Thank you for this! My middle seat hasn’t been locking consistently and I was hoping there was a solution in the in between while we wait to get it fixed!
You cannot route the shoulder belt behind this car seat. For US and Canadian seats, only infant seats have that as an option. Even then, it is not a requirement.
I wish. But the seat belt is too tight when buckled and pulled tight to get the locking clip on. You have to be able to fold the seat belt a bit to get the locking clip on, which you can't do without unbuckling.
Thanks for watching! No, a locking clip can never be used on a lap only belt, which planes are equipped with. Airplane seat belts can be tightened so nothing need to be added to them when installing a car seat
Just making sure I understood correctly. It is safe to use a locking clip even if your car seatbelt has a lock. Correct? My Graco extend2fit lifts like crazy. I’ve tried installing 30+ times without locking clip but I can’t get it tight without major lifting
Any idea what I might be doing wrong? I am doing as you show exactly. However, once I have it and pull the car seat side to side, it wiggles lose immediately. I am taking out all slack, it takes two of us to muscle the buckle to clip…. But you can still just pull the seat around. Thanks for any insight!
You can't use it on the airplane. Locking clips are only for lap and shoulder belts. The airplane belts are lap-only belts and you just pull to tighten them
If we lost or misplaced the locking clip that came with our car seat is it okay to buy an universal one from Amazon or should I look for one from the manufacturer
Hi Michelle, I live internationally and need to use a car seat on a bus service that has lap belts only that have an ELR retractor. So I couldn’t use a locking clip? What alternative would I have? I’ve looked very where and can’t kind find a safe option.
Locking clips cannot be used on lap-only seat belts. If the lap belt tightens in some way (and I have yet to ever see one that does not), you are good to install the seat with that type of seat belt.

Thanks for the info! My child seat doesn't have a locking clip, any recommendation on a safe one that can be bought in Amazon?
I don't have a video for that right now and it's really hard to explain in text. There are 2 different ways to route the seat belt when installing the Doona without the base. You choose one of those methods, get the seat belt tight, unbuckle it, add the locking clip, and then buckle it again. Check to make sure there's no more than 1" of movement where the lap belt portion of the seat belt is attached to the car seat
Is this a Wagoneer? We have the Graco Slimfit3 LX 3 in 1 and a Wagoneer and can’t get the seatbelt A- to lock and B- can’t get it tight enough using seatbelt or tether anchors to not be able to flip upwards if hit from behind. Could this help? Any suggestions on whether it’s normal for a car seat to be able to flip upwards (head of car seat able to flip up towards own head rest if hit from behind)??
Yes, it is. After you install a car seat, you only check for movement where the seat belt is going through the seat. It will always move in other places. Using a locking clip will not change that.
Do you know if most European cars have the latch system? Wondering if I should travel internationally with my base instead of trying to use locking clip
If you are using a locking clip on the Cosco Scenara Next since it is so lightweight in a vehicle that does have locking seatbelts, do you use the locking seatbelt in ADDITION to the locking clip? Or would you just use the locking clip in this case?
My middle seat in my bench seat doesn’t lock or have lower anchors, which makes three across impossible. Unfortunately I can’t buy any “extra parts” from graco bc I’m in Canada. If anyone knows if I use one from a different company safely? I drive a 2012 dodge journey for anyone wanting to avoid this car 😂
Your middle seat belt does have a locking seat belt. Many dodge seat belts have a different locking mechanism than the typical kind. When you buckle in the seat belt, it locks in that part. You will be able to tighten the seat belt after buckling it and it will not loosen.
Thank u so much om dyslexic and I have a hard time I learn by seeing I appreciate u. U made it short and simple no complications
I'm glad this was helpful for you! Thanks for watching!
Thank you for this! My middle seat hasn’t been locking consistently and I was hoping there was a solution in the in between while we wait to get it fixed!
Thank you for this! Can the locking clip be used with a car seat base? Do you happen to have a video with that scenario?
They can be used if the base does not have a lock-off. It's done the same way, so we don't have a video.
Is the seatbelt not required to go around the back of the car seat as well?

An extra set of hands, can they just install the locking clip while it’s still buckled?
I wish. But the seat belt is too tight when buckled and pulled tight to get the locking clip on. You have to be able to fold the seat belt a bit to get the locking clip on, which you can't do without unbuckling.
Great video. Glad I know how to use one now if I need it.
Thanks for watching!
This is so helpful! Would i need to use this when installing a car seat on an airplane?

Very helpful video, thank you!!
You're welcome!
Hello. Docars in europe still not have the ALR seatbelts? Travelling with my nuna rava, wondering if I need a locking clip or not!
Thank you!
You will need a locking clip to use the Nuna Rava in European vehicles. You can contact Nuna and ask for one.

Yes, you can use the locking clip instead of locking the seat belt.

Are you only checking where the seat belt is going through? It will definitely move everywhere else.
Hi Michelle--can I use the locking clip on the Cosco Scenera Next when I take it on an airplane?
You can't use it on the airplane. Locking clips are only for lap and shoulder belts. The airplane belts are lap-only belts and you just pull to tighten them

Contact the manufacturer to get one. Many of the ones sold on Amazon are counterfeit and will not hold up in a crash. They are extremely thin.

If you contact the manufacturer of your car seat, they will send you one for free.

Since Feb 2013, all Euro vehicles were required to have ISOFIX/LATCH, so as long as you don't get into an old vehicle, you will be good.
Is the “Safety Buckle Pro Seatbelt Lock and Seat Belt Locking Clip - Strong ABS Plastic Buckle Guard” safe?
No, you have to use a metal locking clip. It's best to get one from the car seat's manufacturer
