I have a 8 week old Pyrenees and she sits and comes when called. She is a purebred and we have had her for 2 weeks this coming Saturday! Very smart breed
@Fyrick24 Hi there! Thank you! He's only 3 months so he will be hyper for a while. Puppyhood can be challenging but wow, how it's missed after they get older! Love these challenging times! And find an amazing trainer to help! For biting, try the thumb press firmly in the middle of the tongue each time he bites. Be consistent and he will stop!!
I'm in Oklahoma City!! I have 2 pyrs. Brother and sister and they are ridiculously stubborn. Great guard dogs but as soon as you bring out a leash, they give you that "hell no" look. But once their on it. They chill out. Their both a year old
Mine is a little over a year old and I would love to have him just come back when I call! I would love to let him roam free off Leash and have his freedom, if only he would come back when I call and not lead me on a 3 hr chase around the neighborhood... Sunburn as heck!
So what you just did is illegal. Only service dogs are allowed at target, no doubt you saw the big sign at the door and chose to ignore it. As a dog trainer you should be better educated about this.
My GP is almost 6 months, we got her when she was 6 weeks and she already knows how to “sit” and almost got “shake” down. She’s so dang stubborn but she got those down pretty fast so I know it just takes persistence but my goodness it’s a lot of work lol Sometimes she’ll grab my shoe to chew on, I’ll tell her no and she just goes right back to doing it lmao.
Haha! They are very stubborn!! I bet she is beautiful and smart! Yes, persistence and consistency! If you ask her to do something (give her command), always see it through no mater what! If you give her a command and she refuses, don't walk away (she wins and will remember)...make sure she does it! We use/teach the word "off" for any unwanted or unnecessary behavior. You could choose your own word but stay consistent with which one you choose for the unwanted behavior. Good luck!! She sounds amazing!
Idk why people are so mad about having the dog in the store. The purpose of training your dog is so that they can come out in public with you. It's not like a service dog is somehow cleaner. So idk what y'all are saying about health code violations
Thats amazing for a Pyr. My boy doesn't ever walk off leash unless I can control the situation; that is great. What are your teaching methods, you don't mention how you get them to learn those things?
What. Are. You. Doing. He is not a Service dog, he shouldn’t be in a non pet store! This is ridiculous and irresponsible. Why do you guys feel the need to do this?
Hello, when my great Pyrenees Henry sees another dog while on our walk it's like he forgets everything and only focuses on the other dog he wants to run towards the other dog you can imagine how ridiculous I look trying to tame my big great Pyrenees. Any suggestions?
Aww yes, that's not unusual. That's one of the biggest issues we hear about is how their dog is so distracted by other dogs and the pulling on leash. Where do you live? Are you able to do lessons or a board and train?
My Pyr is 1yr and has started getting very nervous around people in public and will bark and back away when people try to pet him I’ve tried socializing him with treats as a reward but with him being so nervous he doesn’t even give mind to the treats what’s the best way to socialize a nervous pyr? Thanks😁
The stores you walked petey in, they allow regular dogs to walk in? I have an 11 month old GP and would love to teach him to heel and all that good stuff! It’s so strange he is so so willing to learn but the breed is definitely the opposite.
No, they do not. This is dangerous and disrespectful. People who have service dogs in non dog friendly places, have them for a reason. Like mine, helping me freaking walk! How sad that you are spreading misinformation like that. This is the same sentiment that the lady who had her dog in costco that tried to attack my SD, was thinking. Absolutely sad, embarrassing, and absolutely not true. No animal is allowed in a non pet friendly establishment. It will say on the door. Please don’t take your pet in public grocery stores, it really is ridiculous.
They let you in because they are so afraid to call you out, because they’ve been sued, so they are fearful to uphold the freaking LAW. They probably just figure he is a SD and just watch you walk on in. That’s pitiful on their part, but also yours.
I need George my GP to do just that. I don’t have the skills to teach him all that. He’s a little over a year and a half now. Where near Surfside, South Carolina can I get boarding and training like that? Would love to walk George on beach leash-free. Wow George would run around bowling people over if I let him off leash. He’s sweet but massive, strong and stubborn.

The 14 day B&T comes with a lot including daily updates from trainer with photos/videos, daily training adventures with distraction proofing, house manners, lifetime guarantee/support on the commands taught in the B&T, option for a free payment plan AND a turnover! Is this dog training to be a service dog? I can’t understand why else you would purposely bring an off leash dog into a not pet-friendly store (target). If the dog is not task trained to aid an individual with a disability then he should not be in a store where pets are not allowed per corporate policy. It puts actual working teams at risk.
