In my experience, it's pretty and peaceful during the day. During the night, there's some creepy goings on out there. As if finding blackened sand-glass tubes in the sand wasn't already frightening enough. There's something out there that avoids steady light sources. A flash of lightning may illuminate it, and if you're lucky, or perhaps unlucky enough to see it, you'll never forget that tall figure of solid darkness shaped like a man in a longcoat and a hat with red eyes that seem to bore into your very soul. I'm not sure if it's hostile. I was lucky enough to not have to find out, but when I saw it, I realized, I'd come VERY close to it without noticing it. I was on a road trip with my parents. We had a big van, modified with a Full Size bed in the back. I was lying in it as we left the rest stop. A huge lightning storm was coming in, and as we were pulling away I saw a pair of red glowing lights just outside the light of the street lamps. I thought there was just some machinery there. Then lightning flashed and I saw... him? I've found out some people call it Hatman.

Sounds fun. It's difficult for me to get much practice with Dreamwalking in a location that lacks that quality. I have to make a big effort to attract negative presences toward me, just to get the weak ones. The small fry, all they can do is mess with my dreams and make me hear and see things that aren't there. Been almost 2 decades since I've experienced anything strong enough to make the injuries in my dreams physically manifest. Those are my preferred practice dummies.
I live a short drive or long walk's distance from the Olympic National Forest, so scary woods stories are kind of unsettlingly relatable. We had our own version of #3 around here back in the '90s, but they didn't kill the animals. Just took patches off them and released them to suffer. My aunt and uncle were first responders at the time, and there was considerable fear that they'd make the move to humans.

Not so much a story but I learned something slightly creepy about a type of tree I recently planted. It is tradition to tie a dead animal to the branches of a pawpaw tree while it is in bloom. Pawpaw is a native plant to the eastern half of the continental US. It looks tropical but can grow as far north as southern Canada. It bears the largest edible fruit native to north America that is described as tasting like a combination of peach, banana, mango and/or pineapple. The dead animals are useful because it isn't pollinated by bees or butterflies. It is pollinated by flies and carrion beetles that are attracted to rotting meat and the stinky, reddish flowers of the pawpaw.
