So, in this case there are several factors. 1 is going to be what the ambient temp is in the room. If its warmer, then you may only need a uvb source only. If its low 70s or upper 60s then you need a heat source and uvb. Now if your room temp is Wamer upper 70s low 80s then there is no need for heat and whatever uvb you choose to use want really matter as there should be plenty of things for them to climb around on and hide in. Now if the room is cooler, then we would do a 75 watt mercury vapor or maybe even 100 watt mercury vapor. But having a good thermometer is going to be key to ensure it does not get too hot. @ReptileRangers i live in Fl so porb won't be too hard. I have a temp gun and a few small digital hydrometer so I can monitor the diff areas in the tank
Also, I'll get a heat pad and put it on the outside side of the tank at the substrate layer where the humid hide is.i have a vine, and bromilliad, and another verigated long leaf type of plant.
Great video. If I was to purchase the Terrasky LED light, how would I know how much UVB I’m putting out to my Dragon? Does it get brighter? I don’t have a meter. Thanks.
Can you please explain why it may not be ideal for a beardie? The guy at the store really sold me on this after I mentioned that mine was showing signs of sickness from lack of uvb. On my way to still get a mercury one.@@ReptileRangers
I rehomed a baby beardy that came with that LED bar as well has a heat bulb (regular heat lamp keep his enclosure at 105f, will the bar provide the uvb/uva he needs?
Any acclaimed uvb bulb can and does produce uvb. The issue will be the efficiency of the bulb. If you got the one in this video it does produce uvb but has not been out long enough to give a solid answer on long term efficiency. That will just take time. Thanks for watching and commenting
Always replaced the uvb build that way you have a good start and replacement point. The cost of a new uvb is less than vet visits for mbd. If you can afford it get a solar meter, it's spendy but you know exactly when to get a new one. With our two dragons we now test the bulbs once a month and I now know I can use the old dragon uvb for my anole. This has saved me a bunch as I only replaced the uvb for the anole once and started using the old 12% bulbs. She is using the newest of the dragon bulbs so that should last her the rest of her life, she is four plus years old. Moving the uvb inside the cages made a huge difference too. On top of the lids, too much uvb is lost because of the screen. The tubes now last months longer just from slight adjustments to the fixture and or basking logs.
Long term no we have not. We don't have any applications right now in our zoo where we need to use that light all the time. We do still have it but it's not in use. Thanks for watching and commenting
Would a mercury vapour bulb not overheat a wooden 4x2x2 vivarium As they aren't dimmable? Looking into setting up bearded dragon setup. So was thinking about this led as a uvb/ uva light along side a halogen or dhp .
No cause as of right now our customers that have custom pvc with screen top 4x2x2 has to run both a 160 on the hot end and a 125 in the middle to achieve optimum temps. Now if it's an enclosed wood then you would probably need a 160 and something like a 60 or 75 watt in the middle. However, a temp gun will tell you what you need. Thanks for watching and commenting
Honestly you can use any brand however there will be slight differences in each one. If it helps, we do have 2 other videos on this channel about mercury vapor. And in one of the videos, we show some of them in use and which ones are better. Thanks for watching and commenting.
In honesty you dont have goof reflector on the uvb tube if you did uvb and uvi would have been higher , i love mercury vapor bulbs too and metal halides they produce great amount of uvb but exo terra led uvb is pretty decent for tropical reptiles great video
Yea you are correct with reflection it can get a bit higher and intensify a bit more, unfortunately still not even close to comparison of mercury or even this newer LED. But that falls into the point of these videos why waste money on half baked products. Thanks for watching and commenting
@ReptileRangers I love mercury vapor bulbs best ive used are mega ray , reptile systems d3 bulb and arcadia d3 evo. Just really need a solarmeter cause they can be inconsistent with the uvi some can put out dangerous levels, few exo terra solar glo tested extremely high and if person doesn't have solar meter 6.5 it could be a very bad situation but I like tube uvb t5 too but your right there output isn't great as mercury vapor
@@bernardwillman8043 It would be nice of the solar meters weren't so expensive so more people could buy them and be able to keep track of their UVB output.
@@ReptileRangersyeah they are expensive , there are a few cheap ones but they aren't as accurate But i know the Chinese version of solarmeter 6.5 is like 100.dollers on ebay it's not far off from a real solarmeter 6 5 I know it was tested by a friend of mine , he was getting a 3.8 with real.solarmerer 6.5 and he got 3.3 with Chinese solar meter 6.5 so it wasn't off by much but which one is accurate ??? Lol that's real question I don't think none of them are completely accurate but solarmeter is most trusted and reliable one but Chinese 6.5 meter isn't terrible and is around 80 to 100 on ebay
I’ve been doing a crap ton of research for the cages that we build in our shop. This has been an insane amount of info. Tysm.

Hey awesome video, any recommendations on what uvb setting or distance for a crested gecko in a 18x18x24 bioactive using this light?

@ReptileRangers i keep my house on 73 during day and 72 at night, but the room it's going to be in will fluctuate between 73-76
@@Mr.flo20buddy If you can get your temps to a consistent 76 plus then you would be fine with just a uvb source

I would not recommend them for dragons. Mercury vapor is far superior and does both heat and uvb all in the same bulb.

@@nauticaperez2504 Unfortunately they are just very cheaply made and the uvb is not very efficient.
I have a juvinile eastern Hermann's tortoise any suggestions on uvb setup

Have you been able to successfully program the terrasky UV? The manual is horrible and describes each button but not how to program a given day.
