--------------------------------------------------
Working with mixed media using a variety of different paints. I work rapidly but build up the paintings in layers to make sketches that can be referenced in studio paintings.
Lewis Noble has lived and worked in Derbyshire since 1996. His focus lies in the physical and emotional impact of the landscape on the senses and the effect this experience has on us.
His paintings are not snapshots or photographic frozen moments but through repeated layering and eroding of the painted surface, they contain all of the time it takes to make them.
The result is a body of work that speaks to the heart of what it means to be part of the environment.

What a treat to see the English countryside, beautiful locations, then getting to watch you freely work, reminding me how important spontaneity in art is. I know how but watching you makes me want to get outside and do it more. Your process is interesting, your descriptions make total sense to me as an artist. As a collage artist I love that you go back to the studio to tear and rebuild a composition based on what you see and sketch. Great! thank you!
Thanks!
Always enjoy these
Thanks!
Thank you!
It’s so interesting to hear you describing your process to me because as a photographer I totally relate to every aspect of it. A photo walk to me is a way to start seeing more, finding what interests me and taking snapshots of it. The editing process is a completely unrelated and different experience during which I see if I can get from those snapshots the feelings that I have gathered into a finished picture. The way I post process changes based on the mood of both the walk and the editing moments.
Also interesting that as I'm also very into photography, I keep thinking I need to apply my usual creative process more in my photography. (@cyclopsrock on instagram) So I'm trying to be less literal in my photo work.
It's hard as I'm new to it but I think it's great to have new and unfamiliar things to work on because it makes you think harder! Cheers!
@@LewisNobleArtist I love many types of photography but over the years I have discovered that by photographing I have trained my eyes to find beauty in everything. In case you are interested, take a look at this old project of mine www.francescogallarotti.com/stories/nothing/
Interesting Lewis, I am enjoying your ideas and demonstrations
Thanks
Beautiful countryside, your dog by your side, and painting. I really thank you for that experience.
Lewis, I thoroughly enjoy your videos. I enjoy your work, your thinking process getting ready to paint, and then the process of actually painting. Add to that your English countryside. Very, very nice. Thank you.
Love your work. I am noticing the dappled light falling onto your painting through the tree from above. Cool.
Thanks! A nice shady spot.
I really enjoy watching you work!! My daughter is a big fan of your artwork too!!
Thanks!
Facinating watching you sketching the landscape by hark mak8ng what's in front of you first. I'm always curious how history shapes our local landscapes too. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for featuring Bruce !
He’s the star of the show!
Lewis, excellent presentation about letting go and seeing what the painting sketch wants to be. One question - what kind of color pencils do you use? I know you use black but there is also an orange and green. Just interested.
Thanks. They're watercolour pencils.
"Treat the painting as a way of looking."... Brilliant!
Pleased you enjoyed it!
👌💕
Enjoyed the painting as always - the elements you captured, the colours and textures all with a nice balance. One question - what is size of the paper you used for this one?
It's roughly A3 but cut off a roll of Fabriano 200GSM Thanks.
Really enjoy it. What is the name of the green color and dark one. Thnkxx
You know, Lewis, all the time I have been watching these videos of your painting experiences, I have said to myself that you need a lab!
Bruce is a good boy!
Black Labs Matter....I've got my good boy too!
Windscreen please, for a more enjoyable viewer experience...
I had one on, it was just really windy!
