Unfortunately Pontiac, along with several other divisions are a thing of the past. Thank you for your work Ross.

I'm a bit late but I was at Burnout Masters all day sniffing meth (the good kind) and getting my ears hammered by nasty LS's and BBC's, even a barra showed up to prove if you want big power you need an LS haha. Great review Jon, this was a great come down from the last 2 days of BM.
Mate had a vy ss ute had alot done to it and was 282rwks.. I just think N/A power is boring. His was 282rwkws I had a 230rwkw BF xr6 turbo and the power delivery in that was much more impressive.
Mines lasted 8 years without even running a proper transcooler, got a feeling some of these cars destroying boxes with 230rwhp got some more issues going on than just the gearbox 👀
Blow up two Commodore vz utes with 140000km so i got a falcon xr6 and have had no problems. The falcon xr6 are Australian motor and all. The turbo xr6 eats the ss for breakfast. Aussie ute racing Falcon utes won ever year. So holden ute drivers the only good thing you can do with it is b&s it and let it burn in a paddock like mine.🔥👍🤣🤣
hahaa damn 2 before 140k! thats shit lol barra falcons easily climb into the 3-400km.. i can agree also the turbo eats V8s on the open road.. 1 reason why i upgraded from a XR8 to a BF F6
yeah what is it with dickheads like you ? everyone keeps saying their xr6t chops a na ss . of course it will forced induction vs na is no competition. although my mates vy storm l67 (supercharged) with 10psi of boost chopped xr6ts and g6e turbos and xr8s. l67s are amazing
@@addisonsmith7214 xr6 turbos and ss' were the exact same price designed to compete against each other. They even had the exact same power output. Its expected that 2 more litres of displacament and 2 more cylinders will make up for a small turbos 5psi of boost.
That is one very tidy example of a Holden Ute!!! - The owner LOVES that car. Have you reviewed / driven a VE/VF SS?? ... I never drove the earlier models myself but apparently the newer chassis (according to the guys at MOTOR) is supposed to make it handle like a car. I'm not a complete hoon like you ;) ... so I've never tried to get my VF sideways - I tended to avoid planting the boot around the corners because I didn't want to waste a $34K+ car! ... but the more I drive it, the more confidence I'm getting on the stability side of things. The VF is a HUGE upgrade on the interior of that VY ... but I suppose you wanted a similar year comparison to your old BA (such a shame you couldn't hang on to that one along with the Tiffy!!) ... The changed mufflers on mine (purchased as is) make a small difference in the engine note ... In November (hopefully) I'll be fitting a K&N cold air induction unit (similar to your old BA) ... and In December a full engine back stainless steel performance exhaust (Headers, Hi-Flow cats etc etc) - I can't wait to see how THAT performs!! Should be interesting :)
Type in Holden ute on his channel & there are some very good reviews that come up for a VE & VF Ute's. I like the white VF LSA he reviewed. I have a VF SS ute, good fun ute to drive & own. If you want to modify your stock exhaust, try deleting the centre muffler near the resonator's & add a merge or X-pipe. The HSV's mid sections usually have just the twin resonator's instead of a muffler aswell.
The Holden UTES are really no good for tradesmans , most tradesmen trade them for fords because the fords have leaf springs and the holden utes need constant shock replacement , i have the VY LS1 calais and i was going to go with a VE 6.0 however i liked the VY/VZ neat shape over all of them
these are more enthusiast utes not proper work utes.. i would def recommend ford if you want a work horse.. more storage, bigger payload, based off a taxi so lasts forever lol
Holden also had the one-tonner version with leaf-sprung, live rear axle instead of the coil-sprung independent rear end like the regular lifestyle utes. The one-tonner could be optioned with LS1, my mate has one.
The VY SS need some basic mods to wake them up Intake , exhaust , stall converter, tune. But the best mod I did in mine was putting in a lower diff ratio . Stock was 3.08 I put in 3.4 (I think) and it made it so much more snappy down low
Cryptology yea they were made by pbr and are have 20mm larger rotors and a bigger calliper , they also look cool as are red with a big SSZ logo painted on them
really shoulda tested a t56 ls1 ute. da best. And you say the Vy is better looking then the vu ? No way lol. Vu sv8 without skirts dropped on chasers is the best looking ute. Those cheap body skirts on the ss look dated...
each to their own i think they both look good but VZ takes all cake in the looks department.. ill be keeping an eye out for a manual next time to review
@@RossReviewsau well that's cause your American :p You like chevy lookin cars. why want make it fair and put a non turbo barra against ls1 haha, or turbo ls1 against turbo barra :) that's more fair isn't it ? love ya work bro. :)
Look the VY's were ok but they weren't no where near as reliable compared to Toyota's What's with the book write up ?, the owners script or ? Still had tons of problems with them like most commodores Sub frame bushes, still had the rear end issues (wasn't fully fixed until the VZ) LS issues on the norm although a decent engine but flawed. V6 was typically valley gaskets, etc Power steering racks destroy themselves Interior plastics were garbage (excluding soft touch areas), etc They had an old school setup IRS, Falcon sedans ran a double wishbone IRS, but utes got a live axle. 4L60-E in Australian spec was sub par Though the Corvette version 4L60-E was brilliant 10k - 15k for a VY ?, tell them they're dreaming. Especially considering how half of them are treated 🤣🤣 They lacked finesse, seat foam all deteriorate badly, Ford foam generally held up a bit better by comparison. Engines lacked refinement, plenty to critique VY's for, yes the ute is practical to a point but how much is them repairs gonna cost when they need attending ?, not cheap i know that much
the owner was helping me see my notes haha.. i think my point is not that they are as reliable as toyota but the fact you see a million of them around still on the road today and their "simple" cars that most can work on themselves.. they do def have their fair share of problems haha like my falcon also.. i know it sounds crazy but good luck finding a decent VY SS (especially Manual) for under 10k
@@RossReviewsau Most owners exasbate prices of all Commodore & Falcon's nowerdays unfortunately, but there was well over 500k of each built from basically 2000 - 2005 essentially
@@RossReviewsau It was an interesting watch to see an LS with a stock exhaust which i can respect. But that's just me If they fitted a 2 - 2.5" system that was nearly as quiet but provided better flow, i'd be happy. Most go loud & obnoxious 🤣
@@RossReviewsau The biggest let down in the VT Series 2 - VY Series 2's were the "heavy duty" diff (3.07 ratio), which they came in LSD & Open. But the stupid part was they were super weak, centres wear out & rebuilding one compared to the standard duty 3.08 ratio (diffs were smaller) was ALOT more expensive. they lasted so much better, even in LSD form which is rare to find.
Drove my dads xr8 magnet Ute 6 speed man when it was brand new had 7km on it... ford said u had to not rev it past 3k for the 1st 3tho km’s... well I had the thing on limiter from the first time I drove it.. it went hard as fuck had plenty of side by side runs with vy club sports and maloo utes.. what I’m getting at unless u bought the xr8 new u don’t know if the guy before u actually listened to ford and not rev it past 3 tho for the first 3k’s . And made it a sum what a lazy Motor Cuz I’ve been in few other manuals that simply didn’t pull as hard as my dads Ute.. fucking long story hey still like the vy ss and the ls1 but the xr8 from factory was a much better package all round
yeh right.. i would imagine every single one would have been thrashed then haha i agree the XR8 from factory is the better package... only when you want to modify the LS1 is a bit easier
Can you elaborate? I try n make it a point that I don’t know everything and I’m human so mistakes happen.. my reviews are not supposed to be polished like top gear or something

I'm a bit late but I was at Burnout Masters all day sniffing meth (the good kind) and getting my ears hammered by nasty LS's and BBC's, even a barra showed up to prove if you want big power you need an LS haha. Great review Jon, this was a great come down from the last 2 days of BM.
ah the LS VS BARRA battle continues haha i love it m8.. gotta find a VZ soon hopefully a Maloo
if only you were in victoria id happily let you test a manual one with exhaust haha
cheers for the offer maybe one day :)
Come to Sydney got a few tasty holdens for you to review 😋
Shoot me a message on Insta or fb
Cam, bigger induction, exhaust and tune. Easy 260kw at the wheels at least. Problem is you'll kill the auto in a week 🤣
Mate had a vy ss ute had alot done to it and was 282rwks.. I just think N/A power is boring. His was 282rwkws I had a 230rwkw BF xr6 turbo and the power delivery in that was much more impressive.
The autos are complete trash in vy-vz . Even with no mods they shit themselves fairly early
yeh i really didnt like the auto
Mines lasted 8 years without even running a proper transcooler, got a feeling some of these cars destroying boxes with 230rwhp got some more issues going on than just the gearbox 👀
We got leaf springs so you could use a ute as a UTE Ford did invent the Ute after all 😏😂
this is true! haha
The alloy-tech engines are garbage, nothing like the Eco-tech's
Peter, what b&s a car stand for?
Hey man I really like what your doing I’m trying to do something similar thanks for the motivation if you can make it anyone can 👍
Go for it! glad i can inspire you man..
I have series 2 VY SS ute with the same colour and over 250.000km
If you’re ever in vic and after a ve ss my hand is up 🤫
thank you m8.. lets hope the borders open soon
nice video ! nice review ! no need to show the paper your mate hold !
cheers glad you enjoyed it
That is one very tidy example of a Holden Ute!!!
The HSV's mid sections usually have
just the twin resonator's instead of a muffler aswell.
You gotta get one. 😎
maybe one day :)
I forget how loud mine is until I put the window down, the VY's must have really good sound proofing.
you got a aftermarket exhaust? was surprised how quiet the stock one is
@@RossReviewsau It has a twin 3
twin 3" stainless system with single back boxes, pretty quiet when the windows are shut.
@@bonesXU1 not a bad thing tho when the windows are up good to be not overbearing
Could you please try and do a review on a series 3 Tickford xr8 ute
Thanks legend
i have one waiting actually lol just have to get to her one day to review
Hopefully soon mate, would love to see your thoughts
Can u do a fg 6 speed na
i will do my best to find one
Nice iconic Aussie Ute,but I have to say it doesn’t come close to your mighty 🐝 Ute Johnny mate 😁 you all stay safe man👍🏻
Very true my old Bee was a gem... wish i still had it..
VY SS Holden Ute is it better than a Ba let me think of course it is
in a manual i think i might be.. lol
@@RossReviewsau Definitely manual and in black or red haha
Au still better 😂👍 up tha au.
nothing can beat the AU
nah those 6 cylinders will never beat the ls powered beast
Prices going up
100%
Ross you should get a vz or ve Ute on the channel
ive had a VE before.. chasing a VZ!
The VY SS need some basic mods to wake them up
Intake , exhaust , stall converter, tune.
But the best mod I did in mine was putting in a lower diff ratio . Stock was 3.08 I put in 3.4 (I think) and it made it so much more snappy down low
exactly the reason i think they are the better V8 ute.. (Manual one of course lol) the holden is just easier to get them gainz over the boss
@@RossReviewsau can you put mods on a auto or is it bad ?
Just get a BARRA.. You cheeky Shit LOL....Great vid man
I had too 🤣🤣 love my V8s still tho
A manual would transform it.
Suggestion. Magna AWD.
100% a T56 would make her come alive..
im after one but not an easy car to comeby lol
I had a red vy ss I bought new wish I still had it!
i really do like the red :)
my dad used to have a vy ss with a big turbo but sadly we got rid of it
ah man a turbo VY ute.. know thats goals
@@RossReviewsau sorry to let you down but it was a sedan, it was still mint though
Struggling to find a vy vz maloo for sale at the moment
its not easy anymore! n the prices are huge generally
@@RossReviewsau 100% I just need 1 more maloo to complete my collection
Need to get me a ss one day haha
be quick man!
yes, buy a Holden ute
I'm here lol
Truck bed.... don’t you mean Ute tray 😁
haha my canadian creeping back up
Ross Reviews haha that’s allgood man
The thumbnail looked like a game wtf haha
😂 forza Australia
@@RossReviewsau Pretty much mate haha, literally looks like forza horizon 3 because that was set in Australia haha
I didn’t realise people were still putting Holden badges on their Chevys..?
yes, particularly stateside...
Get a Barra up ya!
This model come out in 4 styles mate you forgot the holden 1 tonner
Would be good if you could find a straight-piped manual with decent suspension to do a more apples/apples comparison.
Yep decent suspension they lack that and a good set of brakes
@@michaelscurr9046 Yeah a good set of rotors and pads goes a long way.
michael scurr I put a set of VZ SSZ brakes on mine
Huge improvement
@@gdawwg1125 Are they different to SS brakes?
Cryptology yea they were made by pbr and are have 20mm larger rotors and a bigger calliper , they also look cool as are red with a big SSZ logo painted on them
As you said Ross, Barra is the word!!
😈
barra is gay
Do a burnout braaa!
😎🇲🇽
Its nearly impossible to find a vy or vz ss ute in manual in nsw
the manual is a MUST! the 4 speed didn't impress me much.. the value of these are going through the roof especially the manuals
Too bad she isn’t a 6 speed manual
I know I think you def need the 6 speed in these cars 100%
Me too
LS and t56. Definitely better
100%
Hey man could u do a review on a Ecotec v6 commodore
I think he would rather do an NA barra than a holden v6 for obvious reasons.
Luke Sm what wrong with a v6 commo? Nothing to me
i reckon we get a V6 commo vs NA Barra review happening! whos got the cars! haha
Ross Reviews I do but I live in QLD but haha
@@aussiecarrguy1252 whats wrong with a v6 commo. The sv6 will probably go down as the worst aussie car ever made.
really shoulda tested a t56 ls1 ute.
@@Eriu-88-88- yes this needs to be done
Look the VY's were ok but they weren't no where near as reliable compared to Toyota's
What's with the book write up ?, the owners script or ?
Still had tons of problems with them like most commodores
Sub frame bushes, still had the rear end issues (wasn't fully fixed until the VZ)
LS issues on the norm although a decent engine but flawed.
V6 was typically valley gaskets, etc
Power steering racks destroy themselves
Interior plastics were garbage (excluding soft touch areas), etc
They had an old school setup IRS, Falcon sedans ran a double wishbone IRS, but utes got a live axle.
4L60-E in Australian spec was sub par
Though the Corvette version 4L60-E was brilliant
10k - 15k for a VY ?, tell them they're dreaming. Especially considering how half of them are treated 🤣🤣
They lacked finesse, seat foam all deteriorate badly, Ford foam generally held up a bit better by comparison.
But that's just me
If they fitted a 2 - 2.5" system that was nearly as quiet but provided better flow, i'd be happy. Most go loud & obnoxious 🤣
@@RossReviewsau The biggest let down in the VT Series 2 - VY Series 2's were the "heavy duty" diff (3.07 ratio), which they came in LSD & Open. But the stupid part was they were super weak, centres wear out & rebuilding one compared to the standard duty 3.08 ratio (diffs were smaller) was ALOT more expensive. they lasted so much better, even in LSD form which is rare to find.
im looking to buy this thing on gummy lol
this exact one?
I thought 0/100 was miles? . Surely, 160 kmh
HA for real.. lol need a supercharger for that time to be anything close to 160kmh
And made it a sum what a lazy Motor
Cuz I’ve been in few other manuals that simply didn’t pull as hard as my dads Ute.. fucking long story hey still like the vy ss and the ls1 but the xr8 from factory was a much better package all round
yeh right.. i would imagine every single one would have been thrashed then haha i agree the XR8 from factory is the better package... only when you want to modify the LS1 is a bit easier
Ross Reviews can’t beat the ls1 for bang for buck..
Land in the usa for sale
XR8 motors are shit but the car its self is much better than these
i wouldn't say they are shit.. but they are a slug no doubt about it
@@RossReviewsau I've never liked the 5.4s tbh as you said they are a slug I like the barras better but in the E series I rather the V8s
mmm seems abit late for a review
never to late :p
reccomend learning the car and its background more, alot of misinformation and lack of knowledge shown, shame.
Can you elaborate? I try n make it a point that I don’t know everything and I’m human so mistakes happen.. my reviews are not supposed to be polished like top gear or something
