    It's been ages since I did a nano no filter aquarium. I was looking at one of the oldest tanks I have and felt it needed freshening up. No filter planted tanks are always fun to watch. They can be hard to get right and balanced but when they are, you get a great sense of achievement.

    "Nano fish" does not automatically mean "nano tank". Even if they are small, they should be kept in a large group (at least 10-12 specimens), they are very active and need space to swim (at least 50-60 cm long tank). They also need a soft light and dark water.
    PS: I love your chanel 😀

    The chilli rasboras were such a perfect stocking choice for the tank, they match the red hues of the tank and stand out in the green patches

    • @CreateArc
      @CreateArc 3 года назад +1

      But these fish live in a slow stream, kh about 0, very dark water and with many shaded places! I think it’s a bit too bright, I keep mine with plants that don’t need much light and with a lot of leaves and osmosis water.

    I absolutely love chilli Rasboras. I've had 3 of them in with my community tank for 2 years. In that time I've been looking for more, but haven't found any! Im not sure why. They are wonderful peaceful fish. They mind their own business and look so unique. Their small size is a bonus.

      @GoldenStarGamez I have had 1x Betta Splendens, Betta Hendra pairs, 9x emerald dwarf rasboras and 11x Cory Pygmaeus (only one species per tank!) Live and breed happily in 16 litre tanks. I use a 1 inch deep substrate at least 1 piece of wood and quite a few plants including red root floaters. If the tank is matured and you water change each week, you're good. You could have at least 10 chili rasbs or 5 rocket panchax in a 16l tank. Btw, I had a colony of shrimp in the tanks too. They keep the tank free of waste which reduces ammonia spikes. The trick is too introduce the fish a few at a time to allow the tank to adapt to the bioload. I hope that helps!

    12:14 something worth mentioning with red plants is low nitrates. You could have the most powerful lights possible and dose additonal iron but if your nitrates are high the plants will not stay red. If you live somehwere with high nitrates (like the London area) reds are not possible without without RO water.

    • @jencycarranza4957
      @jencycarranza4957 3 года назад +2

      Hmmm that’s so weird. I have a nano tank and a 60g with almost very alike water chemistry. Only difference is that my nano can grow the reds very well (thinking it was the lights), and my nano tank always has nitrate levels below 5pmm while the bigger tank has 10-20 at times and can’t grow reds too well, so I plucked the reds out of the 60 g.
      So you probably have a point.

    re: dechlorinating water (@ 12:00) - this won't work if your municipal water supply uses chloramine instead of chlorine, as chloramine doesn't evaporate! use a good water conditioner instead - one that explicitly says that it removes chloramine. if you're not sure what's in your local water supply, just get a good water conditioner.

    • @ivancho5854
      @ivancho5854 2 года назад +1

      This is a great comment and I'm surprised that the comments section isn't jumping with this subject. Almost all of the UK (if not every single water board) has switched over to chloramine, so he will most likely have it. As chloramine breaks down it does offgas however. Chlorine will offgas quickly, depending on a number of variables, such as temperature, pressure, UV light levels and surface area to volume ratio (which is why turbidity and aeration assist the process). Chloramine will take much longer, which is why it is favoured by municipalities. A gallon bucket of chloramine at room temperature, standard atmospheric pressure and typical indoor low light levels could easily take two weeks for the chloramine to break down and offgas to a level which is safe for fish. This can be sped up, as is done industrially, by various methods however most would be unsuitable for home use apart from chemical treatments.
      Rain water however is plentiful in the UK, free and surprisingly suitable for fresh water fish. Who would have thought it! Actually I wonder where the water companies get their water from?
      All the best.

    And what exactly are mosquitoes fish? And why does no one talk about them?

      I ask cause I've seen them sold for a quarter each at a near by pet store and wondered why people don't keep em as pets. They seemed a good size and would make a scape look very natural.
      (Turns out they're sold as feeders like Ghost Shrimp)

    It's been ages since I did a nano no filter aquarium. I was looking at one of the oldest tanks I have and felt it needed freshening up. No filter planted tanks are always fun to watch. They can be hard to get right and balanced but when they are, you get a great sense of achievement.

      @@elvisisswag1349 it’s important to pay lots of attention to setups that are so small, everyone here hasn’t taken into account that this is pretty much his full time job, so he changes the water almost daily, measures the water quality that often as well, and he has the ability to quickly correct any issues that occur.
      It’s like how some people call keeping a big dog in a city apartment, you can be cruel by doing it, but if you give them plenty to play with and take them for walk’s every day then there’s nothing wrong with it

    Hey MD. A possible video option. Could you do one about how you trim and replant your plants once and tank is up and running. I really struggle with either leggy plants or cut stubs with barely any leaves. Loving the content and this tank is really popping.
