If you want to plant any tree in Karachi then avoid foreign trees like Conocarpus. Always go for the local trees like Bakain, Thuja, Ulta Ashok, Ashok, Neem, Banyan, sukh chain, etc. They are best for local environment. The best shade trees are Bakain, Peepal and Banyan.
conocarpus is good for barran lands in all sindh there is big sem n thur issue including karachi no other trees can be planeted in barran kands with sem n thur but conocarpus is only option and karachi in barran lands and in fertile areas we must plaant local trees

Karachi like many Pakistani cities needs large lakes ....
I live in Dallas and we have many man-made lakes all around our city and it helps to cool down and provide drinking water as well as irrigation in emergency. These lakes were built by the Army corps of engineers. They maintain it and people use it for water sports and fishing and it provides emergency supply of water and also helps in cooling down the atmosphere as the water evaporates it turns into clouds and the clouds block the Sun.
Also the public should use white colors on the exterior of their buildings because white color repels sunlight and is the coolest color,.... plant greenery on roofs also helps in reducing the overall heat map of any City.,

Even here in uk I prefer green areas and live in rural sides with lots of greenery , farms and canals. The shop on which Ali Raza works is in Gulshan near Bilal Masjid (Isphani road) and the owner of the shop (whom you can see giving instructions in the video to his workers) is a big time Lutera/Scammer, he takes 5000 rupees of a work where other AC technicians take 1500-2000 for the same work. Sahi chex ko bhi kharab btata hai.
No wonder he must be paying 10-15k to his workers.

Another aspect is the basic building block:
Only in Karachi, is there consistent use of cement blocks for construction. These gain heat during the day and at night radiate the heat inside the building.
All across Pakistan, and I can vouch for certain other cities in Australia and Turkey, where I have lived, the practice is for hollow Red bricks made out of sand which is baked in kilns. These do not radiate heat at night.
Sadly the city which portends itself to have 'parhi, likhi awam' is so ignorant

I don't know how you arrived at the conclusion of 'so many', but since you're not quoting any numbers, I believe it's more to do with defending KHI, rather than any logic.
Istanbul where I currently reside in is slightly smaller than KHI in population. There are more housing here than local demand. Housing and buildings are being constructed out of red bricks.
If you would kindly share your number, I could post videos and pictures of the buildings of every size and shape imaginable.
Regarding 'parhi likhi awam', being educated is one aspect, being civilised is totally another. I happen to have gone to some Karachi's top institutions, where most people never get admitted:
St. Patrick's High School, Cambridge section: estd. 1867
DJ Sind Government Science College, estd. 1887
IBA, Karachi, estd. 1955
Have also lived all over Pakistan. Found the other cities, safer, cleaner, friendlier. The only thing where KHI takes the cake is the cuisine. Cheers

Besides, if you have experianced Abbottabad, the weather is similar. Just please go through the concept of 'Specific Heat Capacity': materials with a low Specific Heat Capacity, loose heat quickly and gain heat quickly. Materials with a high specific heat capacity retain heat and loose it slowly. Sand, used to make red bricks, has a low Specific Heat Capacity, as compared to Cement.
This is why, it doesn't matter, if the weather is cold or hot, baked red bricks is the best option, as compared to Cement.
The establishment hasn't destroyed KHI, Karachites have: who else has continuously supported the MQM? The tanker mafia: PPP. MQM has been a constant ally of the Sind Government.
High time the 'parhi likhi awam' of KHI wakes up. I moved due to not having the opportunities that I deserved. The general environment even in companies is of politicking, not of merit

we have so many open grounds like these in landhi karachi. they were supposed to be parks. now they have mountains of trash and just one or two trees where addicts sleep.
