Mage: The Awakening is the most complex book for us newcomers to the game, hence nobody plays a mage in our group :]] After watching this I think I can manage playing one now.
Hope it went well. I have never played anything except Dungeons and Dragons and our DM convinced the dnd group to play a zoo game of CofD. All of us are struggling to learn and I'm the only one who has decided to try and learn Mage. 1 week in and I'm starting to understand the game better.
All in all a good short overview on an very philosophically DEEP roleplay. It´s more for people who like mysticism, esoterics, philosophy, tales, abstract ideas. In my opinion, the greatest roleplay ever invented, even better then the other WOD-Products.
Paradox: An intrusion of Abyssal energies into the Fallen World caused by a mage’s hubris. (Page 74) Sleepers cause Disbelief what has - as one of many factors - influence on paradox. Seeing your Video one could think, the sleepers witness is the main cause for the paradox.
It's a cause-effect relationship. I try to avoid digging too much into the lore of the game and speak more on the game mechanics directly. If Paradox happens in-character, it's because of a Mage's hubris, but in game mechanics, it's over-reaching and Sleeper witnesses (among other factors) that contribute to the Paradox pool and the chance that Paradox happens to begin with.
I finally found a physical copy of Mage: The Awakening (1e) and whoo is it a rough entry into tWoD. This video is pretty useful, and kudos on being able to just talk about this for near an hour straight; that's dedication.
So Mages have a second tier of "Ghoul-like" which is the Sons of Magic known as the Proximi. Magic blooded with special blessings but not technically mages. Probably a thing I'll touch on one day.
Absolutely, glad it was useful! It is one of my favorite systems and settings. Hoping I'll be sharing some stories and maybe videos from my own game of it soon.
Hey! I would love to get back to these videos, can you believe it's been more than a year since the last one?! Currently (as of 4/17/2020) the Occultists Anonymous Actual Play has consumed most of my time but Patreon support is getting to the point that I can do some side projects here and there, so these videos might make a return!
Hey uh... I haven't watched the video yet, will do, but could you link me to that thumbnail image you've got? The one with the coweled mage? That was pretty sweet, but I can't seem to find the original image anywhere.
@@OccultistsAnonymous the coolest thing I ever read in nWoD was a group of banishers that had enchanted machine guns that had bullets which only did damage to mages.
Nah. If you want to go back to the original Latin, it'd be "go-eh-TEA-ah". It's got a couple different ways you could pronounce, based on your own preference and origin.
I started reading Mage to play with some friends, and I am... vexed by how little there is for the second edition. Anyhow, I got to the point where I actually start the character sheet. There is nowhere on it to write the Nimbus! And the rules say you must write it down lol I don't know if it was intentional, but I'm supposing not. To my question then: Is Nimbus important enough that I have to tell my friends to write it down somewhere on the sheet or can I tell them to just know how their Nimbus is without writing it down?
It's definitely important to put down! You might not need to keep the description of it, but the Nimbus Tilt is very important! It's on page 2 of the character sheet in the 2E book, at least in my copy!
@@OccultistsAnonymous thanks for the quick reply. The one I have has Familiar info in it, no Nimbus and no Yantra, so I suppose that mine is a different, older version. Maybe the pdf version selling on Drive Thru RPG is updated. You should totally make some videos showcasing the different Paths and Orders, because I would totally watch them hahah. Cheers.
Absolutely! Keep an eye out for my next video, hopefully a live game should give some help. If Mage gets a lot of attention, I'll have to start doing some deep dives into Paths and Orders! :D
@@OccultistsAnonymous I plan on making some videos myself in the future, but for the Brazilian audience. Vampire the Masquerade is the thing in these parts. The second edition for Mage didn't even see the light of day here yet :P
OMG... finally someone made this video. RUclips has needed this for a while.
Hopefully I'll be adding some actual live play videos soon!

It's a complex system but the creativity options are through the roof! Check out the Occultists Anonymous videos to watch the gameplay in real game!

Way late to this but I hope you did. Mage is by and far the most freeing of the WOD splats. With enough creativity you can do ANYTHING.

Well, keep an eye on the channel, more Mage stuff is coming!

I highly suggest jumping to 2e, but yeah, I really enjoy the lore for the game so it's fun to talk about.
@@OccultistsAnonymous As I'm watching your guys' current Chronicle I'm noticing it's more streamlined, so I'll be jumping over to that when I can.
Fantastic video. Well done sir.

Correct, but they can't just be made by a normal player, like with ghouls. More similar to the Werewolf Wolf-Blooded who are just born that way...
@@OccultistsAnonymous Oh yeah I was just mentioning it as like an aside form your mention of Sleepwalkers.
Great video. I really want to play this game it seems like heaps of fun
YOU MUST CONSTRUCT ADDITIONAL PYLONS
Good stuff. Subbed. Look forward to your Spellcasting Tutorial.
It's actually at the end of the video! I'll be posting it as a standalone as soon as I figure out a good thumbnail! :D

Excited to see the changeling and geist videos :)
So am I! I'll probably be doing a bunch of them again like this 'batch'. :D
Occultist! Will you be making a Demon the Descent session zero? By the way your videos are awesome!

Are you still planning on doing the rest of the monsters? Your videos are great
I absolutely would! I'm trying to establish some time to do them while also running and editing OA.

It's from the book itself. You can access the art assets on Storyteller's Vault.

Are there still Banishers?
Yup!
