and just bought the 50 as an upgrade to my Marshall 15 watt solid state amp Ive been playing until now. I have a looper, a tube screamer, and that’s it.
    Since I’m still keeping things pretty basic as I figure out the Boss and what pedals I’m going to buy, it works out fine for now with the only effect difference I can control between loop overdubs being the tube screamer.
    I plan to build a full on pedal board, but until then I can do great with the Katana’s big library off effects I don’t really know yet. Even just reverb, I didn’t know the difference in the types until I tried each on the Katana.

    Ive bought 3 Katana 50’s over time, thought at first I had a bad one because of the noise. Brought it back and it Turned out there was no problem, they were just noisy. Got refunded and went on. This past year, I was going to buy the 100, got down to my music store and they only had the 50. The sales guy was not that savy and I ended up trying the new 50. The music store called me (good for them) they did have a 100, and I went back for that, paid the extra $100, and was pleasantly surprised by the tone quality. The 100 has a different speaker, and it is quieter at idle. I bought another 100 for the stereo effect. I dont think I can ever go back. I dont even use my pedal board just the GA-FC foot controller.

      Three Letter Acronyms, yes. I like yours also. Acronyms have, similar to the word, "like", got abused, like.....
      It's ironic cynicism I guess....
      I once went on a technical writing course, given by a professor from Cardiff University and he opened with telling us, "No TLA's will be used in this lesson". Of course, somebody had to ask the question on everybody's lips!
      Most documents/lessons, are given by folk who already fully understand how "it" works and they are giving instruction to others, who do not.
      We were instructed to always lecture, or write in such a way that your audience speaks English as a second language and not to show off. It sunk in.
      I do not recall you being there alongside me back in 1985, but swear that somehow you received the same message also!
      Thanks!

    Whoop DeDooper Loop!
    Thanks for the video, it was/is quite heavy on teaching how to use a looper pedal on the Katana 100, unfortunately (or fortunately in my case) I bought the Katana II 50 Watt. It's too bad that I don't have the 100, but I've found the 50 to produce plenty of heart pounding output. On my pedal board (at the very end) I do have my TC Ditto pedal. In my setup, I get the full features from my Katana, as well as the features from my pedal board - with Overdrive, Equalizer, Compressor and Ultra Metal pedals - my Katana 50 Watt sends out mind blowing sound that fills any of the places that I've played (not that I've played at too many places - yet, but I have high hopes to make the very best of what I have and Rock The Place Out!!!
    Thanks again! -GC

    I have an artist and love it. Your explanation rocked my world dude. I gig with it and the possibilities are endless. It's overwhelming right now but I'll get it. An A&B switch with a looper going into the amp in has a scad or options for gigging. I'm going to mess with it and see how much of a mess I can make...hehe OUr band has a gig Friday night and the club owner wants Comfortably numb and we only have one guitar. I'm going to cheat with a looper and see if I can make it work.

      It worked AWESOME! It took me a while to get it all coordinated but it came together pretty well. I have several tube amps and I find them finicky compared to the Katana Artist. The sound is AMAZING and it's got real punch. It's definitely my go to amp set up until something is a HELL of a lot better. I can't imagine anything being better. 43 lbs of awesome moldable sound that works anywhere. We mic everything so 50 watts is more than enough and that is loud as you need for stage volume. I HIGHLY recommend! @@xIIxGOBLINxIIx

    I had the Katana Air, but missed using my looper with effects as I'd traded a Marshall practise amp plus Boss Chorus and Blues Driver pedals in for it. I then traded the Air in for the 100 MkII and can now have a clean chorus sound for rhythm and I like a crunchy driven sound for leads. So I guess I'm back where I started, and I've lost money, but it's great fun anyway!! Whoopdedooperloop!

    I found a way to use the looper with the katana 50 without affecting the loop. I'm using a noise suppressor by boss before the looper. The output goes to the amp, the send goes to the looper and the output of the looper to a different amp. Not simple by any means but that way I can use the built-in effects (not record them though) over the looper pedal, without affecting the loops

    Hi there thanks for the video. I have a Vox AC 10 and A Katana 50 and I use a stereo looper (Boomerang). I use a lot of strymon pedals for ambient guitar in Stereo so the Katana 50 is more then enough to pair with my small Vox.

    Loopty doopty doo and all that stuff. Yes I did watch this one to the end and a few others of yours and I did Subscribe. You helped me prove my Sweetwater Rep wrong because I emailed him asking if the 'power amp in' jack would bypass the Katana effects and serve as a FRFR speaker because I have the Boss GT-1 and GT-100 pedal boards and I couldn't set my tones right using my little Marshall practice amp. He told me no and that I should get a Headrush. But the Headrush is an 8" speaker and very directional. You have to be directly in front of it to hear it right or put it across the room from you. So I did a little research myself and now I know the Katana is what I want.

    Well, as usual, I’m late to the party…anyway, I just picked up a NUX Stereo Looper with a built in Drum Kit. I just started using it and really love it. It’s like playing with a drummer and the looper part is fairly easy as well. I have a Kantana 50 and was trying to figure out how to work this so I can record the on board FX. I was thinking of getting another 50 to get a stereo set up, but no FX Loop. The 100does. I also thought about the Line 6 Catslyst 60, since it does have a FX loop and somehow using them together. So if I understand this, if I plug my looper into the main amp in then I’m able to record the onboard FX on the looper. If I plug it into the power amp plug, it will not record the onboard FX. Damn I’m sooooo confused….! Oh yeah, “Whoopi doopi looper” or something like that…! I will figure it out.
