Thank you John you’ve served so many generations of Yankees fans and you were truly legendary. It was truly great to see Kay talk about you during the game and that call knowing that you were able to hang it up by your own will.
I was 16 1/2 years old listening to the game on a small radio with aluminum foil on the end of the antenna. Yankees down by one run, bottom of the ninth. Ricky Henderson walked, and Don Mattingly hit a walk-off home run. First time I heard John Sterling's home run call. I have never stopped listening since, until now.
Thank you, John, for an illustrious career. I hope you have a peaceful retirement. So many of us will miss you dearly.
I grew up a Red Sox ,but loved the Mantle, Maris, Ford, Blanchard, Tresh teams. Etc.Etc. I did nothing but listen to Mr. Sterling when I was consistently travelling through Vermont and Maine. Listening to John made my trips thru the Green Mountains , during the last 12 years, or along the Coast, memorable. Win or lose, I loved listening , on a Sat. or Sunday, to John . It was July or August. , It was summer, it was green, it was sunny and warm, It was Vermont, Never a dull moment. I was listening to John Sterling, from Brattleboro to Stowe. Thank you my friend. I will miss your great calls. Gallagher.
Absolute Legend
I have great memories of listening to many great Yankee announcers over the years. John is a colorful announcer that's for sure and deserves to enjoy his retirement. I remember back in the 1980's on many summer nights listening to Phil Rizzuto and Bill White on a transistor radio. I can even remember nights when a thunderstorm would be in the area and every now and then hearing the static from the lightning in the radio.
😔😔😔😔😔😔😔😔😭😭😭😭😭😭 Thank you For Everything John Sterling 😢
As a Dodgers fan I have absolutely nothing but tremendous amount of respect I have for John Sterling. I always love hearing & saying “It is high it is far it is gone” regardless of who hits the HR.
As a Red Sox fan, I dreaded John's home run calls. Nothing personal. Congrats on 36 hall of fame years.
Thank you for the class.
John Sterling made the entertainment experience of professional sports even greater with his contributions. Whether it was the Yankees win and Islander Goal mantras, it was always a memorable experience. I hope he has many more years of health and happiness!
He does always out smart us. 😂😂😂😂
Mr. John Sterling thank you brother !
John was fantastic and will be missed greatly. His calls were very entertaining, with a voice that was a joy to listen to. Wishing him a happy retirement

John Sterling's "Yankee's Win" was my dad's ringtone. I got really emotional when John announced his retirement. My dad passed away in 2021 and I miss him so much.
"It is high, it is far, it is gone!!!"
Thanks John
Jon Miller Yankees Radio
It is caught at the wall . This guy was horrible . You are all delusional
Someone should make an online catalogue of John's homerun calls. Click on the player's name and hear the homerun call.
I just so happen to be going to the game this Saturday. Not only will I attempt to get my judge bobble head but I get to say a farewell to my
Boy John sterling! Miss you already

GOD BLESS THE KING. IN THE GREAT WORDS OF BOB HOPE THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES.
I love your "back to back" and "belly to belly" Mr. John Sterling. Surely, you will be missed, the voice of the Yankees. Stay safe, healthy and happy on your retirement. Congratulations on a wonderful, meaningful and sterling career.
Listening to Suzyn recall working with John brought a tear to my eye… I’ll miss listening to you Mr. Sterling! 🫡 ⚾️
He also called the Rick Camp game, Atl-NYM, that lasted 96 Innings and three days.
😊😅😂🤠😆
Give him a plaque in monument park
My dad would quote him every single time the Yankees won 😢
Damn this sucks. John sterling was awesome. Wish him all the luck in life.
"We'll talk forever" DUDE THE FEELS!
Thank you John & Michael for all the times of the Yankees beating my Orioles and us beating you. We all will miss your voices together, but we will miss John more. I wonder if this means Michael will take over?
Thank you Mr. Sterling for your service and dedication to the Yankees for the years you served enjoy your well deserved retirement 🎉
Happy for John he left on his own terms he IS the Yankees
📻 🧙♂️ Lets Go Yankees
I've been listening to John for 35 Years. ⚾
I'm 63......I remember the summer of '73....and his sports talk show on WMCA where he would talk down to the dolts with their incessant requests to know when Ron Blomberg or Elliot Maddox would be back from injury or the progress in the construction of the new Yankee Stadium to the excitement of the trade that brought Micky Rivers and Ed Figueroa to the Yankees to his amazing play by play of the New York Islanders, " Hart...to Potvin, Denny back to Hart....Hart has a shot....GOAL!!, ISLANDER GOAL!!, ISLANDER GOAL!!, ISLANDER GOAL!"
His play by play of the ABA Nets when Dr. J. led them to a championship to his eventual call of 5 championships for Yankees. That's pretty darned good. Finally, Sterling finally tells himself as his used to tell his callers when he had enough...."give it a rest!" Well deserved John. You were not only the soundtrack of the Yankees. You were the sports soundtrack of my youth!
The story of John Sterling's fellow Yankee announcer Ricky Ricardo rescuing him from a flooded roadway after a game, is a legendary story.
I am in ouning!yu w missed john. Enjoy
I’m emotional seeing this
Two Yankee legend announcers: Bob Sheppard and John Sterling
My dad always tells me how good of an announcer he was for the islanders during their dynasty
John----YOU WILL BE MISSED. I am very sorry you are leaving but understand that retirement is the best choice. YOU CANNOT BE REPLACED IN MY VIEW.
Brendan Burke replaced John Sterling
SURE WILL MISS JOHN A GOLDEN VOICE WAS HE GOD BLESS 1:58 1:58
Things won't be same. Happy retirement Mr. Sterling!
Even Mel Allen smiles....
John. The Best. Pete sr. ❤
Aaron Boone hit it all on the head. Gonna miss John
Lot of retirements this year. In Boston, Mike Gorman (longtime announcer for the Celtics, 38 years) is retiring too.
If I am correct , John was that in ‘96 for Joe Torre & Derek Jeters fist full years in pinstripes
Enjoy your retirement, Mr. Sterling….you are a LEGEND! 👍🏾
He will be missed
The end of the 2009 World Series: "Ball game over! World Series over! Yankees win! Theeee Yankees win. And for the 27th time in their glorious history, the New York Yankees are world champs!"
John's retirement is well earned. Best wishes.
He entertained US for 35 years. Sterling was Sterling @
John sterling was like the vin Scully of the yankees.
我會想念你的❤
Made the radio fun. Enjoy your retirement.
John Sterling isn’t going anywhere. My Yankeeography DVD collection will have him forever. I still hope he can do updates on certain retired Yankees who need a finished version. Jeter, Arod, Posada, Pettitte, etc.
💯
I think he's done.
Ty JOHN…
Strange to retire so abruptly when Sterling's health is okay. One report said he simply didn't want to do it anymore. Clearly he stayed too long. Now if only Waldman would follow Sterling out the door.
Sterling you are ; Sterling
Will Suzyn wear 'the vest' on Saturday?
Damn first Verne Lundquist and now John Sterling?!
Yes, both are well into their 80s. But Lundquist could still announce, and knew when to go. Sterling burned out.

I think its a health scare. No one retired one month into the season like that.
No one?
Non si può!!!
Rest in peace!
no alive pa
Decade after decade of agony is finally over.
Hopefully he takes Suzyn with him
Who are you?
Not gonna be a hypocrite like everyone else will. hooray! Good bye 👋🏻 your calls were over the top and he’s not even a Yankees fan lol it was his job! Next is suzyn! Ma and pa yank gotta GO
agree. I couldn't stand his embarrassing self-promoting home run calls.
@@TankHank-kd2iq yeah it is high it is far it is ….down the right field line 314 ft . Which isn’t high nor far
