I have a 100w HPS barn lamp hanging over my garage door. It's worked well for over ten years requiring only replacing bulb, it's on its third bulb now. Anyway it recently stopped working, and it wasn't the bulb. I couldn't find a replacement fixture, HomeDepot and Lowes now only sell Metal Halide fixtures in this wattage and I really wanted a Sodium. So I took the fixture down to diagnose the issue. The ballast looked good on the ohmmeter and I was able to test the photo cell and it still worked so that left only the igniter, which on this fixture consisted of 3 or 4 parts soldered onto a flexible circuit board. So I ordered a new igniter, this one was potted into a small cylinder with three leads sticking out. After wiring it in (took a while studying the circuit to figure it out), the fixture has now been re-installed and is probably good for another ten years. Cheap fix ($15) compared to over $100 to replace the fixture. Enough with this Drump shit. My god that Asshole is such an embarrassment. Can't understand why people like him, open mouth, insert foot!
I clicked on the video for the discussion of mercury vapor ballasts, which was well done. The Trump remix was an unexpected bonus. I wish I could 'like' this video twice!
Always love your videos. Need more old roundies! This one I don't know. As you know high frequency spikes don't pass well truth transformers. I'm thinking you need to take another sample. I'm having all my customers go LED, but that is a gamble too. I've spent about a grand and rejected about 30% not good. I would love to come see you sometime We are just nut jobs for old school electronics. Love you dude, Doogie
Hey whats up! I know next to nothing about fixing or building thing.sad but true, but i gotta say I've always enjoyed your videos, something about them. Soothing to watch . Anyhows just wanted to say thank you for all the great videos.have a good one!
Unfucking believable. Outstanding. RUclips, the modern cultural artistic outlet, available to almost anyone, with the power of the studio now in a handheld device. Its a mind boggling development. In all my years viewing this site, this is my favourite maker.
I didn't expect that the waveform across the lamp would resemble a square wave. I guess this means that the lamp is illuminated during most of the AC cycle, which is a good thing. P.S.: I love China, too. ;-)
It would have been interesting to see a current waveform on the primary side (though I'm sure your power line looks nothing like a proper sine wave so maybe a voltage waveform from there also) ) in addition the voltage waveform on the lamp side on dual channels / traces. (I suppose this one of those times that a 4-channel scope would be sweet....) Also... Nice little remix... :) lol
I've always had a thing for mercury vapor lights, not that I really like the color. They are powerful, effective and the bulbs look cool. If they are made unavailable, big box stores and the industrial sector will never be the same in a way but I will NOT miss the headaches. Perhaps it's time to pick up a few proper ballasted ones while they are still available if only just to keep them as a working display piece. I only have a crappy self ballasted one, the evil thing throws out tons of UV. Guess it would be neat to see that on a scope (since it's got no transformer). || Strangely attractive yet toxic. And I'm guessing The China likes The Donald...

Shango, this is a great video!! Man do more experiment videos!!! Awesome man! Thanks!!!
Obviously you don't know me. Obviously you should be less obvious that you are a flaming liberal.

Was a good video till I saw the ending.
Now it's a great video.
Great analyses video. Thanks for posting. LOL at the end China clip.
Great experiment

Great video. Very cool editing.
I didn't even found a 100W Lightbuld anywhere anymore.
Could you tell us the differance between a Mercury Vapor and a Low Sodium bulb and how they work.

This video is a classic with the Trump samples at the end, lol
Excellent video!
Can you take one of these ballasts and make it a transformer preferably a step up? I got 20 or so 500w ballasts from MH lights
VERY cool video!

Also... Nice little remix... :) lol
drussell in Australia they made a 4 beam / trace scope for looking at 3 phase
Holy shit! This is awsome!
thank you for this video!
LOL at end clip
dont put ignitors on mercury lamps

TRUMP 2016
+Steven King just think what editing of sound bites can be done to Obama.
Hitlery flip flops without editing
Shove one of these bulbs up his treasonous ass.

You lost me after you said experiment.
