The V6 Sonata 2006-2010 is a wolf in sheeps clothing when it pertains to performance (0 to 60mph at 6.6 sec and 1/4 mile at 15.1), top speed at 144 mph. I love my 2006 V6 GLS Hyundai Sonata. I have owned it since 2006. I wouldn't trade it for anything, except a new Hyundai. 17 years and I still love it 😀
I feel like it was best post-facelift on this generation. They ironed out all the problems of the 2006-2008 with an update in 2009. They fixed the uncomfortable front seats, updated the exterior styling, changed the dated and cheap-looking center stack. I owned both a 2006 and 2009 and I agree with you. I own a 2008 Limited with the 3.3 V6, 203k, and it runs perfect. Almost bought a 2008 GLS 4 cylinder, but I went with a 2013 Ford Focus instead. Should have gone with the Sonata, since we already own one and knowing how reliable they are.
I like the generation before this one best (1999-2005) with the more Round design. I feel that many car companies started getting more ovaly in the late 90's to the early 2000's because of that 1996 ford Taurus started the ovaly trend in cars today, but a little less extreme. Chevy Chevy's Malibu for an example looked more curvy in the early 2000's, so as sonata, Toyota Prius (first generation), Nissan with it's Sentra and Altima. But at this time in the middle of 2000-2010 cars became more boxy. In '04 the Toyota Prius got a boxier look, so as the 2005 Malibu, the 2006 sonata, then the 2007 Sentra became boxy as well. Cars do follow a similar trend. I like the ones between 1980 and the early 2000's.
I own an 06 Sonata...V6 147,000 miles only real repair was replacing the starter..Engine is still quiet...trans shifts smooth and A/C is still cold...I also own a 04 Hyundai Tiburon w/2.7 liter V6...102,000 miles same story only the paint is peeling and I changed the timing belt, water pump and radiator..Great cars!
I owned a 2006.5 Kia Optima, which is essentially the same car as the 2006 Sonata. I loved that car. It was extremely refined. You couldn't hear or feel the 4cyl engine idling with the windows down. There was absolutely no engine vibration revving the engine. The interior was solidly built and very comfortable. Dependability was ok. Not great. Not bad. If I could turn back the hands of time I would buy one again brand-new. I liked it that much.

@Shintsu2 You should check out the new 2011 Kia Optima coming out soon! It's awesome looking inside and out. I think Kia will bring a more sporty/aggressive look vs Hyundai providing a look to suit most buyers.
This was the first generation of the Sonata that actually had the chance to outlive its payments before major mechanical issues hit. Although it was a vast improvement over previous generations of the Sonata which doesn't say very much but it and it's twin cousin the Kia Optima held up pretty well but but the old saying you get what you pay for really came into play. This generation Sonata has all but disappeared from the US roadways unlike it's two biggest competitors the Camry in the Accord. Although the Camry and the Accord cost about $2,000 more each then the Sonata or the Optima you still see them all over the place. I liked this Sonata actually. I thought the exterior was handsomely styled however the 2009 facelifted version had a much better interior and dash design. The AC vents were mounted too low in the dash and the cold air seem to warm too quickly on hot days at least here in Miami.
Not sure where you live but here in Los Angeles,California there are alot of 2006 Hyundai Sonata's on the road...btw i own one as well 136,000 miles only changed oil, tires, brakes and battery.
this is a false claim, Hyundai has some of the highest ratings in reliability in the market and the sonata and santa fe are both made in the USA. My 06 sonata now 6 years old has only required fluid changes and 1 headlight.
I have a 2009 Sonata, anyway to use mine there's a switch on the back of the steering wheel, on the right. You'll pull it toward you and cruise control light lights up on the dash, then the 3 buttons on the right of the steering wheel use to set the cruise. middle button cancels cruise, top one slows cruise down 1 or 2mph, and bottom one speeds up cruise by 1 or 2mph. I may have the top and bottom buttons mixed up but I'm certain with everything else
@pattycarljackson Where Kia and Hyundai have similar models, they are structurally, electrically, and mechanically the same cars, like the Sonata and Optima. There is little difference other than styling. Dodge is the sporty/performance division of Chrysler Corp. Chrysler is the luxury division. At least that's how it used to be. Plymouth was the entry-level, family oriented division.
@palebeachbum its more because kia is the cheap version of hyundai just like dodge is the cheap version of chrysler. ive asked the same question as you
This was one of the best generations of the Hyundai sonata excluding the awkwud and drab dashboard with the air conditioning vents that blue at your arm pits Looking back it was nowhere near on the quality level as the Toyota Camry. The proof of that is that here in Miami I remember seeing tons of these But I honestly can't remember seeing one in months. Even the 2011 - 2015 Gen. Sonatas are few and far between. The original Hyundai's would break down on the way home from the dealership. My mom bought a brand new Hyundai built mitsubishi in the late 1980s and the Brand new car started overheating after only 2 weeks Until finally blowing a head gasket at only 9 months old. Hyundai fixed it at my mom traded it for new Toyota Camry which is the only Kind of car she's bought since. Hyundai's have dramatically improved but they still don't hold up like a Toyota.
@jkarlos009 umm dude it was supposed to look like the accord just saying and honda accord looks like shit and sorry i know alot of people who had the 06 accord and got rid of it for an 06 sonata because they had to many problems
@blueburaq and yeah it is hyundai quality is better then toyota ford and alot of others just like the simplest thing such as paint 2011 sonata paint job is better then a mercedes c'mon now its paint get it right
@palebeachbum Because people somewhat associate more quality out of Hyundai than Kia. In my area, the local Kia dealer has the most obnoxious and persistent ads and always seem so desperate for sales. I'm not a fan of Korean cars, but I'd at least consider a Hyundai - but never a Kia. I know they're the same companies, but Kia has no rep and looks so much cheaper.

My 2006 Sonata failed to start once. The battery was dead. 12 yo car
get Goodyear Eagle GT tires, did so here in New england and it Improves alot
The golden days of hyundai, when they used to make reliable cars
Agreed, this was peak Hyundai. That golden era ended with the 2010 Tuscan, it was downhill from there.
2008 Sonata was rated the most reliable by Consumer Reports than any other model year.
how to use the cruise control on this car
I have a 2009 Sonata, anyway to use mine there's a switch on the back of the steering wheel, on the right. You'll pull it toward you and cruise control light lights up on the dash, then the 3 buttons on the right of the steering wheel use to set the cruise. middle button cancels cruise, top one slows cruise down 1 or 2mph, and bottom one speeds up cruise by 1 or 2mph. I may have the top and bottom buttons mixed up but I'm certain with everything else
This or a 2000 accord?
sonata
It really did look like accord
@pattycarljackson Where Kia and Hyundai have similar models, they are structurally, electrically, and mechanically the same cars, like the Sonata and Optima. There is little difference other than styling. Dodge is the sporty/performance division of Chrysler Corp. Chrysler is the luxury division. At least that's how it used to be. Plymouth was the entry-level, family oriented division.
@palebeachbum its more because kia is the cheap version of hyundai just like dodge is the cheap version of chrysler. ive asked the same question as you
güzel araba - nice car
That's low torgue 😱
الي سوناتا زيها جديده 6سندر 😍😍😢
@pattycarljackson have you ever drivin one night and day difference
i will admit i have drivin this model sonata
Awkward not awkud.
Blew
That looks like Parveen’s wife car.
What is the song name coming from radio at 3:47-49????!!! it's old song, i know.
earth wind and fire september
Diesel ones are very reliable in Europe
Near Audi😂
Sonata usa! & Korean!
no sorry hyundai is just reliable have you seen the rating yeah go check and then come back and make your statement.
all those bmw 325 owners..I am not sorry :)
Respond to this video... you should have paid extra for sonata i got and 06 over a hundred thousand miles went to canada california florida and not a dam thing is wrong with this car.
patrick jackson how is the sonata now?
