For those wondering about the remaining 3 captures: 1. Cap Kingdom Pylon: Probably impossible. It has been proven via modding that the pylon is NOT necessary to reach cascade, there's a loadzone super far off in the distance. HOWEVER there's no known way to reach it, and, perhaps more importantly, the odyssey does not spawn in cascade unless you physically move while in the cap pylon. This results in a softlock. In order to skip cap kingdom pylon you would have to somehow find a way to trick the game into updating the state without using the cap pylon, and there's no known method that would accomplish this. 2. Ruined Kingdom Pylon: Unlikely. The pylon in this kingdom isn't necessary to progress game logic, so it's the most likely option at the moment, but it's still probably not going to happen any time soon. You would need infinite distance/height to perform this. But, I hear you asking in your head, doesn't a crc achieve this? Well, yes, but only for cappy. So it would only be useful if you could hit a checkpoint. There is no checkpoint in ruined. Furthermore, there's so little available to work with in ruined that there is virtually no chance of an inf height/distance trick. 3. Bowser: Very unlikely. It has been proven via modding that you cannot trigger the ending pylon without bowser. This pylon is not a capture, it is a bowser-specific object that triggers the end of the game. While this hasn't been as extensively tested as the cap pylon, it's pretty safe to assume this is impossible to skip. In order to skip this you would need to be forcefully spawned as bowser, without directly capturing it, or you would need to do some sort of frame perfect fake capture to get in the pylon similar to the metro taxi loadzone, but we don't know if this is possible. Purely speculation. Of course, all of these could also be skipped if a tech was found that could let you capture something without it counting as a capture, but that isn't very fun is it :) EDIT: UPDATE! So, while it's true that BOWSER is required for the PYLON it turns out you actually don't need the pylon at all to trigger credits. There is a loadzone super far out in the distance (and behind an invisible wall, because Nintendo likes to make things difficult), and the pylon is only used to bring you there! So theoretically if you could find a way to get mario through the escape sequence, gain a ridiculous amount of distance, and pass an invisible wall, you could beat the game without a bowser capture. This isn't likely to happen, but it's definitely significantly more possible than previously thought. It's probably about as unlikely as ruined pylon, now.
What if you were to use CRC to capture Bowser while standing on the pylon? since capturing bowser is a cutscene that could possibly skip the cutscene and thus the capture at the same time. Then again, I don't know if it's even possible to get a CRC to capture bowser from up that high

I mean, would anyone be insane enough to try to run this consistently? you need like 6 crazy 3 mins long setup and a 0.3 sec window to capture just the checkpoints. Even just his new pokio skip is crazy enough. This is as unsafe as it gets for a category.

I haven't looked into Mario Odyssey speedrunning since early 2018, and while the CRC glitch discovery is insane, what Smallant is doing at 18:53 is legitimately jaw-dropping for me.
Mods removing the category: 1. Too arbitrary 2. Too difficult 3. Too few active runners Why all of those reasons are stupid: 1. Thats literally why category extensions exist 2. SM64 has 0 star, 1 star, 16 star, 70 star, and 120 star categories. 70, 120, and 0 all make sense, but why include 16 star and 1 star? That’s because 0 star has an incredible difficulty barrier. This way, runners can start with the easier categories before moving on to the harder ones. This can easily be done the same way for Min Caps; for example, 12 captures, 9 captures, and 3 captures. Also, the most obvious point to make is that difficulty should never determine whether or not a run should have a leaderboard. That really just doesn’t make any sense. At all. 3. That’s.. how category extensions always are. None of the categories have many active runners. If that’s a reason for removing Min Caps, then you might as well remove every single other category. Not to mention that the removal is extremely disrespectful to not only the runners, but also to the people that worked so hard to find new tricks to make these runs possible, especially since none of the aforementioned people were consulted by the mods before the removal. And all this stuff about biased polls and refusing to show the results of those polls just puts a disgusting taste in my mouth. I really hope SMO category extensions gets a staff change soon, because the current mods are acting very immature and childish in regards to the situation. idk just felt like giving my two cents because I love watching these runs

The biggest thing, is that in one of the versions of the game, version 1.2 (which carries on to 1.3), Nintendo tried to patch the glitch that causes these clips, out of the game. It wasn't successful, but as a result the clip is hard in those versions. However, on older versions 1.0/1.1, this clip is far easier, up for debate as the easiest clip spot for said glitch. For minimum captures, you have to run on 1.0/1.1 to be able to do nut jump, whereas for most normal speedruns you want to use version 1.3 for the faster loading times, which explains why Smallant is using different versions of the game which then changes the difficulty of the clip.
for so many older game speedruns like mario 64 and such, its hard to appreciate all the little skips that have been done. but seeing all the ways minimum captures has decreased really puts into perspective the amount of strats, discoveries and skips found for each run

Greyson Williams that’s taken out of context. He said pokiNo skip was harder than the tricks he had been doing to that point. Wet nut is after pokiNo so it could very well be the harder skip. However pokiNo could still be harder given his opinion on the matter wasn’t stated.
Relyks this is ant’s opinion. The objectively hardest one, or the one that’s hardest to most people, is probably the RCRs. Pokino and Broodon’t are the easiest to practice, and wet nut is at least easily tried again but the RCRs have several minute setups. They also require setups that are hard to understand, while you can more easily understand the others. When you understand why a skip works, that can sometimes help. And if we’re talking ant, his first nut jump took around two hours, while morning metro alone the first time took a lot longer for him to get.
"Your Arms are so long" That is a bad thing for arm wressling because the strength doesnt come from the hand bat from the shoulder, that means the person with the shorter arm has the longer lever (the other persons arm).

How do people find this, does some random person think, “oh i might as well jump around in this random spot for 3.13 or something seconds exactly and perform a bunch of complicated manoeuvres”.
It usually begins with a complete accident/coincidence. People begin to speculate how or why something happened and expand on that concept until it reaches this level. OR On a very rare occasion, someone just happens to input something exactly as they need to to do the glitch and TASers dissect it.
Well with crcs, syrkl found a way to teleport cappy back in 2018 using the same method. He came back to it this year and tested some stuff, then people started doing more testing from there.

At 4:29,someone in the chat said that in SMW,there is a way to warp right to the credits from the first level by code execution,which means killing and jumping on the right enemies. This also happens in SMB3. For all we know,they're right.
The reason I play Mario Odyssey is because I watch Small Ant. His content is so cool and it makes me want do the same thing so I gave Mario Odyssey a try and I loved it. Small Ant is by far my favorite RUclips and I literally can’t stop watching him.
If there's on thing I will never stop love watching, it's min captures. It's so cool to see such difficult techniques being used and mastered over time and the speed increasing. I just remember the first time the nut skip (not sure if that's the actual name or not) in bowser's kingdom was discovered, it seemed so difficult. And now Ant just showed that he could do it back to back, or in general nail it frequently.
Honestly Ant might just make the video himself. He did the one on any% and it was awesome, and here's the category where he's objectively the expert. (Not necessarily on any one skip, but on the category as a whole.)

Guillaume Buchheit Actually you can’t even skip first capture with infinite distance, the Odyssey won’t spawn in Cascade Kingdom unless you move while capturing the pylon in Cap Kingdom. You would have to change that variable (or something, I’m no programmer) without incrementing the capture count or capturing the pylon, which seems like... a challenge.
I think it can only be reduced to 1 capture, by discovering an infinite height glitch. Bowser can be skipped by using the infinite height glitch on top of the pylon.
2 maybe capture skips: CRC to Ruined Kingdom arena and maybe Cappy triggers the fight, maybe in Cap Kingdom CRC to see if Cappy and hit the loading zone for Cascade Kingdom

Alex Bartholoma the difference is that the nut jump has a little more time like 0.06 but you have to do it over 20 times in a row here making it ore difficult

I believe if an infinite height glitch is found for Ruined it could also be used to skip the Cap pylon by triggering the loading zone. Just a theory, though.
ClashGaming there is a loading zone that you can theoretically access without the pylon, but that’s the main problem. How would you get enough height and speed to get to the loading zone without the pylon?

Greyson Williams that’s taken out of context. He said pokiNo skip was harder than the tricks he had been doing to that point. Wet nut is after pokiNo so it could very well be the harder skip. However pokiNo could still be harder given his opinion on the matter wasn’t stated.
Relyks this is ant’s opinion. The objectively hardest one, or the one that’s hardest to most people, is probably the RCRs. Pokino and Broodon’t are the easiest to practice, and wet nut is at least easily tried again but the RCRs have several minute setups.
They also require setups that are hard to understand, while you can more easily understand the others. When you understand why a skip works, that can sometimes help.
And if we’re talking ant, his first nut jump took around two hours, while morning metro alone the first time took a lot longer for him to get.

That is a bad thing for arm wressling because the strength doesnt come from the hand bat from the shoulder, that means the person with the shorter arm has the longer lever (the other persons arm).
Next thing you know there's going to be a way to skip the Bowser Capture with something called a "Kingdom skip"
Technically you can sort of sequence break kingdoms, but that wouldn't help because the ending cutscene is in moon kingdom regardless.

How do people find this, does some random person think, “oh i might as well jump around in this random spot for 3.13 or something seconds exactly and perform a bunch of complicated manoeuvres”.
It usually begins with a complete accident/coincidence. People begin to speculate how or why something happened and expand on that concept until it reaches this level.
OR
On a very rare occasion, someone just happens to input something exactly as they need to to do the glitch and TASers dissect it.
Another way it happens is people will try glitches from one game, on another game.
Obviously that works best with specific games
They might have already understood how to have Cappy in his "extended reach" and just had to work out how at that point

Well with crcs, syrkl found a way to teleport cappy back in 2018 using the same method. He came back to it this year and tested some stuff, then people started doing more testing from there.

If there's on thing I will never stop love watching, it's min captures. It's so cool to see such difficult techniques being used and mastered over time and the speed increasing. I just remember the first time the nut skip (not sure if that's the actual name or not) in bowser's kingdom was discovered, it seemed so difficult. And now Ant just showed that he could do it back to back, or in general nail it frequently.

@@jimbo2091 to skip first capture you need infinite distance glitch, to skip second capture you need infinite height glitch and to skip third capture you have 2 choices : either spawn a bowser or get through invisible wall with infinite height glitch

Actually you can’t even skip first capture with infinite distance, the Odyssey won’t spawn in Cascade Kingdom unless you move while capturing the pylon in Cap Kingdom. You would have to change that variable (or something, I’m no programmer) without incrementing the capture count or capturing the pylon, which seems like... a challenge.
I think it can only be reduced to 1 capture, by discovering an infinite height glitch.
Bowser can be skipped by using the infinite height glitch on top of the pylon.

I believe if an infinite height glitch is found for Ruined it could also be used to skip the Cap pylon by triggering the loading zone. Just a theory, though.
